Chapter 445: Chapter 417 Anything Is Possible

The Mermaid High Priestess slowly swam out from a splendid seashell surrounded by a flock of Murloc warriors.

Her tail was very long, with brilliant and colorful hues that stood out particularly in the ocean.

"Rainbow Tail Mermaid?"

Amberser had heard of Rainbow Tail Mermaids, a race far more powerful by birth than other mermaids, rumored that the stronger the magic within them, the more dazzling the colors of their tails, indicating a kind of race where one could see the disparity in strength at a glance.

This High Priestess’s tail was as beautiful as a rainbow, probably a legend as well.

However, upon seeing the High Priestess’s face, Amberser was left speechless, because she wore an ornate coral mask adorned with pearls and shells, completely obscuring her features.

Glancing back at Aeolus, the boy’s face had turned red with anxiety. They’d gone through so much trouble to find an "Airel," and now they couldn’t even see her face. How was he supposed to recognize his wife?

All Amberser could offer was comfort, "Don’t worry, there will be a chance. Just be patient."

It was then that Aeolus clenched his teeth and restrained himself, having sworn to Talos that no matter what, he would listen to his friend.

The unawares Mermaid High Priestess approached Amberser with her entourage.

"Master Ultraman, Ms. Aige, a pleasure to meet you for the first time. I am a priestess of the Rainbow Tail Tribe, you may call me Airel."

Amberser tried to compare the voice of the Airel in front of him with that of the princess of the Fury Tide Kingdom, and found this Mermaid High Priestess’s voice to be much more pleasant.

Mermaids are natural singers, and even those without training can sing songs that put humans to shame. However, High Priestess Airel’s stature was a bit exaggerated, with a length exceeding three meters including her tail, and her body was significantly larger than other mermaids. The stature of the princess of the Fury Tide Kingdom in her comparison might only reach as high as Airel’s tail.

"High Priestess, it is an honor to meet you. Our visit was quite sudden, so we didn’t prepare a proper gift. We only have five hundred Yixi Manta Rays, which might be the most suitable gift present for the mermaids now."

The High Priestess had already heard about this, just not expecting such a large number. If there were five hundred corpses left, then they had certainly killed more Yixi Manta Rays.

Indeed, such a gift was the best for mermaids—there was nothing more pleasing than the corpses of their enemies.

The High Priestess joyfully said, "Thank you for your contributions to the ocean, these demons deserved to die."

"You’re welcome. After all, we have come to seek an audience with Goddess Yizhuoluo, which requires your assistance to communicate with the Deity, and naturally, we wanted to show some sincerity."

Having said this, Amberser took the Mermaid High Priestess by surprise.

She didn’t seem to fit the stereotype of an Undead Tyrant who would resort to violence over a disagreement, did she? Quite polite, wasn’t she?

With a puzzled heart, the High Priestess asked again, "Communicating with the Deity is my duty, but may I ask, Master Ultraman, what is your purpose for seeking an audience with the Goddess?"

The biggest problem was right here. Communing with a Deity is a grand ritual that cannot be initiated for a trivial matter. The High Priestess was more worried that these Undead had some conspiracy and might take advantage of her communion with the Deity to harm the Mermaid Tribe or act against the interests of the Deity.

Without confirming Amberser’s true intentions, she would not help summon Goddess Yizhuoluo, even if it led to a war with the Undead.

Sensing her guarded gaze, Amberser calmly said, "The reason is actually quite simple. I have information that could lead to significant turmoil in the ocean, which I need to report to Goddess Yizhuoluo. I know She is an absolutely neutral entity and would not take sides, so I hope to alert Goddess Yizhuoluo to be prepared in advance."

The High Priestess said helplessly, "Master Ultraman, what you say amounts to saying nothing at all. Besides, you do not dwell in the ocean. Claiming it is for the stability of the entire ocean seems a bit far-fetched, doesn’t it?"

"Oh? Why do you say that? I have always been a lover of peace, High Priestess. Do you have any misunderstandings about me?" Amberser asked.

The High Priestess thought to herself, was this Lich simply lying, or did he have some other scheme? How could a man with his reputation claim to love peace?

"Master Ultraman, as you understand, Goddess Yizhuoluo’s stance is neutral, so as her followers, we do not hold any special prejudice against the Undead. But for an Undead to say he loves peace, that seems somewhat insincere."

Amberser sighed and said to the High Priestess, "I knew it, ever since I came here I felt it—mermaids must have some misunderstanding of me. The Mister from the Blue Algae Tribe, Nepreis, was also startled when he heard my name as if I was going to eat a mermaid."

"No wonder," said the High Priestess calmly. "Anybody would be afraid facing a Lich who exiled an entire kingdom and slaughtered tens of thousands, including the Dragon Race."

