Chapter 638: Chapter 561 Old Acquaintances Reunion_2
The cries startled the guards outside, but as they rushed in, they were torn to pieces by an invisible force.
Not until half the floor was covered with the blood and flesh of those demons did Salvador finally lift his head again.
Although his eyes were still blood-red, he had at last calmed down.
Amberser couldn’t help but say as he looked at the carnage, "Your brutal methods haven’t changed at all."
Salvador said coldly, "I am no longer a Light Priest, but a demon, a cruel and vicious demon. Do you have a problem with that?"
"There’s nothing like a few tears to stiffen the spine."
Salvador’s eyes widened with anger as he cursed, "You damned... do you still want my help or not?!"
"How could you not help me? I saved Laine, I helped the Lord of the Dawn win the wager, and I am also Arthur Laine’s close friend..."
"Don’t mention that name!" Salvador said excitedly, "You must have deceived His Majesty the Holy King; even if you don’t admit it, I can guess! What right do you have to call yourself his friend?!"
Amberser shrugged his shoulders, disbelief or not, even if Arthur Laine came back to life, he wouldn’t deny it.
Amberser said to Salvador in resignation, "Alright, enough chit-chat. I want to end the Blood Battle. What help can you offer? Don’t tell me all your years as a Clerk haven’t given you any good advice to offer."
"I knew you were going to say that, which is why I’ve been avoiding you," Salvador said helplessly. "Ending the Blood Battle is a slogan you’ve been shouting. If it’s just a smokescreen, then I advise you not to dream too big. It’s an impossible task; not just for you, but all the demons of the Nine Layers of Hell combined couldn’t end this battle, because the Blood Battle is part of Hell Law, a key to punishing sinners. Unless you destroy the Nine Layers of Hell, what right do you have to change Hell Law?"
Destroying Hell was impossible, only Aeo might achieve it, and the sleeping Lord of Hell was like a king of the Nine Layers of Hell, bearing kingly authority. But a king can’t destroy his own kingdom; at most, he can only abdicate.
"Don’t splash cold water on me just yet; first, tell me about the origins of this Blood Battle, and I’ll give it some thought," Amberser said.
"There’s not much to tell. The endless Nether River connects countless planes, and one of its massive tributaries links The Abyss with Hell, which is the Blood River you’ve seen. But that’s just a small part of the Nether River..."
Salvador began explaining the cause of the Blood War Battlefield and the distribution of its different regions to Amberser.
This was basic knowledge known to all Archdukes of the Devils. Salvador, having served as the secretary for the Steel Duke for many years, was also responsible for sending troops and equipment to the Blood River Fortress over the years and thus knew the Blood War very well.
After listening for a while, Amberser only picked up on two key points.
First, it was the tributary of the Nether River that enabled demons to reach Hell, and for countless years, the devils had been unable to permanently close this tributary, hence the Blood War’s eternal nature.
Theoretically, if the Nether River could be cut off, it would solve everything.
But that was as likely as kicking Aeo himself and taking the title of God above Gods, so it was essentially not worth considering.
Second, Hell Law is constantly self-completing. The Blood War didn’t start out as a fixed method for punishing sinners, but it’s been going on for so long that the Nine Layers of Hell have come to accept its existence as part of the Law. To end the Blood War would be to combat the will of the plane of Hell itself.
Even attempting to lay low in the territory of Melina would provoke retaliation from Hell Law, let alone trying to stop the Blood War. The backlash could easily destroy Melina and everything she owned. Amberser might dodge some of the punishment with his unique traits, but he wouldn’t come out unscathed.
Strictly speaking, he too was a sinner who had descended into Hell.
Both points seemed insurmountable, but Amberser felt there might be a chance with the second point. If the Nine Layers of Hell could accept the Blood Battle, might it be possible to have them accept something else in its place, thereby severing the Nether River’s incursion?
Sharing this idea with Salvador, the Clerk immediately scoffed, "The eternal war is a torment of unimaginable horror. Where will you find a corresponding punishment that satisfies all Nine Layers of Hell?"
"That... I have no idea right now, but it’s not entirely impossible," Amberser said.
"Fine, assuming you can do it, how will you expel the Nether River from Hell? The Nether River is not just a river, it’s a very special plane, and what it’s connected to is The Abyss. To sever the connection between planes is something even powerful divine forces may not manage to accomplish."
Amberser, stroking his chin, said, "That could also be researched."
He hadn’t tried banishing a plane before, but had been involved in the banishment of a kingdom. Perhaps, once his phenomenally gifted student Harvey ascended to godhood, sacrificing him might sever Hell’s branch of the Nether River.
Not that Harvey had to be sacrificed; in any case, it was worth studying.
Salvador, unaware of Amberser’s confidence, only felt that things were becoming increasingly abnormal and couldn’t help but ask, "This isn’t just a cover? You really want to end the Blood Battle?"
Amberser nodded and said, "I do have that idea, and I never said it was just a cover."
"Are you crazy? Why would you want to end the Blood Battle?"
Salvador looked at Amberser in shock. Was this guy seriously not joking? Putting aside whether it was possible, why would he want to do such a thing? Was it simply madness?
