Chapter 444 - 416: The Grand Priest of the Mermaid Clan

Chapter 444: Chapter 416: The Grand Priest of the Mermaid Clan

As everyone knows, there is no such thing as telephones or telegrams in this world.

The fastest way to transmit information is through a Teleportation Circle, which directly transports people to deliver messages, whether orally or in writing. That is the quickest method of message delivery.

Today, only the Necromancy Codex of the Elegy Poetry Society and the Magic Mirror of Amberser can perform real-time communication over long distances.

However, the Blue Algae Tribe is too small to afford the costly setup of a Teleportation Circle. Thus, Nepreis had no choice but to resort to the most primitive method and swim directly to the teleportation point.

He repeatedly instructed his people not to offend those two prominent figures from the realm of the undead. Then, Nepreis boarded his Conch Ship, hauled forward by a dozen dolphins.

These specially trained dolphins swam swiftly, but it still took half a day to bring Nepreis to another large Mermaid Tribe.

It took Nepreis several more hours to obtain permission to use the Teleportation Circle, and when he exited the Circle, his vision was filled with magnificent colors.

This was the territory of the powerful Rainbow Tail Tribe, where the Grand Priest of Yizhuoluo led as the leader of the tribe.

The tribe occupied an entire trench, decorating the surroundings as brilliantly as jewels, with palaces constructed of coral and seashells sparkling in the dim blue light.

Nepreis wove through pearl-strewn paths bordered by seaweed that gently brushed against him, with schools of fish darting about, creating a dreamlike atmosphere amid the interplay of light and shadow.

While the Blue Algae Tribe had similar arrangements, they paled in comparison to those of the Rainbow Tail Tribe.

Fortunately, the merfolk had few customs, and Nepreis was swiftly summoned by the High Priestess Ariel.

The Mermaid High Priestess was clad in a magnificent armor adorned with seashells and coral. Her trident shimmered with rainbow hues, and even her face was protected by a delicate red coral mask.

It was well known that this high priestess was once the most formidable warrior of the Rainbow Tail Tribe before assuming her current role. No one had imagined she would one day become the high priestess.

To Nepreis’s surprise, High Priestess Ariel said, "You are Nepreis? I remember you. At the last tribal alliance meeting, you were the second to arrive. Your tribe is located on the outer edge, right? Have you encountered some trouble and come seeking assistance?"

Nepreis had intended to deny any trouble, but upon recalling the identity of the lich, he immediately corrected himself, "The Grand Priestess is correct. Our Blue Algae Tribe has encountered a great trouble. The Lord of the Silent Night Sea has come to our tribe with a lich and requested a meeting with you."

"The Lord of the Silent Night Sea? Our merfolk have no grievances with them. Aren’t those undead usually fighting with the Sharkwa Fishmen? What do they want with me?" Ariel asked.

"They claim to have important intelligence to deliver to the Goddess."

Nepreis relayed to the Grand Priest exactly what Amberser had told him, but upon hearing this, Ariel replied, "It is a critical period now, and I don’t want to deal with those undead. Although the Lord of the Silent Night Sea isn’t known to mingle with those demonic stingrays, who knows what the undead are thinking? I cannot simply pray to the Goddess based on such unclear intelligence."

Deities are exalted beings, especially the Racial Gods, who are the ultimate "Father Gods" for their respective races. Every merperson is exceedingly devout towards Yizhuoluo, and they dare not disturb her whimsically.

Why would the undead suddenly seek them out?

To Ariel, the likelihood of this being a conspiracy was incredibly high.

Ariel said to Nepreis, "Just tell them that I am too busy recently. If they wish to meet, they’ll have to wait. Once I’m done with the urgent matters at hand, I will get in contact with the Silent Night Pirate Group."

Nepreis was about to agree when he suddenly added, "Grand Priestess, I failed to explain clearly earlier. This matter is probably not decided by the Lord of the Silent Night Sea. The one who truly wishes to communicate with the Goddess is the lich. His name is Diga Ultraman."

"Is it just a lich?" Ariel looked confused. Was it odd for a lich to be in the Silent Night Pirates?

But quickly, Ariel’s hand holding the trident trembled, and she said with great surprise, "Which lich did you just say? Is it the one who annihilated the Dragon Race and the Githyanki? "

With a bitter smile, Nepreis replied, "That’s right, it’s him. If it weren’t for this lich, I wouldn’t dare bother you at this time."

Ariel fell into silence.

If it were just the Silent Night Pirate Gang, Ariel could have made them wait. Though formidable, the pirates wouldn’t likely declare war over a trivial matter.

But with the lich included, it changed things.

The entire ocean had heard of the lich’s cruelty and greed. Even Giants Dragons had been skinned and stripped by him, and tens of thousands of Gith Yankees and Laine People had died at his hands simply because they did not want to trade with him.

This was akin to a tyrant among the undead. If she refused to meet him, the lich might well launch an extermination strike against the Mermaid Clan, perhaps banishing all merfolk from this world.

