Chapter 262: Chapter 243 Amberser’s Invitation

Gustavo Flint still didn’t know what kind of existence he was facing.

Even though Withered Rose was dressed like a noble, the constant superiority of the intellectuals in her environment made Gustavo Flint dismissive of the nobility.

This was the influence of experience: a lack of awe towards nobility naturally meant a lack of recognition, to the point where Gustavo Flint couldn’t even identify the origin of the clothing Withered Rose wore.

If it had been Laine People, they would have turned tail and fled already.

This was the black rose and the emblem of the skeleton, the exclusive signs of the Undead Queen.

Therefore, by the time he felt an itch in his ear, it seemed already too late.

Gustavo Flint instinctively reached for his ear, only to pull off his entire right ear.

Gustavo Flint looked incredulously at the ear in his hand, covered in rot, as if it had been cut from a corpse that had been dead for several days.

Before he could confirm whether he was under an illusion, the rotten ear suddenly split open a mouth full of sharp teeth and viciously bit into his finger.

The intense pain made Gustavo Flint throw his own ear away, and this time he could confirm it was not an illusion.

Warm blood flowed from the wound where his right ear had been, staining half of his face red.

Gustavo Flint didn’t panic but stared at Withered Rose and said, "What did you do?"

Withered Rose coldly replied, "Since you can’t understand what I’m saying, your ears are useless, right?"

Gustavo Flint’s right hand clenched, and the ring on his index finger shone brightly, his missing right ear quickly regrowing.

"I didn’t want to stoop to fighting a woman, but now even that Lich can’t blame me for laying hands on his lady."

Gustavo Flint raised his left hand, and another ring lit up.

Withered Rose only felt her body stiffen, a powerful force bearing down on her, forcing her to fall embarrassingly to the ground.

A Command Spell?

Withered Rose recognized the enchantment effect of that ring and quickly turned into a cloud of black smoke.

The force from the Command Spell vanished, and Withered Rose had already flown up to the second-floor corridor, looking down at Gustavo Flint from above.

Though Gustavo Flint showed little change in expression, his heart was completely enraged, determined to make this woman pay today.

A glass bottle appeared in his hand at some point, which he then threw at Withered Rose on the second floor.

The bottle hadn’t shattered, but in mid-air, it turned orange-red and then exploded with a bang.

The searing flames and glass shards seemed to have locked onto their target, shooting towards Withered Rose.

Withered Rose casually drew a line in the air, freezing both the flames and the shards in place, and then she looked towards Gustavo Flint.

Gustavo Flint felt numbness spreading again, but this time it was not in his ear, but his chest.

This was not right; what kind of spell was this? His robe was supposed to shield him from most spells.

Moreover, Gustavo Flint’s specialty was creating magic equipment, and he wore over thirty pieces of various magic gear; if this woman cast a spell on him, the anti-magic necklace should have triggered.

With a flurry of lights, Gustavo Flint activated several pieces of magic equipment that could remove abnormal states, yet to no avail; the numb feeling would disappear only for a moment before returning again.

If he couldn’t dispel the spell effects, then he would just have to kill this strange woman first.

However, just as Gustavo Flint was about to make his move, a young man with black hair appeared before him.

Amberser smiled at Gustavo Flint, "Oh, dear Flint, old friend, what’s this? Fighting in my home?"

It would have been strange if Amberser hadn’t heard such a loud explosion.

"You’re quite timely; otherwise, you’d have to find a new lover," Gustavo Flint told Amberser.

Amberser turned back to glance at Withered Rose and then at Gustavo Flint, asking, "Wait, you’re saying she’s my lover? Do you know who she is?"

Gustavo Flint said indifferently, "A Necromancer? I don’t understand much about Necromancy Spells, but she acts as if she’s the lady of the house, so she must have a special relationship with you."

Amberser sighed, then leaned in and whispered a sentence in his ear.

Gustavo Flint’s eyes suddenly widened, disbelief flickering across his face for a moment.

Amberser patted his shoulder, "Don’t worry, I’m here, let’s find a place to talk this out slowly."

After speaking, he turned to Withered Rose, "Lady Rose, my work here is done, the item is in the laboratory."

Amberser led the stiff Gustavo Flint out of the hall and zigzagged to a secluded corner.

Amberser said with a smile, "Flint, you can breathe now."

Gustavo Flint glared at Amberser, and although he knew the other was the Undead Queen’s successor and had truly been frightened, he wasn’t so nervous that he forgot to breathe. This damn Lich was clearly mocking him.

"Don’t glare at me. Didn’t I save your life after all?"

"Hmph, I might not have died."

"Would you like to try that again?"

Gustavo Flint knew that in a war of words he would never be a match for this Lich; only a fool would engage in a physical confrontation with Her Majesty the Queen.

