Chapter 690: Chapter 596: The Crazy Plan

"Mentioning the Grim Reaper, a trace of expression finally crossed Yeg’s otherwise placid face."

"The Elegy Poetry Society has been established for many years, but not many are aware of it, so I suppose you heard from the God of Alchemy. However, you should also understand that the reason I haven’t made it public is that I don’t want you all to know,"

Yeg spoke with the same calm tone. This skeleton, who had lived for so many years, had likely had most of his emotions ground down by the passage of time.

Amberser also had great respect for the Guild Leader. Staying an undead creature for so long and still maintaining cognitive abilities was even harder than deification.

"Guild Leader, I’m very curious, why wouldn’t you directly tell everyone about such a major matter? The members of the Elegy Poetry Society are indeed all special talents, but if some know and others don’t, this is hardly fair."

In Amberser’s view, everyone wanted the Deity Position of the Grim Reaper. If there was a competition for promotion, then it should be conducted with fairness, justice, and openness.

If some knew in advance and performed accordingly, then the others were already halfway to losing.

However, Yeg simply smiled and said, "If you don’t know where the finish line is, there’s no possibility of running halfway in advance."

"But if they know it’s a running race, they can train their legs in advance."

"What if they don’t even know what the competition is about?"

Yeg’s words made Amberser furrow his brows. What was this old man arguing about? Who doesn’t know what being the Grim Reaper entails?

But Amberser hadn’t come to argue. In any competition, arguing with the referee would only earn a red card.

"Guild Leader, let’s get back on topic. As far as I know, the Elegy Poetry Society has been around even longer than Laine’s history, but no new Grim Reaper has been chosen yet, so I assume there are some special requirements. Now that I know, I should also know the rules of the competition,"

Amberser had previously thought that the Deity Position of the Grim Reaper would never come his way.

But now the situation felt wrong. Hircine had set his sights on him, and if he could strive for the Grim Reaper’s position, he wouldn’t have to fear Hircine anymore. If the Prince of Lies dared show his face, he’d slap Him till His mouth burst!

This guy was just relying on how well he hid; in reality, each of Hircine’s enemies could defeat Him in single combat.

Amberser waited for Yeg’s answer, but the Guild Leader’s response took him by surprise: "Actually, the way to become the Grim Reaper is very simple. When the current Grim Reaper dies, any member of the Elegy Poetry Society who still exists can take over the Deity Position. It’s a simple requirement, isn’t it? You should understand now why I don’t tell anyone. This rule has nothing to do with your efforts."

Amberser would rather Yeg had refused to answer.

What kind of answer was that, what kind of rule?

Wait for the Grim Reaper to die, and then someone from the Elegy Poetry Society takes over? Are they candidates? They’re clearly just temps. Not to mention the odds of something happening to the Grim Reaper, with so many members in the Elegy Poetry Society, who would take over when the position becomes vacant?

Would they have to kill each other first...wait a minute, killing each other.

"Guild Leader, the Necromancy Codex clearly states that members are not allowed to harm each other."

As soon as Amberser finished speaking, Yeg in front of him appeared to be frozen in place, his expression abnormally twisted.

The next second, the scene before Amberser shattered like glass, then turned to dust and disappeared.

The tavern remained unchanged, as if nothing had ever happened. Yeg was still sitting calmly across from Amberser, as if nothing had occurred.

Amberser was stunned for a moment, then heard Yeg say, "It’s Hircine, you’ve been cursed by Him."

"Hircine? I haven’t even seen Him, how have I been cursed?"

Amberser was shocked. Were deities so unreasonable? He had just returned from the Lord of the Dawn and now Hircine had acted?

"Do not use mortal thinking to guess the actions of a deity. However, the curses of deities do have traces to follow. If Hircine has cursed you, it means at the very least He has seen you."

Yeg’s words awakened Amberser, and his consciousness descended into all the Magic Mirrors. Quickly he locked onto one.

In a scenic spot with clear waters and lush hills, a pale-faced elf was pinching a palm-sized Magic Mirror, fingers continuously drawing intricate runes upon it.

But the next second, the Magic Mirror detonated on its own.

The sharp shards halted in front of the pale elf, ultimately failing to harm even a single hair on his head.

The pale elf clapped his hands, brushing off the debris, then muttered to himself, "Heh, noticed it already, you’re quite sharp. Too bad, you just have too many Magic Mirrors."

Picking up another Magic Mirror, he found that it seemed to be broken, completely unable to be activated.

The pale elf frowned and said, "Tsk, seems like this will take some time. But that’s okay, time is on my side."

Taking out a book on alchemy, the pale elf began to read at a rapid pace, murmuring to himself as he read: "The more you unravel my lies, the weaker my power becomes. The weaker I become, the less the raging curse affects me, and the clearer my mind gets. The clearer my mind, the stronger my power becomes. Thus, the weaker I am, the stronger I become.

"Really haven’t seen something this interesting in a long time. A mere mortal reaching this level, well I don’t mind playing this game with you."
