Chapter 308: Chapter 199: Inviting Kristin to Join the Alliance_1
In the darkness of the night, Ivita, leading the Ice Witch and her carriage, passing through several streets, arrived at a hostel where the hunters lived within the city.
Ivita walked to the front desk of the inn, found a charcoal pen and wrote down a name, telling the proprietor, "Sir, I’m looking for her."
The proprietor glanced at the name, then said warily, "Alright, but she’s not one to mess with. If you’re not familiar with her, it might be best not to provoke her."
Ivita glanced at the proprietor – evidently, her reputation preceded her.
Soon, a red nightgowned Kristin descended the staircase from the second floor. Upon seeing Ivita, she said somewhat irritably, "I thought someone wanted to hire me, and that was why I’ve come down."
"Oh, it’s you Ivita."
"Did you and that Black Bear Man quarrel so soon? Don’t tell me you want me to kill him for you?"
Still angry over the previous incident, Kristin spoke sardonically.
Kristin turned her gaze to the Ice Witch, her eyes flickering.
Ivita smiled, not minding the young girl’s sarcasm, and said, "I came here with a favor to ask."
"I am dealing with a witches’ society that has a thousand-year-old heritage. They had been trying to create an Immortal to deal with me in the past."
"You once told me that your bone knife can kill people shielded by True Love Magic."
"If so, I think if a cemetery really manages to turn out an Immortal, I could perhaps use this bone knife to kill the Immortal."
"Therefore, I would like to borrow it."
Upon hearing this, the Ice Witch finally understood. So, that’s how it was.
She also looked at Kristin. If so, in order to increase the chances of success, they must get the bone knife.
Kristin raised her eyebrows and said to Ivita, "Kid, you should know that the bone knife is a treasure of Hunter Forest."
"I am just its custodian, not its owner. I cannot lend it to you."
Kristin glanced at the Ice Witch.
Once the Ice Witch heard her refusal, her gaze on Kristin became slightly off.
Ivita noticed this and coughed as a reminder to the Ice Witch before saying to Kristin, "I was just asking, it’s not a must-have."
"Since you don’t intend to lend it, let’s forget about it."
Ivita changed his approach. "Instead, can I rent your bone knife?"
Kristin was momentarily stunned, then almost burst into laughter. "Ivita, you really are persistent."
The Ice Witch turned to give him a side glance. Wasn’t it just not a must-have just now?
Still holding back laughter, Kristin told Ivita, "You can’t afford to rent the bone knife, it’s a weapon that can kill demons."
"It’s also incredibly precious within the Hunter Forest."
"If you want to rent it, the rent will have to be at least six thousand gold pounds."
The Ice Witch commented bluntly: "That’s too expensive."
Ivita glanced at her and agreed with her sentiment. "So then, Kristin, I hope you have a pleasant dream tonight."
"Goodbye."
Kristin called out to Ivita, "Wait a moment."
Ivita turned to look at her.
Kristin continued, "Ambros’s millennium-old society... I think I have a pretty good idea of whom you’re planning to deal with. The Witch Cemetery indeed is one of Ambros’s semi-concealed forces. But it’s fairly known to many."
"If you’re going to confront the Witch Cemetery, I fully support you because the activities going on there in recent years have been rather unsettling, with killings being manufactured every year."
Kristin squinted her eyes, "Based on investigations, the frequency of disappearances in Kappa Town is about tenfold that of other regions. But in this world, it’s quite normal for some passersby to die, so no one has followed up with the cemetery."
"But the Hunter Forest has gathered some information. The last place where the Clan of the Leopard Women, who disappeared more than fifty years ago, might be, could be Kappa Town."
"I’ve always wanted to investigate that place."
"So, maybe I can go with you guys."
When Ivita turned her head, her eyes lit up. With Kristin’s former words, would her team of novice hunters also have to go with her?
Kristin said to Ivita, "Other hunters are hired for money."
"If you want their help, you must pay. Being my friend, I can offer you a 10% increase on the original price of hiring a novice hunter. Is that okay with you?"
Ivita pursed her lips, shaking her head in direct refusal.
She was joking. All her money was invested in the infrastructure. Where would she get the extra money to hire hunters?
Moreover, these mercenaries spend money like water. Their cost-performance ratio is too low.
To maintain these mercenaries, she would need to pay them salaries every month, yet that didn’t necessarily guarantee their loyalty and ability in combat.
The competence of mercenaries is truly uncertain.
Ivita said, "Kristin, welcome to our alliance."
"I accept, and you, Ice Witch?"
Although Ice Witch didn’t know Kristin’s strength, she knew from Ivita that Kristin possessed a powerful bone knife. Therefore, she said, "I can accept too. I guess everyone else will too."
Ivita suddenly thought of the Pan God.
Wait a minute.
She’d forgotten that the Pan God was not a human.
Ivita glanced at Kristin and shrugged. She’d let the Pan God handle it when the time came.
That fellow was just temporarily aligned with her for a common purpose. After cooperatively dealing with the cemetery, whether Pan God would be a friend or a foe remained uncertain.
Adding Kristen, a Red Robed Hunter who will definitely stand on her side against Pan God, is not a bad thing for her.
Ivita said to Kristin, "Tomorrow morning at six, we’ll meet at the city gate."
Kristin nodded her head.
...
The next day, they met at the gate on time. The Ice Witch had already left in Santa’s sled while Ivita and Kristin each took a horse-drawn carriage to Ivita’s territory.
Kristin was curious about what a young lord’s territory looked like.
Halfway there, they saw two corpses by the side of the road.
Through their inherent spirituality, Ivita recognized them as the two apprentice wizards she had released earlier.
Kristin, sitting in the opposite carriage, peered out and took a look at the two bodies. "The bite marks on the corpses are from a wolfman."
"They seem to be wizard apprentices. Well, there is quite a big difference between wizard apprentices."
Kristin looked over at Ivita in the opposite carriage.
Ivita said, "The average wolfman in that super wolf pack possesses incredible speed."
"Extraordinary physique."
"With such a sudden attack, an average wizard apprentice would have no chance to react, they’d get bitten and poisoned."
Ivita was worried that the wolf pack would spread from this city to other cities and towns, or even to her own territory, attacking her civilians.
She could now truly understand the devastation of a wolf pack.
Ivita decided that when she returns to her territory, she might first reduce the amount of cast iron she sells, letting the town’s blacksmiths craft a batch of cast iron armor and weapons, expand the militia, and strengthen patrols within the territory.
