Chapter 272: Chapter 182: Boots Cat makes an appearance, Gladiator profession, Hunter’s Hunting Arrow (7217)_2

The leader of the Carpenter’s Guild spoke on their behalf, gesturing to the young man standing behind him, "After extensive discussions, the City Council has concluded that Jenny’s marriage would affect the position and interests of Marlinna City. As such, the decision should not be made solely by her and her father."

"This is Geoffrey Abbot, the son of a senator from the Senate Republic on the Southern Peninsula," he introduced.

"We deem a union between Jenny and him to be more appropriate."

The Guild leader’s face turned pale with rage, "I need the city council’s approval to marry off my own daughter?"

The members of the Marlinna City Council all shook their heads in disagreement, asserting their right to have a say in Jenny’s marriage.

Baron Taketick’s face was also grim as he coldly stared at this suddenly appeared adversary, Geoffrey Abbot, and challenged, "You are not an Ambros citizen, are you?"

"Furthermore, the Senate Republic is a city republic that is nothing more than the size of one city."

"A nation so trivial, and you’re just the son of one of its senators; how are you worthy of marrying Jenny?"

Ivita understood. It seemed that these individuals who had abruptly appeared were the ploy by the Ambros City council to oppose Jenny’s impending marriage to Viscount Winchester.

Ivita asked with curiosity, "What is the Senate Republic?"

"Aren’t the Southern Peninsula has only the third largest republic, plus Ravenna and The Church’s nation?"

"Oh yes, there’s also the Epirus Republic. I heard the Hearthstone Witch say—it is also a small city republic, but it possesses its own witches’ council. Many witches, during The Church’s witch purging campaign, were forced to petrify themselves underground, waiting hundreds of years to resurface in flesh and blood once again."

"Upon resurfacing, they formed a force and collectively usurped a small earldom, establishing their own Witch Republic."

He sneaked a glance at the Ice Witch.

Originally, Ivita was speaking more to himself, as he was not familiar with the Ice Witch, and she rarely took part in trivial conversations.

However, the Ice Witch spoke up. "The Senate Republic is similar to the Epirus Republic you mentioned, both city republics that rule over various villages. However, their city is much larger than Ambros City."

"It is said that the Senate Republic is a relic of ancient civilization. The republic only holds onto the Rule of the Gladiator from the ancient society, stubbornly clinging to order and hanging on to the past, with no prospects for the future."

"Therefore, this republic stays away from conflicts, basking in their reclusion, entertaining themselves in the gladiator arena."

"There are many city republics on the Southern Peninsula, but most fail to understand their own laws, only functioning as lesser imitators of the three large republics."

"Only city republics like the Epirus Republic and Senate Republic hold a certain uniqueness."

A roaring argument ensued between Baron Taketick and Geoffrey Abbot, the son of a senator from the Senate Republic. The arguments ranged from each other’s heritage, ability, the status of their nations, and finally resorted to personal attacks on each other’s parents.

After bouts of heated exchanges, both men drew their swords and engaged in a standoff. The clash of swords echoed in the room.

Geoffery Abbot, son of the senator, had red in his eyes as he countered his opponent’s long sword with his short sword, saying, "You dare insult my country. It’s a duel, peacock, the winner takes Jenny!"

Baron Taketick, also livid, agreed, "Fine."

One brandished a long sword and the other a short sword. Baron Taketick relied on the traditional knightly warfare technique, blocking his opponent’s short sword with his own before launching an attack to the chest. His face was covered with a flushed hue akin to cayenne pepper.

Ivita recognized it as the Extraordinary Organ - Red Spirit Element Liver Leaf unique to Viscount Winchester’s faction.

Geoffrey Abbot, the senator’s son, displayed greater agility in his movements. Despite the short sword putting him at a disadvantage, he maneuvered his body to evade incoming attacks, avoiding contact with his opponent’s long sword.

Seizing his opportunity, he lunged at Baron Taketick and aimed his dagger at the Baron’s throat. Despite having his attack blocked, he resembled a wild beast relentlessly charging at its prey using the short sword.

Ivita noticed Geoffrey Abbot’s pupils changed to red.

Ivita turned to the Ice Witch, querying "Geoffery Abbot’s strength appears different from a traditional knight."

"His combat approach is dissimilar too."

The Ice Witch cast a glance at Geoffery Abbot before replying, "Indeed, it is different. He practices a unique profession exclusive to the Senate Republic—Gladiator."

"A Gladiator’s strengths come from their victories in the gladiator arena; with every victory their strength increases, and with every loss, they lose some of their strength."

"However, Gladiators also have to consume the Seed of Life produced by the alien flora."

"The emergence of Gladiators overwhelmingly depends on the Rule of the Gladiator and their core power probably lies in Berserk."
