This Lich Requests More Remuneration -
Chapter 443 - 415: The Second Airel
Chapter 443: Chapter 415: The Second Airel
Nepreis was truly frightened.
The title of the master of the Silent Night Sea carried significant weight, and anyone who lived in the sea knew better than to provoke Captain Aige unless a deity intervened. No one could match this pirate gang.
Fortunately, they usually operated within their own territory, and true acts of piracy were rare. There had been times when the seas remained calm and undisturbed for more than a decade.
Although Aige was powerful, he didn’t have a reputation for brutality. There were no stories of them attacking defenseless underwater villages.
It seemed they only liked to target prey that had the means to fight back, like the aggressive and ruthless Sharkwa Fishmen. They had little interest in home-bound races like the Merfolk.
Simply put, they weren’t that scary; to the Merfolk, the threat they posed was much less than that of the Yixi Manta Rays.
Thus, Nepreis only held respect for the Silent Night Pirate Group, without any real fear. These undead wouldn’t bother the Merfolk unless provoked.
But the name Diga Ultraman was different.
Recently, this name had been spreading throughout the seas like a tsunami.
It wasn’t just a metaphor. He had banished a kingdom, creating a new marine area that lowered the sea level by about half a meter.
This massive change in sea water naturally shocked all the marine races. Upon inquiry, they learned of this name, and the image of a tsunami struck everyone’s minds.
He had snatched away a kingdom’s land—was he even human?
Oh, the latest news: he wasn’t human; he was a Lich.
And this Lich had built a small island in the ocean, first slaughtering a Githyanki army, twenty dragons, and thousands of Githyanki under a meteor shower, turning them into corpses. Then he captured the entire Overseas Dragon Clan. He tied up a dozen multicolored Giants Dragons and laid them out on the beach to dry, and those tempestuous Giant Dragons didn’t dare resist; they were completely subdued.
Don’t assume the Dragon Race looks poor; that’s because they aren’t adept at diving. They can’t beat the Sea Tribe underwater, but in the sky or on land, these marine races are no match for them.
And this Lich went straight to Dragon Island and subdued hundreds of dragons.
That wasn’t all; he even dared to provoke the Laine People. Seven Legendary figures joined forces against this Lich and were soundly defeated, a story that was already spreading far and wide.
A Lich who feared not even the Holy Light—what on earth could possibly oppose him?
Aige didn’t like to bully the weak, but this Master Ultraman didn’t have such a good reputation.
It was said he took revenge on the Tiflin Kingdom because they had tricked him into a bond-servant contract. The result of his revenge was that he banished the entire kingdom. It was also said that he went to the Dragon Race to do business, and when the Giant Dragons refused to be skinned and deboned, the Lich simply captured them by force.
And as for those Githyanki, it was the Lich who had let them in, only to turn around and annihilate his business partners.
How ruthless? How evil?
When Nepreis heard Amberser admit his identity, his tail trembled, and he almost couldn’t help but bolt and flee.
Too frightening—could you, as a Lich, not masquerade under the Silent Night Pirates’ name and act like a good person?!
Nepreis was already sweating bullets, thankful that in the water no one could tell. He hoped that the 300 coils of Pearl Dew would appease this greedy Lich, so he wouldn’t obliterate the Blue Algae Tribe in a fit of rage. They were just a small tribe without a single Legendary figure, incapable of withstanding the Lich’s terrifying methods.
Aige watched the trembling Nepreis and couldn’t help but contemplate how successful Amberser’s campaign of intimidation was; she hadn’t managed to scare anyone like this during her years dominating the seas.
Amberser delightedly accepted the Pearl Dew, then proceeded to reassure Nepreis, "Don’t be nervous; I don’t eat mermaids. Although I’m not entirely clear on how outsiders speak of me, I have always been just a businessman. I’m here today to discuss business with the mermaids."
Nepreis had been scared to the point of silently praying to Yizhuoluo for protection, sensing the moment was ripe; it was time to calm this Mermaid Priest.
Amberser steered the conversation back on track, and Nepreis regained some composure, recalling that they had initially mentioned having information to pass to the Mermaid Goddess.
But Nepreis had been so startled by the name Amberser that he had forgotten the matter at hand.
Gulping a few mouthfuls of seawater, Nepreis, struggling to contain his unease, asked, "Master Ultraman, what is the information you have brought?"
"Mr. Nepreis, are you sure you want to be involved in the secrets of the deities? I don’t mean to belittle you, but I’ve dealt with many deities, and their whims could be catastrophic for mortals. If you’re not a whale, don’t swim into the vortex," Amberser said.
Nepreis, realizing the wisdom in those words, quickly replied, "I will notify High Priestess Ariel immediately, please wait here."
After speaking, Nepreis launched himself into action and swam out at the fastest speed of his life.
Amberser, grinning, said to Aige, "See, that worked out, didn’t it?"
Aige nodded in agreement, "You’re more capable than me; if it were me alone, who knows how long I would have waited."