"You see, that’s the misunderstanding," Amberser said with a smile. "Let’s not talk about the Kingdom of Impure Hymns; it’s too complicated to explain in a few words. Take the Dragon Race, for instance, I came to save the Overseas Dragon Clan from being deceived by the Githyanki, who aim to invade the mainland. Thanks to the favor of the Goddess of Fate, I smoothly resolved the Githyanki problem. Now, the Overseas Dragon Clan is unharmed, and this matter is settled satisfactorily.

"As for slaughtering tens of thousands, that’s even more of a wrongful accusation. I created the Life Casket myself through alchemy. I don’t need to slaughter humans to obtain souls."

The High Priestess, confused by Amberser’s words, persisted, "What about the Laine People then?"

"Laine sent seven Legendary fighters and an entire legion, but I am merciful. Although I defeated them, they left unscathed. If you don’t believe me, I have a Memory Crystal here that detailed everything that happened earlier."

Amberser handed over a Memory Crystal, which was precisely what he intended to disseminate across the world, in order to utterly strip the Laine People of their moral high ground.

The High Priestess took the crystal but did not examine it.

If the Lich could produce such an item, it likely wasn’t fake, and there was no need to tell lies that would easily be exposed with a single probe.

"You don’t kill Laine People either?" The High Priestess asked curiously.

Laine and the Undead are mortal enemies. Having won the battle, not turning those seven Legendaries into puppets, how could he reconcile with his own Race?

Amberser said helplessly, "As I have said, I have always loved peace. I once quelled the war between the Dwarves and the Elves, and I have encountered several provocations by the Laine People, but I always captured them alive and then let them leave."

"I have a friend who once said that he wishes to create a world where all races could live in peace, and I think that ideal is very great, so I also want to contribute. My visit to Goddess Yizhuoluo this time is for the peace of the sea. But the intelligence we speak of is too critical to be disclosed here under the scrutiny of public eye, lest it leaks out."

"If the Grand Priest believes I have some credibility, we can discuss this in private."

The High Priestess stared at Amberser’s face, but it was impossible to discern any expressions from the Skeleton face, hence, impossible to assess the Lich’s thoughts.

She clenched the crystal in her hand, finally leaving with these words, "Then please, Master Ultraman, await patiently, I will give you a response shortly."

Having said that, the Mermaid High Priestess retreated back into her conch-shell palace.

The moment she entered the conch, the High Priestess couldn’t wait to examine the contents of the Memory Crystal.

And to her alarm, what she saw shocked her even more than before.

This Lich had a Paladin in his command?

A Paladin defeated seven Legendaries and won? How formidable must this fighter be?

More importantly, a Paladin working for a Lich, and the Lord of the Dawn saw no issue with this? Had the Deity had the slightest dissatisfaction, that Paladin would have fallen from his oath long ago, impossible to possess such powerful Holy Light.

The High Priestess felt her mind in disarray; after many years of not interacting with the land, what on earth had happened on the surface for even a Paladin to serve a Lich?

But her confusion and shock didn’t alter the truth of the matter – perhaps what the Lich had said was true, that the Holy Light truly stood by his side, meaning he could represent righteousness better than Laine could.

The absence of divine punishment from the Lord of the Dawn on the Lich indicated that this could very well be the truth.

"A peace-loving Lich? This is even more preposterous than a greedy Undead Tyrant."

The High Priestess exclaimed, then summoned the leaders of the Mermaid Tribe. The Memory Crystal was passed amongst the hands of the mermaids, followed by a barrage of gasps. Once everyone was stunned by the recorded scene, the High Priestess raised the most critical question: should they agree to summon Goddess Yizhuoluo if the Lich indeed came for peace?

All the mermaids fell silent, but in the end, they agreed one by one.

This outcome was within the expectations of the High Priestess. A Lich more righteous than a Paladin would carry significant weight, suggesting that his talk of an impending chaos in the sea could likely come true.

If so, it was imperative to inform Goddess Yizhuoluo.

Soon after, Amberser was invited into the conch, sitting face to face with High Priestess Ariel.

"Master Ultraman, it’s just the two of us here. This conch is protected by a Magic Barrier ensuring confidentiality, no one can possibly know about our conversation here. Now, please tell me, what is the grave matter that could cause chaos in the sea?"

Amberser didn’t beat around the bush and stated directly, "Grand Priest, I suspect that the deity of the Koutoa Murlocs is planning to usurp the faith of other Deities, coveting the belief of the Fury Tide Kingdom, the Mermaid Tribe, and even other maritime Races."

The High Priestess showed a look of surprise.

A battle for faith? Every struggle for faith had been the fiercest of wars, and this sea had already seen more than one large-scale melee due to colossal conflicts of belief.

After all, there is only so much living space — the more followers you have, the fewer others possess.

If it involves the Koutao Mermaid Goddess... there’s no doubt, She is a mad one; She’s capable of anything!
