Chapter 688: Chapter 595 Homebodies are not to be messed with_2

Greed had become a double-edged sword, and soon Mammon might make a mess out of the Hell Bank.

However, Amberser wasn’t particularly concerned.

He was an original counterfeiter; whether Hell was in chaos or not mattered little to him—what difference did it make if more devils died?

Soul Currency had practical uses, not merely as a symbol of credit, so no matter how Mammon collapsed the economy of the Third Level of Hell, these fake coins still held their basic value. Amberser could kick Mammon to the curb and switch partners at any time.

It was just a matter of time, and Amberser was not short on that—what truly concerned him was the issue with Zariel that the Poet had mentioned.

"Mammon is causing trouble, creating a mess—what does that have to do with the first layer of hell? Zariel didn’t do anything, did he?" Amberser asked.

The Poet explained, "You think of the Nine Layers of Hell as separate planes, but that is not true; Hell is one entity divided by Asmodeus, who distributed the Hell Authority among different devils, thus creating the current structure of the Nine Layers of Hell. In reality, Hell is a dump connected to All Realms, specifically reserved for trash.

"You too are part of the dump, originally meant to be composted, but now you’ve transformed into a worker at the dump, and you have shortened your composting time."

It took Amberser a little while to understand what "shortening the composting time" meant.

If sinners were sent to Hell to receive punishment, the troubles Mammon caused had greatly intensified the "suffering" of the devils in Hell.

Originally, reaching the status of a Devil Lord meant a relatively good life—they were all like Amberser, trash by themselves but also workers at the dump. But these employees usually slacked off, thinking every day about how to lure mortals from the Mortal Realm into damnation, adding trash to the dump instead of contemplating how to torment the sinners who had already fallen into Hell.

The result was that fresh trash kept piling up, but these low-level sinner trash became their laborers. Many sinners who fell into Hell did not suffer much before being entrusted with responsibilities and quickly becoming the Hell nobility.

What is this supposed to be?

Is Hell supposed to let all this trash wield power and force?

But there’s no helping it, devils do love pleasure; they always calculate the benefits, wanting to use each other, striving to climb higher.

This led to each level of Hell slowly becoming a retirement home for the devil nobility, not devoid of strife, but clearly lacking enough intensity, except for the Blood River Battlefield in the first layer.

But Amberser’s arrival made Mammon’s greed reach the point of madness, turning the Third Level of Hell into chaos, even forcing the long-benefited Hell Lords into internal competition.

Once this competition started, various torments followed.

One could say that although Mammon was destroying his own ruling base by doing this, it was very much in line with the demands of Hell Law.

Punish the sinners!

Aren’t the Hell Lords sinners too?!

And all this originated from Amberser; he was like the top chief in a pyramid scheme, the more miserable those below him, the more benefits fell into his hands.

Hell Law would credit these merits to Amberser.

The greater the merit, according to the rules, the more Hell Authority he held.

But because Asmodeus, the big-timer, was there, Hell’s authority had already been allocated, so Hell itself wanted to reward Amberser but found it couldn’t offer much, leading to a delay in rewards, causing Amberser to not feel anything special to this date.

"Because you fell into the first layer of hell, that was His choice. And according to Hell Law, as long as more devils suffer under your counterfeit operations, Hell Law will treat you more favorably, where does this power come from, of course, from the nearest first layer of hell.

"Zariel must be very troubled now, probably trying hard to stabilize his power; otherwise, you would have become the master of the first layer of hell already."

Amberser was startled by this explanation?

That’s outrageous, he had just been in Hell for a few months, and now he was about to become the big boss of the first layer of hell?

Others spend years and years undercover.

Although it felt abnormal, Amberser felt the Poet wouldn’t joke about such matters.

"So if I try harder now, can I make Zariel kneel and lick my toes?" Amberser asked.

"Do you even have toes right now?" the Poet retorted.

"It’s a metaphor, I used a metaphor!"

"It’s not that simple, the devils have held onto Hell’s authority for too long, who knows what methods they have to preserve their power, if it were that simple, you wouldn’t still be feeling nothing up to now. Clearly, Zariel can still grasp his power tightly without revealing anything. Exactly how to maneuver, I do not know, but you might as well test the waters. After all, you can’t die now, can you?"

These words from the Poet stirred something in Amberser, but he quickly considered another issue and asked, "I know Zariel quite well, but I know nothing about Asmodeus. If I really make a move against Zariel, Asmodeus would probably wake up immediately, the importance of the first layer of hell goes without saying."

However, the Poet shook his head and said, "You young ones always focus on the Lord of the Nine Layers of Hell, but if there’s a real problem in the first layer of hell, the first one to react will definitely not be Asmodeus."
