Chapter 1513: Chapter 1513: Hope You Can Have the Last Laugh

"What are you planning to do?" Ling Ruonan softly asked Luo Ziling. "Can’t you tell? Many people are worried you’ll lose your rationality."

"I know," Luo Ziling nodded. "Whether it’s Li Jiawei, or Grandpa and Grandma, they’ve all reminded me. But I don’t want to be a chess piece that others manipulate. If life is a chessboard, I don’t want to be a piece—I want to be the one playing the game."

Ling Ruonan felt a surge of concern from Luo Ziling’s words. She gently asked, "What are you planning to do?"

"Why should they get away with doing such murderous and plundering things so brazenly?"

Ling Ruonan stared blankly at Luo Ziling, visibly startled. Ultimately, she didn’t try to dissuade him, only giving a soft reminder: "Whatever you do, you must act with extreme caution. And before deciding on anything, you have to prepare for the worst possible outcome."

"I understand," Luo Ziling nodded again, not intending to continue discussing it with Ling Ruonan. "Mom, let me give you another massage. Get some good rest, and stay home to recover tomorrow so that everyone thinks your injuries are quite serious. I won’t go to school either; I’ll stay here to keep you company."

"Alright," Ling Ruonan thought about it for a moment, deciding not to say anything further in the end.

After massaging Ling Ruonan for a while, she eventually fell into a deep sleep.

After leaving Ling Ruonan’s room, Luo Ziling headed to his own bedroom.

Lin Lan was standing in front of the window, lost in thought as she gazed at the view outside.

Noticing Luo Ziling enter, she turned around.

Lin Lan walked up to Luo Ziling and asked softly, "Is there something you want to tell me?"

"How’s your wound healing?"

"It’s fully recovered, so I didn’t need to trouble you for further treatment. I know it hasn’t been convenient for you," Lin Lan said, a gentle light flickering in her eyes as she looked at Luo Ziling quietly. "Recently, I haven’t had much going on, and I probably won’t have any missions. If you have something you need to do but feel it’s not convenient to entrust to others, just tell me."

"My dad will be coming over in a little while. He’s currently on his way to Yanjing, probably taking the high-speed train."

"Do you want me to pick him up?" Lin Lan looked surprised.

"No," Luo Ziling shook his head.

Lin Lan didn’t press further. She merely looked at Luo Ziling quietly before nodding gently after a moment. "I’ll head out then."

"If you’re willing, go to Yangcheng tomorrow."

Lin Lan nodded again and asked, "The smaller matter or the bigger one?"

"The smaller one."

"Understood," Lin Lan nodded once more, saying softly, "Alright, I’ll take my leave now."

"Thanks for your hard work."

"It’s been a while since I’ve gone anywhere. I’ll treat it as physical exercise," Lin Lan said with a faint smile as she prepared to leave.

But as she passed by Luo Ziling, she stopped. She didn’t look at him; her head hung low as she stared at the floor.

Luo Ziling reached out and embraced her tightly.

Lin Lan also exerted some strength, holding Luo Ziling firmly for a moment before burying her face in his chest.

The two remained in this position for about half a minute. Then, Lin Lan let go and left without looking back.

When Luo Ziling walked out of the room, Lin Lan was already gone.

Ouyang Feifei and Luo Yuqing were standing by the door. As Luo Ziling came downstairs, they both stared at him with surprised expressions.

"Did you argue with Lin Lan?" Luo Yuqing asked him in a low voice. "Why did she leave so suddenly?"

"She had something to attend to."

"Not a fight?"

"Why would I fight with her?" Luo Ziling looked at Luo Yuqing with a puzzled expression. "I’m not like you."

Luo Yuqing shot him an annoyed glare but ultimately said nothing more.

"Is your mom asleep?" Ouyang Feifei asked quietly.

"Yes, she’s asleep," Luo Ziling nodded. "Why don’t you both go get some rest too?"

"Alright, I’ll head out then," Ouyang Feifei nodded and asked Luo Yuqing, "Are you coming with me?"

"Alright," Luo Yuqing had initially wanted to stay, but realizing there wasn’t a place for her to sleep, she decided to leave with Ouyang Feifei. As she prepared to leave, she said to Luo Ziling, "I’ll come by again tomorrow. Do you need me to bring anything?"

"Maybe grab some groceries from the market," Luo Ziling replied straightforwardly.

Luo Yuqing initially thought Luo Ziling was teasing her, but seeing his serious expression, she didn’t take offense and readily agreed.

After Ouyang Feifei and Luo Yuqing left, Wuyue came in.

"Hold off on any actions for now. Wait until my dad is back in Jinling before making a move," Luo Ziling softly instructed Wuyue. "For the next week, don’t do anything. Understand?"

Wuyue was a bit surprised by Luo Ziling’s directive, as it was inconsistent with his previous instructions.

However, Wuyue realized the reasoning behind Luo Ziling’s words and ultimately did not question him, nodding lightly to indicate understanding.

Wuyue didn’t inform Yang Xiaodong or Wang Zhenjun that Luo Xusheng was coming. He trusted they were unaware of this matter since Luo Xusheng probably hadn’t told them.

Seeing it was already past nine in the evening, Luo Ziling dismissed the standby bodyguards to rest, keeping only the night-shift personnel stationed around the villa.

After making these arrangements, he returned to his room to take a shower.

As he was showering, his phone started to ring loudly. However, he didn’t step out to answer it and only checked his phone after finishing the shower.

The recent call had been from Fang Dongxun.

Luo Ziling returned the call. Fang Dongxun answered quickly.

"I heard Mrs. Ling was in a car accident and got injured?" Fang Dongxun asked directly. "What’s the situation now?"

"She’s not in any life-threatening condition," Luo Ziling answered vaguely. "I already treated her, and she’s just fallen asleep."

"With you there, everything should be fine," Fang Dongxun didn’t pry further, simply saying he’d come over to check on her tomorrow.

After ending the call with Fang Dongxun, another call came in. Seeing it was from Yang Qingyin, Luo Ziling immediately answered.

"Junior, I heard your mom was in a car accident. Is it true?" Yang Qingyin’s voice sounded anxious.

"Yes, my mom did get into a car accident on her way home. It was caused by a drunk driver who lost control of his vehicle."

Yang Qingyin paused briefly, then cautiously asked, "How’s your mom now? Is she seriously hurt?"

"With me here, everything’s fine."

"That’s good to hear," Yang Qingyin let out a sigh of relief. "I’ll come by tomorrow morning to check on her."

"Alright, let’s discuss the details tomorrow," Luo Ziling replied, then asked, "Did your dad scold you when you got home?"

"Of course he did," Yang Qingyin sounded despondent. "It’s hard to explain over the phone. I’ll tell you everything tomorrow."

The two didn’t talk much more and soon ended the call.

While Luo Ziling and Yang Qingyin were talking on the phone, in another villa, someone else was also on a call. The content of their conversation was strikingly similar to Luo Ziling and Yang Qingyin’s discussion.

"Yanjing is lively tonight. This play should be quite a spectacle!"

The person on the other end of the call remarked, "Just make sure you don’t set yourself on fire. I hope you’re the one who gets the last laugh."

"You underestimate me."

"Then I hope things turn out as you wish."
