Chapter 263: Chapter 244: The Mighty Legendary Grace

Gustavo Flint left with a grim expression on his face.

In the end, Amberser had swindled him out of five million Gold Coins; although it was less than he had anticipated, the thought of spending five million Gold Coins per vote still pained him greatly, and it wasn’t even a guarantee of election.

However, Amberser had also said that if he wasn’t elected in the end, he would refund half.

As for other aspects of cooperation, Amberser had asked Gustavo Flint to find him the highest-grade Mana Refining Furnace, installation included, and in return, Amberser would give him priority in the agency rights for a portion of the Youth Magic Potion.

It seemed like a win-win, but it appeared that Amberser had made a fortune.

Gustavo Flint couldn’t afford to haggle too much with him; he still needed to prepare for tomorrow’s election. Although he had Isabel’s support, which could help him win many young people’s votes, it wasn’t a hundred percent certainty.

His opponent was not to be underestimated.

After sending off his old friend, Amberser hurried back to the laboratory.

Withered Rose was carefully examining the soul that emitted colorful lights. Seeing Amberser arrive, she praised, "Perfect, even better than I imagined."

Amberser quickly replied, "Of course, I have put forth my greatest effort to meet your requirements. I have input into this soul the command to be absolutely loyal to you, which it will not betray under normal circumstances."

"Under normal circumstances? What constitutes a special case?" Withered Rose asked.

Amberser explained, "I have preserved a degree of self-awareness in this soul and given it the ability to grow on its own, meaning this little one has its own personality. If you, as its master, treat it too harshly, the soul might develop a feeling of resentment. But based on my previous experience, as long as it’s fed like a pet, its absolute loyalty can be assured."

Withered Rose inquired, "Can’t a soul contract that cannot be defied be signed?"

Withered Rose did not like subordinates that could potentially pose problems, so all her subordinates were slaves bound by her contracts, unable to rebel against her orders. If this soul couldn’t be absolutely safe, then she had to consider the possibility of unexpected incidents seriously.

"I cannot sign such a contract while maintaining the growth potential of the soul. I believe, Lady Rose, you understand that such contracts come into effect only after erasing all self-awareness. It would be a waste to do so since this undead was created from the corpses of three Legendary beings," replied Amberser.

The core of any type of undead is the soul.

A soul erased of its self-awareness could never qualify for Legendary status, nor could it have any room for growth. Even if it was originally Legendary, the Legendary Grace could dissipate on its own after erasing its self-awareness.

Because that is no longer you.

There isn’t a perfect solution for every problem; Amberser could only ensure this level of loyalty as best as he could. Just like a fledgling considers the first creature it sees as its mother, Amberser made the soul believe that Withered Rose was its closest kin. Of course, both Amberser and Withered Rose held the same level of control; he did not wish for the little one to one day thrust a longsword into his skull.

Withered Rose hesitated for a while before saying, "I understand. Let’s begin the transplantation then. I will treat this little one well."

The soul, radiating vibrant colors, was gingerly picked up by Amberser and placed into the enormous flesh egg.

As the colorful light submerged, the enormous flesh egg started to quiver.

The blood-red glow twitched continuously, and the Drow Elves, whose bodies were pierced by veins, also shook before being completely drained into husks.

Blood poured onto the flesh egg, intensifying its vibrations.

Suddenly, a pale arm pierced through the outer wall of the flesh egg, bringing out a large amount of foul-smelling blood.

Then a second hand extended from the crack. Together, the hands tore the enormous flesh egg apart.

A figure drenched in blood emerged from within the flesh egg, looking around curiously, its right eye bearing a special rune that extended from the eyelid to the cheek. Amberser, unable to decipher the rune’s purpose, suspected it was intentionally left there by Withered Rose.

Amberser asked, puzzled, "Why is the body female?"

Flesh bodies were created by Withered Rose, who generally would craft a male majority for Death Knights.

Withered Rose said, "I like daughters."

Well, the client’s wish is the command.

The bewildered Undead girl, newly born, seemed intrigued by everything yet cautious like a kitten, gingerly moving to Withered Rose’s side and attempting to tug at her hand.

Withered Rose stroked her bloodied hair as dark energy surged from the Undead Queen’s palm, enveloping the Undead girl’s entire body. The blood quickly darkened and hardened, turning to ash that fell away from the girl’s body, while the dark energy simultaneously condensed into form-fitting armor that covered her physique.

Rose took the girl’s hands, pulling her up, then declared, "From today onwards, you are my daughter."