Her code name within the Elegy Poetry Society was Mute, as she was not good at speaking. Recently, she had even found that whenever she spoke, it often led to awkward silence; Aige was increasingly feeling unsuited for social interaction.
If the Mermaid Tribe had refused, Aige wouldn’t have known how to proceed; she couldn’t just storm in and propose a collaboration, as Yizhuoluo, despite being neutral, wouldn’t tolerate such aggressive behavior.
Amberser was very confident that as long as he could communicate with Yizhuoluo, it should be easy to inquire about the Goddess’s thoughts, and catering to her preferences should be enough to bring up the issue of faith division. After all, believers were only currency to the Deities, and what is currency for if not to spend?
But just as he was feeling smug, Amberser suddenly turned to Aige and asked, "Wait, what did that mermaid say the Grand Priestess’s name was?"
Aige was taken aback for a moment, then recalled, "I think she said Ariel."
Amberser gulped down two conch shells of Pearl Dew excitedly, could it really be such a coincidence?
The Grand Priestess of the Mermaid Tribe was also named Ariel?
But this wasn’t strange, as the name Ariel is quite common in the ocean, it’s not odd to find others with the same name.
Amberser was only thinking that the Deity behind Aeolus wanted to play tricks to encroach on other Deities’ believers, so the choice must be an important figure from a great power, and Princess Ariel of the Fury Tide Kingdom was the most likely target.
But if the Mermaid Grand Priestess was also called Ariel, then the identities of these two Ariels must be quite similar.
Could it be that Aeolus’s actual goal was this Ariel?
Aige also caught on, and curiously said, "Interesting, could you have guessed wrong before?"
Amberser hurriedly said, "Hold on, let me think."
The strange part was that there was no premonition from the Goddess of Fate, so Amberser really couldn’t determine which Ariel was referred to.
The power of the Mermaid Tribe was much stronger than that of the Fury Tide Kingdom, and the Koutao Merfolk also lived in the sea; fighting for the mermaid territory seemed more appropriate. It wasn’t like the Goddess’s followers with a mental disorder could just run onto land.
It seemed like everything made sense.
Oh no, I might have inadvertently brought Aeolus to his destination.
Indeed, Deities are never simple, and without realizing it, I might have been outwitted.
Amberser despised dealing with fools and the mentally ill the most, but unexpectedly, this time he encountered both, Aeolus the fool and the Koutao Mermaid Goddess the lunatic, both of whom didn’t play by the rules, so it was impossible to judge their actions logically.
However, Amberser quickly calmed down. Even if it was this Ariel, so what? Weren’t things even better then?
If the Fury Tide Kingdom was safe, Amberser’s Alchemy Factory would face no obstacles. As for the struggle between the Koutao Mermaid Goddess and the Mermaid Goddess, what did that have to do with him? It was the perfect opportunity to play both sides, sell information, and make a fortune.
Excellent, or rather, too excellent. The heavy burden of Aeolus was now about to be transferred to the mermaid, and Amberser could comfortably return to being his capitalist self.
With this in mind, Amberser suddenly felt the world open up before him, feeling no pressure at all.
"I’ll go call that lad Aeolus over, hahaha, I’ve helped him find a wife, and this favor is no small matter."
Amberser, feeling elated, chose the Teleportation Circle and directly returned to the Ghost Ship of Murloc Phil.
When Amberser found Aeolus, the lad was sprawled on the Ghost Ship, picking barnacles to eat, his teeth strong enough to crunch them, shell and all, directly in his mouth.
Seeing Amberser come back, Aeolus excitedly said, "Didn’t you say you had lots of things to be busy with? How come you’re back so soon?"
Amberser happily told Aeolus, "I’ve got some news about Ariel."
As soon as Aeolus heard the name "Ariel," he became instantly excited. Could the task given by the Father God be completed so soon?
Aeolus rushed to Amberser’s side, hugging him tightly and said, "Good brother! You’re my half-brother from different parents!"
"Who did you learn that from?" Amberser asked, puzzled.
Aeolus replied, "From that half-rotten Murloc. He always talks like that to the undead on the ship. What’s wrong, is there something off?"
"Uh... well..." Amberser didn’t know how to retort and decided to get back to the point: "Aeolus, is your wife a mermaid?"
Aeolus thought for a moment and then said, "I don’t know, I know what she looks like, but I haven’t seen what her lower half looks like."
Talos had only shown Aeolus the upper body image of Ariel; since a mermaid’s face isn’t much different from a human’s, Aeolus really didn’t know if Ariel was a mermaid.
"You don’t even know that?" Amberser said, resigned, but he had to be honest, "Then I can’t say for sure, but I do know that there’s a mermaid priestess named Ariel, she might be who you’re looking for. I’m currently in touch with her and will take you to meet her when the time comes."
Aeolus quickly said, "Yes, yes, thank you so much! Good brother, I owe you too many favors."
Aeolus was almost in tears from excitement; just after being born here, he had been deceived and had his head chopped off. If it weren’t for meeting Amberser, he would still be aimlessly wandering the sea.
The help Amberser had given him was immense; he was simply the best person in the world.
