Chapter 261: Chapter 242 The Master’s Friends
With a specific requirement in mind, Amberser knew how to weave this soul.
The mobility of a Death Knight came entirely from their mount, and the summoning of mounts varied, which led Amberser to enhance the soul-related abilities as much as possible. Then there was the requirement for independent and autonomous mission completion, which meant the Undead had to understand how to adapt to circumstances and design the details of their actions accordingly.
Although Undead didn’t need to worry about supplies, they still had to consider recovery, so this Death Knight must have a way to heal themselves—maybe a dark healing spell or a similar spell capability. There also needed to be an enhancement of the Death Knight’s magic power recovery, which required an affinity between the soul and dark magic power...
Amberser wrote down these directions first, then proceeded with meticulous settings to ensure there would be no mistakes when it came time to weave the soul.
If they failed, the material costs, amounting to millions, would lead to a colossal loss.
Amberser carefully wove those colorful threads into the required patterns, integrating them piece by piece into that jellyfish-like soul.
Withered Rose didn’t wait here but instead began to wander about the castle.
The Undead Queen contemplated one thing: Could this castle one day become her possession?
Before meeting Amberser again, Withered Rose hardly spared him a thought, but after reconnecting, she remembered how Amberser had given her the Life Casket.
It was about time to clarify their relationship. According to her best friend, dragging out feelings was not good, as it could lead to them fading away.
Though Withered Rose still couldn’t find the feeling of being in love, Amberser had given her the Life Casket. If she didn’t agree, they could potentially become enemies.
Withered Rose still had business worth several hundred million to conduct with Amberser. Turning on him now, she didn’t know how many years it would take to counterattack Laine.
Thinking about it, it might be better to accept.
But should she bring up the matter herself?
As Withered Rose pondered, she wanted to ask her best friend, Miss Bone Dragon, who had managed to fall in love even as an Undead, but as she continued to wander, she suddenly came upon a woman dressed as a maid.
Cardina looked at the elegant and beautiful woman before her with surprise and asked, "Excuse me, who are you? Why are you in the castle?"
Because Withered Rose looked like nobility, Cardina’s tone was polite; otherwise, she would have taken a more confronting stance. With too many visitors looking for Isabel recently, and some attempting to sneak in, she was ready for confrontation.
But such an elegant lady was unlikely to be one of those rude intruders, right?
Withered Rose glanced at Cardina and said with surprise, "The Power of Time? Interesting."
How extravagant for that fellow to use the Power of Time to rejuvenate even a maid. Was he exceptionally kind to his human slaves, or did he have a special fondness for such youthful beauties? It was indeed puzzling.
Seeing that Withered Rose didn’t answer, Cardina’s tone grew stern.
"Madam, if you are not a guest invited by the master of the castle, I’m afraid I must ask you to leave."
Withered Rose gave Cardina another look; such an attitude was quite refreshing. With her habits, she would typically turn Cardina into an Undead for a good lesson. However, this was one of Amberser’s people—Withered Rose was willing to be a bit more patient.
"No need to be nervous, I am a guest invited by your master. Carry on with your duties," Withered Rose said.
Cardina frowned, "You are Miss Isabelle’s guest?"
Withered Rose, confused, replied, "Isabelle? Who is that?"
"You don’t know Miss Isabelle, are you...?"
Cardina wanted to say more, but at that moment, Isabel came running over from a distance as fast as she could, bowing deeply at a 90-degree angle to Withered Rose.
Isabel said with her head lowered, respectfully, "Lady Rose, I apologize for Cardina. She’s new here; please forgive her rudeness."
"You’re Isabel?" Withered Rose inquired.
"Yes, Lady Rose, I am the teacher’s student... uh, I mean..." Isabel said, getting nervous and starting to lose coherence.
She recognized Withered Rose; Amberser had specifically warned her that this lady was a powerful Undead who required respect. Although unsure how powerful that might be, Isabel knew it was enough to crush her effortlessly. Cardina’s ignorance had truly startled her; she feared Cardina had unknowingly offended the visitor.
Withered Rose looked at Isabel, another pretty girl. Could that guy be one of those promiscuous men? But it didn’t matter. There were plenty of beautiful Drow Elf women in Gloomyland, as many as one could want.
Withered Rose couldn’t be bothered to continue the conversation with the two and walked past them in her high heels without another glance.
Not until Withered Rose was completely out of sight did Isabel let out a sigh of relief.
Cardina hastily asked, "Miss, who is this person?"