The girl revealed an excited expression and called out with a hoarse voice, "Mommy."

Amberser hadn’t expected Withered Rose to take her role as a mother so seriously; it seemed he needn’t worry about loyalty issues anymore.

To his surprise, Withered Rose suddenly asked Amberser, "Give her a name."

"Me?"

"You created the soul, and I created the body; this could be considered our child. As the father, it’s only natural for you to name it."

Amberser found this statement rather odd, but the one who pays is the deity. As long as Withered Rose paid enough Gold Coins, he could even say the girl was his long-lost biological daughter.

"I’m not particularly gifted at naming. If I must come up with something, how about Melina?"

The girl with the mystical runes over her eyes prompted Amberser’s first impulse to suggest this name.

"Not very pretty, but fine, it’s a name given by a father." Withered Rose said to the girl, "From today on, you shall be known as Melina Laine."

Withered Rose then asked Amberser, "The child will take my surname. You don’t have an objection, do you?"

"Uh, no, as you wish."

The situation seemed increasingly bizarre. Had he suddenly acquired a child with Lady Rose? Surely she wouldn’t ask him for child support.

Watching her "daughter", Withered Rose spoke gently, "Come, Melina, let me see your power. At the moment of your birth, the Legendary Power had already converged within you, right?"

Although Melina had just been born, Amberser had infused her with a certain level of intelligence while weaving her soul, including the basics like language and writing; thus, Melina could fully understand Withered Rose’s words.

Melina walked to the center of the laboratory, closed her eyes, and began to manifest her Legendary Power.

Blue light emerged from the laboratory’s floor and a mysterious Magic Array appeared beneath Melina’s feet.

"Is this the Magic Array for summoning a mount?"

Although Amberser had not created a Death Knight before, he was quite familiar with this ability—the exclusive power of a Death Knight was to summon a Nightmare Mount.

However, what Melina summoned was not a nightmare, but... a sapling.

This odd sapling had stark white branches and leaves blue as crystals.

"A Whispering Tree!?"

This time, Amberser was genuinely startled.

The Whispering Tree was a very special plant that grew in Gloomyland, known as the nightmare of all Spellcasters. Where the whisper blossoms bloomed, all Spells were rendered unusable.

This included but was not limited to the Spells of Mages, the bloodline powers of Magicians, the exhortations of Bards, and the Divine Arts of Priests... It was said that even relatively weaker Deities could be affected by the whisper blossoms.

A Whispering Tree would rapidly wither away once removed from Gloomyland, a process that would not last more than three seconds.

Yet under Melina’s infusion of magical energy, the Whispering Tree sapling did not wither but instead grew wildly, reaching three meters in height before starting to thicken and take shape.

Before the astonished gaze of Amberser, a warhorse completely formed out of the Whispering Tree materialized.

Its body and limbs were wooden, covered in armor made of Whispering Tree petals. The moment the Whispering Warhorse took shape, Amberser felt a vast barrier unfold, enveloping him within.

His Dark Magic Power was utterly suppressed, and he couldn’t even summon the Golden Throne.

This was the power of the Whispering Tree, belonging to the force of rules, the bane of all Spellcasters. An Anti-Magic Field could also suppress magic, but its range was limited, and its duration short. Moreover, it couldn’t completely prevent the use of magic, and Amberser’s Golden Throne could break through such restrictions.

But the power of the Whispering Tree was different; within the barrier, all magic was absolutely sealed, and no struggle could change that.

What was even more astonishing was that Melina herself seemed completely unaffected; she could still use Black Magic Power to conjure a dark spear for herself—this was a traditional ability of a Death Knight, nothing special.

The problem was, she had cast a Spell inside the Whispering Tree’s barrier.

She could cast spells, but no one else could; just the thought of it was terrifying.

Withered Rose spoke in astonishment, "Incredible, Melina, you are more powerful than I imagined."

Excited, Melina mounted her warhorse and said to Withered Rose, "Mom, I want to go for a ride."

"Don’t rush, Melina. When we get home, you can ride as long as you like," Withered Rose replied.

Although a little disappointed, Melina retracted her mount and obediently followed Withered Rose.

"I am very satisfied. The final payment will be sent to you directly. I will take Melina home now. If you wish to see your daughter, you can always come to Gloomyland to find me."

Amberser quickly responded, "Definitely, definitely."

Yet, what he thought was that Withered Rose’s enemies were in trouble—a Death Knight with an inherent absolute magic-forbidding barrier; who could stand against it?