The thought was terrifying. How could one person exile an entire kingdom?

Ariel hadn’t believed such rumors until the Volcanic Ocean Region appeared before all the Sea Tribes.

Contemplating this dreadful possibility, Ariel had to seriously consider meeting with Amberser.

"This is a greedy, malicious, and vengeful undead. What exactly does he want from our Goddess?"

Airel pondered for a long time but in the end, could not come up with any answers, so she said to Nepreis, "I will go to the Blue Algae Tribe to meet with the Lich, you go back first and make preparations. Remember, be prepared for the worst."

Nepreis nodded hurriedly, speaking very seriously, "I understand, High Priestess. The warriors of the Blue Algae Tribe are not afraid of death."

Nepreis rushed back to her tribe and saw Amberser, who had been waiting for her all day.

But this time, in addition to the two Undead, there was also an extremely ugly human being.

The man’s face was covered in lightning-shaped scars, giving him an untrustworthy appearance, but he seemed alive, not an Undead.

First, Nepreis spoke to Amberser, "The High Priestess has agreed to meet with both of you, please wait a moment longer, she will come over as soon as she finishes her current matters."

Amberser asked curiously, "She won’t invite us over to her side?"

Nepreis hastened to say, "How could we let our guests tire themselves further? To show sincerity, the High Priestess will come personally."

Amberser chuckled and did not expose Nepreis’s thoughts. It seemed these Merfolks were scared by him, not daring to bring him deep into the Mermaid region.

However, it did not matter. Amberser did not care about such details.

The one he truly wanted to communicate with was not any High Priestess, but Goddess Yizhuoluo. It might sound arrogant to say so, but Amberser indeed didn’t need to deal with mortals anymore; it was the lofty Deities that he was focused on.

Seeing Amberser did not cause a scene right away, Nepreis let out a sigh of relief and then asked, "May I ask who this guest is?"

Nepreis was genuinely afraid that Amberser might mention another outrageous name, which would truly make her anxious enough to have difficulty breathing.

"He is Aeolus, my friend, he also desires to meet your High Priestess."

Thankfully, Amberser casually mentioned a quite common name.

Nepreis had never heard of the name Aeolus, and though she thought anyone who could befriend this Lich must be no ordinary person, it couldn’t be more frightening than the Lich himself.

Nepreis calmed down somewhat and did her best to show off her abilities in hosting guests, doing everything to keep Amberser, this terrifying guest, placated in case he would get impatient and turn hostile.

Naturally, Amberser didn’t make things difficult for Nepreis. Businesspeople always greet others with a smile, even when they’re stabbing them in the back, they do so with a smile on their face.

Even though Nepreis’s awkward small talk was boring, Amberser could still chat with her for half a day, keeping the atmosphere from being awkward at all.

When Nepreis received the notice that Airel had arrived with her guards, the Mermaid priest was surprised to find that four hours had passed.

She had been anxiously entertaining the Lich, and yet she ended up losing track of time herself. Nepreis could not understand when she had let down her guard completely. The Lich was more talkative and amiable than she had imagined, which didn’t fit the image of the tyrant described in the rumors at all.

Not only that, but this Lich was extremely knowledgeable, and his conversational skills were outstanding. Over those few hours, Nepreis felt as though she had traveled to land, as listening to Amberser recount the scenery made her feel as if she were there herself.

Deserts of gold, jungles of emerald green, and mountains persistently wreathed in storms... Unknowingly, Nepreis lost herself in these landscapes she had never seen before.

Such an impressive Lich, had she really not fallen under an illusion technique?

Or perhaps, there was some inaccuracy in the rumors she had heard; this Lich didn’t seem so fearsome, after all.

But no matter what Nepreis thought, the one to face Amberser next wouldn’t be her.

Tens of thousands of Mermaid Warriors gathered majestically above the coral reefs of the Blue Algae Tribe, drawn by tamed Sea Beasts pulling enormous Conch Ships carved and modified into mini Magic Towers.

At a glance, Amberser knew these weren’t simply pleasant houses but Magic Towers that had been transformed. There were fifteen of those Conch Magic Towers, each around ten meters tall. The vast spread of Magic Power emanating from them could be felt even by those who weren’t Spellcasters.

Amberser and Aige exchanged looks, both understanding that the Mermaids were displaying their power to them.

But neither of them took it to heart. Indeed, they could say they had seen scenes far grander than this. Just a few tens of thousands of Mermaids were not enough to shake their resolve.

Amberser said to Aeolus, who was searching for Airel, "Brother, I will let you meet with that High Priestess Airel soon, but no matter if you recognize her or not, keep your mouth shut and don’t say a word, or you won’t be my friend anymore."

Aeolus hurriedly replied, "Got it, I swear on the Lord of the Storm, Talos, you tell me to stay quiet, and I won’t utter a word!"

Amberser: ...

Really joking with Talos there, acting as a believer but taking a Deity’s name in vain, aren’t you afraid of being struck by lightning?
