Chapter 1512: Chapter 1512 We Have All Become Pawns
After saying a few words, Ling Ruonan drove Luo Ziling out, saying she wanted to speak with Lin Lan alone.
Luo Ziling had no choice but to obediently leave the room.
Ouyang Feifei and Luo Yuqing were chatting downstairs, but Luo Ziling didn’t want to join them. Instead, he returned to his own room.
To avoid being disturbed by Ouyang Feifei and Luo Yuqing, he hid in the bathroom and even locked the door.
It was only after staying inside for more than ten minutes that he came out.
Just as he stepped out of his room, he heard some noise coming from downstairs.
He quickly ran down and saw that Ling Mingrui and Xie Enhua had arrived.
It turned out Li Jiawei was right. Upon hearing their daughter had been injured, Ling Mingrui and Xie Enhua had rushed over to visit her that same night.
Ouyang Feifei and Luo Yuqing had already stepped forward to greet them, but Luo Ziling jogged a few steps and walked straight to Xie Enhua. "Grandma, why did you and Grandpa come, too?"
"Where’s your mom?" Xie Enhua tightly grasped his hand. "She was injured in a car accident? How serious is it?"
"Grandma, my mom just has some minor injuries. I’ve already treated her, so it’s no big deal," Luo Ziling reassured her in a low voice while holding her hand. "Li Jiawei and Wang Feiyang just came to visit her earlier. My mom hasn’t gone to bed yet—you should head up and check on her."
Ling Mingrui said nothing as he headed upstairs, while Xie Enhua, after a single response, led Luo Ziling upstairs by the hand.
Ling Ruonan’s bodyguards were still dutiful as ever, but because the people visiting tonight had such special identities, they did not stop them and allowed them in directly. As for some others who had come to visit Ling Ruonan but whose statuses were relatively ordinary, they were either blocked at the door or persuaded to leave.
By the time Ling Mingrui and Xie Enhua made it upstairs, Lin Lan had already finished her conversation with Ling Ruonan and was preparing to leave.
Seeing Ling Mingrui and Xie Enhua suddenly appear, she froze for a moment.
Ling Mingrui and Xie Enhua paid no attention to Lin Lan. They merely gave a slight nod before walking straight to Ling Ruonan’s bedside.
Lin Lan felt a bit conflicted, not knowing how to address Ling Mingrui and Xie Enhua. In the end, she could only lower her head and leave the room in silence.
As Lin Lan stepped out, Luo Ziling grabbed her and whispered, "Wait a bit before leaving. Security is tight outside; it’s not convenient for you to go out now. Come sit in my room for a while. Once they leave, I’ll come find you to talk."
Lin Lan nodded and entered Luo Ziling’s room.
When Luo Ziling returned to Ling Ruonan’s room, Xie Enhua was already sitting by the bed, holding Ling Ruonan’s hand and asking her all kinds of questions.
It was only after confirming that Ling Ruonan’s injuries were not serious that Xie Enhua finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Ling Mingrui instructed Ouyang Feifei and Luo Yuqing, who were standing at the door, to leave the room, leaving only Luo Ziling inside.
"Who did it?" Ling Mingrui directly asked Luo Ziling.
"I don’t know for now," Luo Ziling shook his head.
"Who do you think is most likely?"
"Chen Jiahai!" Luo Ziling answered without hesitation.
Ling Mingrui said nothing in response and remained silent.
Luo Ziling also refrained from speaking further, merely standing still quietly.
Xie Enhua ignored the exchange between Luo Ziling and Ling Mingrui, focusing instead on talking intimately with Ling Ruonan while holding her hand.
Xie Enhua had one son and one daughter, but she favored her daughter Ling Ruonan more.
Ling Ruonan was exceptionally capable and very considerate, which was one reason why Xie Enhua adored her.
