Chapter 180: Chapter 131: The God of All Beasts and Two Slaves (4304)_3
"Alright then, I accidentally kicked this woman earlier. As compensation, I’ll offer you the man beside her."
Ivita had presumably expected this.
Only by keeping people under his control could he ascertain their identities.
Anyone who caught the attention of the Pan God must hold a special status.
The interests of Pan God did not align with his own.
Hence, he needed to have his own thoughts.
Upon hearing the slave trader’s words, the black-haired man in the iron cage suddenly lifted his head, then incredulously glanced at the trader and Ivita. Suddenly clutching his stomach, he said, "Ouch, my stomach hurts so much, I think I am sick."
"Master, spend some money and have me treated,"
he pleaded with the slave trader.
Jackson felt he was really out of luck, why was he facing such troubles today of all days?
It was hard enough to find someone interested in buying the slaves he had, yet one after the other, they all started having problems.
Could it be, the heavens were against him?
Jackson kept glancing nervously at Ivita while blushing, hoping Ivita didn’t hear about the slave’s illness and cancel the deal.
"Why would your stomach hurt? The food I gave you is quite decent."
"All of it bought from the market, albeit what couldn’t be sold last night. But it’s all good, none of it rotten, nor infested with any vermin. Just vegetable leaves and scraps of meat."
"Why would your stomach hurt!"
Each slave was an important asset to him; he would feel heartache even if one died.
Of course, Jackson wouldn’t be foolish enough to feed these slaves spoiled food.
Jackson retorted, "You... you just ate too much and need to use the toilet, that’s all."
"Mr. Ivita, you must believe me."
Ivita waved his hand dismissively. "Regardless of what’s happened to these two, I want to buy them. As for the money, just collect it from the Blacksmith Guild."
He specifically looked at the black-haired slave in the iron cage once more.
This fellow was actually refusing to be purchased by him?
Why?
The Old Witch came over and said to Ivita, "These two slaves are just ordinary people, what use could you possibly have for them?"
"Besides, slaves are expensive."
"You also have to take care of their food and drink, and even their life and death. They have no place to live, no clothes to wear. Everything has to come from your pocket, but there’s no guarantee they’ll do good work."
"You might as well spend money hiring a few workers or take in some serfs. Those workers and serfs have their own homes, their own clothes, their own families to cook for them, and, most importantly, if they starve to death, it doesn’t concern you."
"You can exploit workers and serfs much better than slaves. Slaves have nothing you can exploit."
She held up her hands, and smiled wickedly. "The systems of serfdom and guilds can be considered some of the greatest inventions."
"Much superior to slavery."
Ivita chuckled, her words were not technically wrong. It was because of this that slavery was eventually phased out.
To return an essentially unimportant thing like dignity back to the people, and then exploit them economically and through power. This is the primary reason why societies transitioned from slavery to feudalism.
Ivita told Jackson, "Have your people clean them up a bit, I don’t want to be followed around by stinking persons."
"Then you can show us your mirrors."
Jackson, having made a sale, was beaming. "Alright."
"We originally offer a service to clean up the slaves for our customers. It’s been a long time since these slaves had a bath; I can barely stand it myself."
At this point, Jackson almost seemed to be talking about pigs, cows, and sheep, causing Ivita to exclaim in surprise.
