Chapter 660: Chapter 579: The Devil’s Daily Life_2
Gustavo Flint pondered for a moment, then said, "Show me the exam questions."
The assistant quickly presented the questions for this term’s assessment with both hands, the alchemy exam was extensive, with dozens of pages for both the beginner and intermediate exams combined.
Gustavo Flint read through them quickly, the questions required no thought for him to know the correct answers, but for most alchemists, they were extremely difficult.
"There’s nothing wrong with the questions, but this pass rate isn’t normal!"
Gustavo Flint knew the Alchemist Association inside out, how could he not know what those apprentices were capable of; it was impossible for so many qualified alchemists to suddenly emerge unless there was a mass cheating event.
"Go check those who passed the exam, don’t alarm too many people, use the Truth Serum to confirm if they bought the answers."
This was the only possibility Gustavo Flint could think of.
If it turned out there were indeed people within the association selling answers, they needed to be severely punished, otherwise, these individuals would only become bolder.
However, Gustavo Flint noticed a hesitant expression on his assistant’s face after hearing this.
"What’s wrong? Do you know who sold the exam questions?"
The assistant shook his head and said, "President, I haven’t heard of any cheating, but I’ve heard another more absurd rumor, and I don’t know if I should tell you."
"An absurd rumor? Let’s hear it."
The young assistant in front of Gustavo Flint was an alchemist whom Gustavo held in high regards, talented and meticulous in work, someone Gustavo was preparing to nurture. Such a person wouldn’t use baseless rumors to deceive him; if he said it was absurd, then Gustavo was curious to hear it.
"Sir, the rumor comes from an article in the ’Legendary Spell’ supplement, entitled ’Aladdin and the Magic Mirror’..." The assistant briefly relayed the story’s contents to Gustavo Flint.
The plot was simple, but the author wrote it very well, not only was the plot full of twists and turns, the entire story revolved around just four characters: the protagonist Aladdin, his teacher, the devil in the Magic Mirror, and the teacher’s daughter. When broken down, it was the clichéd story of a young man receiving enlightenment, defeating the villain, and then winning the beauty, but the plot was arranged so reasonably and the characters were so well-rounded.
Even the summary piqued Gustavo Flint’s interest, making him want to read the original story.
But after listening, Gustavo Flint’s expression became uneasy, asking the assistant, "You mean to say the all-knowing devil in the Magic Mirror truly exists?"
"That’s the rumor, but I’ve never verified it myself. I thought it was just a story before, but now, it might be related to this exam situation. After all, each exam’s questions are produced separately, then managed by specially assigned personnel for secrecy, with each process handled by different people. It would be very difficult to obtain the entire set of questions—what could these apprentices possibly offer in exchange for them?"
The cost of cheating was too high, and alchemy apprentices were infamously impoverished, unable to afford the price of cheating.
Gustavo Flint glanced at the sky outside; the sun had already sunk halfway, and he ordered his assistant, "I understand the situation. Bring me the supplement of the ’Legendary Spell’ and then go back to your duties. Don’t let anyone disturb me tonight."
The assistant quickly left with the materials, leaving Gustavo Flint alone in the large office.
The president of the Alchemist Association picked up the Magic Mirror on the desk and muttered to himself, "A devil from Hell who knows everything... damnable Lich, is this your doing from Hell?!"
A chill rose from his back, spreading instantly across Gustavo Flint’s body.
That Lich was supposedly dead—his soul shattered, with no possibility of resurrection, let alone a descent into Hell.
Gustavo Flint had a foreboding feeling; this cold-blooded conspiracy was all too characteristic of the Lich’s machinations. Although the specifics of his plan were unclear, every time he would trap his opponents so thoroughly, even deities couldn’t escape.
If Gustavo was right, and the Lich had not completely perished but instead had become a devil in Hell, then his own previous maneuvers may have completely enraged him.
Gustavo Flint clenched his teeth, which grated against each other, that damn persistent fiend!
Real or not, he must verify himself. If the Lich was not dead, then all previous plans had to be overturned, and he hoped it was not too late.
As soon as the sun had set completely, Gustavo Flint took out the Magic Mirror and recited the incantation from the story, "Magic Mirror, Magic Mirror, tell me."
A blaze flared up at the center of the Magic Mirror, revealing a pink-cheeked face.
The seductive Succubus appeared in the mirror, speaking with a charming voice to Gustavo Flint, "Mortal, you have summoned the all-knowing Parurier."
Parurier assessed Gustavo Flint up and down, as if she would devour him at any second.
"So, what would you like to ask?" inquired Parurier.
"Parurier?" Gustavo Flint frowned slightly, the name seemed familiar. But no matter, as long as it was not that Lich; with his character, he was unlikely to impersonate a woman.
Nevertheless, the Lich could have employed this Succubus, and Gustavo Flint needed to confirm this again.