Another reason was that Ling Ruonan had endured so much hardship over the years. Xie Enhua wanted to make up for it, so she often doted on her in various ways. Upon hearing that Ling Ruonan had been injured in a car accident that day, she had burst into tears.
Even now, as Xie Enhua spoke with Ling Ruonan, her eyes remained red.
Seeing the two women dabbing at their tears, Ling Mingrui stepped aside for a moment, and Luo Ziling followed suit.
"Someone wants to blow this matter out of proportion. You must try your best to keep things within controllable limits. Don’t bring trouble to the Ling Family, your mother, or yourself," Ling Mingrui finally stated his stance. "This incident definitely wasn’t orchestrated by your uncles or cousins—understood?"
Luo Ziling nodded firmly, "I understand. Thank you for your guidance, Grandpa."
Ling Mingrui didn’t say much else and returned to Ling Ruonan’s bedside.
Perhaps Ling Mingrui made a gesture toward Xie Enhua, as she quickly stood up and, holding Luo Ziling’s hand, left the room, leaving Ling Mingrui and Ling Ruonan alone.
Understanding that Ling Mingrui wanted to speak privately with Ling Ruonan, Luo Ziling cooperated by accompanying Xie Enhua out of the room.
"Ling’er, your mom is injured. Spend more time with her during this period and focus on helping her recover. Set everything else aside for now," Xie Enhua said emotionally, her eyes slightly reddened as she clung tightly to Luo Ziling’s hand. "Your mom has suffered so much over the years, and now she’s hurt so badly. It pains me deeply. No matter what, you must ensure she rests and recovers. Don’t let irrelevant people disturb her. Remember what your grandma is telling you!"
At first, Xie Enhua’s words about Ling Ruonan being gravely injured confused Luo Ziling, but as she continued, he began to understand. Xie Enhua wanted the outside world to believe that Ling Ruonan’s injuries were severe and would require a long recovery period.
This would elevate the gravity of the situation.
Luo Ziling figured this was also Ling Mingrui’s intention.
Without asking further, he simply nodded softly.
Xie Enhua quietly advised Luo Ziling on a few other matters, including reaching out to Luo Xusheng and Luo Liansheng to have them visit as well. Hearing this, Luo Ziling immediately called his grandfather, Luo Liansheng.
Unfortunately, no one answered Luo Liansheng’s phone, so Luo Ziling left him a message instead.
Luo Ziling knew Luo Xusheng must have already been informed about the situation, but he still called him in front of Xie Enhua.
"I’m already on my way to Yanjing," Luo Xusheng answered succinctly before cutting the call.
Soon after, Ling Mingrui emerged from the room and signaled for Xie Enhua to get ready to leave.
"Ling’er, Grandma will come by again tomorrow to check on your mom," Xie Enhua said, holding Luo Ziling’s hand as they reentered Ling Ruonan’s room to bid farewell. As they stepped inside, she kept speaking softly, "Take the day off tomorrow. Don’t go to school."
"Okay," Luo Ziling agreed. "I’ll stay home with Mom tomorrow."
Xie Enhua approached Ling Ruonan’s bed, offered a few comforting words, and assured her that she would visit again the next day. She then left with Ling Mingrui.
After they left, Luo Ziling returned to Ling Ruonan’s room.
The others tactfully refrained from following him in.
"Mom, I don’t think anyone else will come tonight. You should get some rest," Luo Ziling said with a smile as he sat by her bedside. "Let me give you a little massage."
"It’s fine," Ling Ruonan sighed, her face clouded with worry as she gazed at Luo Ziling. "I didn’t expect this incident to become so complicated."
"Indeed."
"We’ve all become pawns," she remarked bitterly.
Luo Ziling froze.
"Everyone is reacting as if on cue," Ling Ruonan said with a wry smile.
"We’ve unwillingly become someone else’s chess pieces. But I refuse to have the mindset of a pawn. I won’t be manipulated."
Ling Ruonan was startled by Luo Ziling’s resolute response.