Although Alchemy City had little to do with Gloomyland, he also knew the formidable reputation of the Undead Queen.

The Undead who had survived numerous sieges by Laine had almost wiped out the Drow Elves to extinction, completely subjugated the Subterranean Dwarves and Grey Dwarves to slavery, and she had organized a sudden raid on Laine Imperial Capital years ago, with two hundred thousand Undead besieging the capital.

Historical records say that the Undead Queen killed three hundred Paladins with a single glance on the battlefield, turning them into her Undead slaves, frightening the people of Laine into holding up within the city walls. Laine was supposed to be the nemesis of the Undead, but they were besieged for a full fifteen days; if the Silvermoon Knight hadn’t arrived in time, the Imperial Capital might have fallen.

However, there were rumors that after that great battle, the Undead Queen was severely weakened and had perished upon return to Gloomyland. But thirty years later, she made a comeback in her subterranean kingdom, slaughtering the Drow Elves who had occupied her kingdom, making it known to all creatures of Gloomyland that the Queen had returned.

If he had known earlier that she was Lady Rose, he would have turned and left on the spot, willing to negotiate with Amberser on the price at the scene of the election.

Now, it was too late for anything. Gustavo Flint had no desire to stay in the same castle as that terrifying queen, so he said to Amberser, "Hmph, I don’t have that much time to waste with you. I came here today to do business with you, knowing that you’re fond of money, so let’s skip the pointless probing. I want Isabel’s support in tomorrow’s election. Name your price."

Amberser replied, "Ah? You’re talking about that? It’s so simple, ten billion Gold Coins."

"Can’t you be serious?"

Ten billion; if he had ten billion, he could just bribe everyone to vote for him.

"I am being serious, Chairman of the Alchemist Council! Think about it, how much was the former Chairman worth? Ten billion is too little," Amberser said earnestly, as if he truly believed it.

Gustavo Flint held back his anger and retorted, "Do you think the Alchemist Council is still the same as before?"

"If it’s not the same, then why do you want to be the Chairman?"

This question from Amberser made Gustavo Flint pause.

Amberser continued, "Flint, we have known each other for many years, and among the Alchemists in Alchemy City, you have always been the most ambitious one. A Chairman is just a madman pursuing knowledge to its utmost, but you prefer power and status."

"What exactly are you trying to say?"

Gustavo Flint felt there was a deeper meaning in Amberser’s words, certainly not just about negotiating the price.

"What I’m saying is, why not think bigger with your ambition? Can the mere Alchemist Council compare to being chosen by the God of Alchemy?"

Gustavo Flint gave Amberser a contemptuous look.

"Do you know what you’re talking about? Chosen by the God of Alchemy? When has this deity ever glanced at us Alchemists? Are you burning some junk as fuel for your Soul Fire, making your thoughts so muddled?"

The seven towers in Alchemy City, created by the deities, symbolize the greatest humiliation of all Alchemists. This divine being had never given any oracle, never helped any Alchemist complete their research, only stepping in to destroy their endeavors when they reached the pinnacle.

To not find a way to kill such a deity was one thing, but to claim to be Chosen by God?

"I know that you have many grievances with the God of Alchemy, and the God rarely communicates with you. But deities, well, acting enigmatically is normal for them. Alchemists and the God of Alchemy are two inseparable beings; instead of harboring resentment, why not collaborate? Right?"

"What exactly do you want me to do?"

Gustavo Flint realized he truly didn’t understand Amberser at all. After so many years of acquaintance, this Lich always managed to surprise him with something new.

"Simple, you continue being the Chairman, but I hope you can help me revitalize Alchemy. All countries on the continent rely on Alchemy products, and you and I are well aware of this. But to revive Alchemy within a short timeframe, we need to cooperate."

The main task for Amberser was to make Alchemy great again. He initially only thought of building his own Alchemy factory, making his products popular across the continent, and gradually helping the Alchemy industry to recover.

But after returning, he discovered Isabel had found a new Youth Potion and had gained a certain reputation, which began to shift his thinking.

He had the technology, the new formula, and now all he lacked was a large-scale production and sales channel.

Gustavo Flint seemed like a gift sent by the Goddess of Fate.

This old man’s identity, his connections, and his knowledge of Alchemy were all superior to that of Amberser. With his cooperation, Amberser’s plan could be accelerated by many years.

Now, all he needed was for him to nod in agreement.

"You’re willing to support me as the Chairman?" Gustavo Flint asked.

"Of course, ten billion was just a joke, you can’t really give me that much, can you?" Amberser said.

Gustavo Flint did not expect his goal to be achieved so quickly. Had this Lich changed its nature?

But the next second he knew he was wrong, for Amberser said to him, "Ten billion was a joke, but thirty million Gold Coins, now that’s a fair price."