Isabelle said, "I only know that she is Lady Rose, a very important guest of my teacher, and you must not make her angry. If she gets angry, I fear my teacher will be angry as well."
Isabelle knew that Withered Rose was an important client of Amberser, who had specifically instructed her about this before, and she also understood just how crucial business was to Amberser, an absolute line that must not be crossed.
Cardina frowned and said, "Miss, how come you’ve become an outsider after your teacher has returned?"
Isabelle said with regret, "I’ve always been an outsider."
She was just a slave whom Amberser had picked up; being able to become his student was already an immense stroke of luck, and she dared not harbor any other thoughts. The castle belonged to her teacher, and she was just staying there temporarily, even having to work to pay rent.
But in Cardina’s eyes, it wasn’t so simple. Isabelle’s expression of regret resembled that of a poor girl who had been abandoned. Perhaps that Lady Rose was the master’s lover, maybe even his first one.
Cardina originally wanted to encourage Isabelle to strive harder, but after comparing the two, she found herself unable to voice such advice. Lady Rose seemed like a noble swan, whereas Isabelle was at best a somewhat cute sparrow.
And judging from what had just occurred, Lady Rose did not even recognize Isabelle. The gap between their statuses was simply too great.
"Miss, don’t worry, I know what to do," said Cardina.
Not causing trouble for Isabelle was what she, as a maid, should do; from now on, it was better to avoid Lady Rose.
From now on, Cardina dared not inquire further about any friends of the master of the castle, so as not to make things difficult for Isabelle.
After the minor incident, the castle fell back into silence.
However, at that moment, a carriage suddenly appeared outside the castle. The clinking sound of bells, hung on the carriage to alert passersby and signal a visit, reached into the castle.
Naturally understanding the meaning of the bell sound, Cardina quickly made her way to the front gate of the castle.
It was a luxurious black carriage, and dismounting from it was an alchemist in opulent robes.
As a local, Cardina recognized the attire. Those were robes that only the big shots from the original Alchemy City could wear, indicating that this dark-skinned, serious-faced gentleman was of noble status.
Cardina quickly went to greet him, asking, "Sir, may I know who you are?"
Gustavo Flint said coldly, "I am a friend of the castle’s owner. Tell him, Flint has come to visit."
A few hours earlier, Cardina would have hesitated to let this man in without first notifying her superiors, but upon hearing he was yet another friend of the castle’s owner, she didn’t dare to stop him, and promptly ushered Gustavo Flint inside the castle.
She initially intended to have the alchemist wait in the small hall and then report to Isabelle to consider whether or not to notify others.
But as soon as they entered, they happened upon Lady Rose who was passing through the main hall on the first floor.
Withered Rose and Gustavo Flint locked eyes, though neither regarded the other with much significance.
Withered Rose knew that Amberser had a wide circle of acquaintances, and it was normal for an alchemist to visit. Gustavo Flint, on the other hand, merely noted Withered Rose’s beauty, wondering why such beautiful women always flocked to that Lich. What meaning did beauty hold for a Lich, after all?
Cardina, not wishing to allow the atmosphere to become awkward, hastened to say, "Lord Flint, please rest here for a moment; I will notify my master right away."
But no sooner had she spoken than Withered Rose interjected, "Are you here to see him? He is busy now and cannot be disturbed. Please come back another time."
Her tone was that of the lady of the castle.
But Gustavo Flint let out a cold snort and said, "The matter I need to discuss with him is of utmost importance. Just tell him the name Gustavo Flint, and he will naturally come out to meet me."
Withered Rose, however, again coldly refused, "I said he is busy right now. You can come back another day."
Amberser was in the process of creating a soul for her, having given explicit instructions not to be disturbed. How could Withered Rose possibly allow this alchemist to interrupt Amberser’s work? What if the creation failed?
Gustavo Flint had already concluded in his mind that Withered Rose’s relationship with the Lich was not ordinary; perhaps she was indeed a foolish woman beguiled by the Lich. He had no desire to argue with her.
But come back another day? tomorrow was the election, and if he did not deal with Amberser today, he would have no chance on another day.
Gustavo Flint stated firmly, "If that guy knew you refused my company, he probably wouldn’t let you off so easily, my lady. I don’t want to quarrel with you. You don’t understand him – business is more important to him than anything else. So please, tell him my name. I’ll be waiting right here."
Withered Rose frowned and locked her senses onto the alchemist.
Can’t this man understand human language?!
