Chapter 637: Chapter 561 Old Acquaintances Reunion

Second Layer of Hell, Iron Fortress.

A Magic Mirror was brought before Salvador.

Gazing at the huge mirror, this Clerk sighed and activated the Magic Mirror with a touch.

Amberser’s visage appeared on the surface, and the two locked eyes for a long time, but both were silent, as if neither knew how to begin.

After three hundred years of not seeing each other, Salvador had become a Devil, and Amberser had turned into a Mirror Spirit. Once fighting side by side, they ended up as enemies. With too many stories between them, they didn’t know where to start.

Eventually, it was Salvador who spoke first, saying to Amberser, "After so many years, I’m surprised you haven’t ascended to a Deity."

Amberser replied with self-mockery, "Becoming a Deity isn’t that simple, especially for someone as greedy and unrestrained as I am. Among mortals, there are too many greedy ones; I’m just one of them."

Salvador laughed and said, "Greedy by nature... It seems you have changed quite a bit over these centuries. The you I knew back then attempted to assassinate me seventeen times for the sake of your inner justice and fairness, persisting for several years."

Amberser: ...

It was unexpected that upon meeting an old enemy, it wasn’t a tense confrontation but rather an indescribable awkwardness.

If I were still a Lich, I could have blocked out those useless emotions and engaged Salvador with a flawless fake smile to discuss past cooperation.

But having regained the feelings of a living person, emotions become incredibly complex; taking the good with the bad, unlike the singular happiness from being high.

But being centuries old, Amberser soon regained his composure and said to Salvador, "I believe you’ve already heard the news of my release. I need your help to End Blood Battle."

Salvador showed no excitement, simply saying calmly, "Let’s not talk about whether I’ve put the past resentment behind me. Even were you a stranger, why would I think you’d help me, and why do you believe you can accomplish such an impossibility?"

"How will you know it’s impossible if you don’t try?" Amberser said.

However, Salvador replied, "Twisting words is pointless; you’ve played those tricks on me before. I might not be as clever with words as you, but I’m not fooled by appearances. You’re insane, and it’s irrational insanity at that. I don’t know what your deeper reasons are, but I will not help a madman, regardless of the benefits."

Amberser, unaffected by the rejection, smiled and said, "So, you’re saying if I weren’t mad, you would help me then?"

Salvador’s eyebrows twitched, disdainfully saying, "I told you, don’t try that language trap nonsense..."

Amberser cut him off, "This isn’t a language trap; this is the true voice from the depths of your own heart. Salvador, centuries have passed, and I am not the same person I was. I’ve now learned to read people’s expressions. Even though you are now an Archduke of the Devils, you still can’t control your expressions."

Salvador: ...

Looking at the silent Clerk, Amberser threw his last remark: "The Laine of today no longer dwells in extreme fanaticism. The Lord of the Dawn won the wager, Holy Light will once again envelop the Laine People, but unfortunately, this future has nothing to do with you."

Salvador clenched his fist uncontrollably, crushing a thick stack of papers into dust.

Amberser, taken aback, said, "You didn’t know? Impossible, the Second Layer of Hell’s Clerk couldn’t possibly be ignorant of the changes in Laine, are all the daily reports you read fabricated? With so many people falling into Hell, such a significant event, how could you not know. Oh, I see, you dare not inquire; after all these years, you still haven’t let go of Laine, haven’t forgiven your past self, you dare not look at anything related to Laine, even afraid to hear half a word..."

"Shut up! You hell-bound piece of shit!"

Amberser said with disdain, "After hundreds of years as a Devil, is that the best you can curse?"

Salvador closed his mouth. Though confident he could see through all of Amberser’s schemes, he still got irked. It was the past he couldn’t forget, the commitment he held most dearly in his previous life.

Even when the Lord of the Dawn negated his choices, leading him to fall into Hell laden with sins, Salvador never resented the Lord of the Dawn. Because Salvador himself knew, hurting innocent Dwarves was wrong no matter what grand justification was used.

A sin is a sin, and Salvador didn’t feel his centuries of torment in Hell were about atonement.

He was merely accepting punishment, and the constant regret and shame were specifically tailored tortures for him.

And now, the problem with Laine had been resolved?

The Lord of the Dawn had finally bestow his favor on His believers again?

Salvador’s eyes reddened, something warm seemed about to flow out. Lowering his head and gritting his teeth, Salvador said, "Tell me what happened."

He could have checked himself, but Salvador wanted to hear the outcome from Amberser’s mouth; it was once the reason for their enmity, and now it seemed a fitting end.

Amberser didn’t provoke Salvador any further and explained all that had happened in the briefest but most precise language.

Hearing how Arthur Laine’s Heroic Spirit dissipated while completely vanquishing the Magic Dragon, Salvador couldn’t hold back anymore, and the esteemed Clerk leaned over the desk, sobbing loudly.

Arthur Laine was special to all Laine People, a pillar of life second only to the Lord of the Dawn. Amberser didn’t know what Salvador was thinking now—regrets of not having realized his ideal, allowing Arthur Laine to be sacrificed again, or feeling that he too was an accomplice in killing the Holy King.
