Chapter 919: Volume 29, Sword Energy Pointing from Afar, Chapter 13: The Arrival of the Wind
Komer’s mind burgeoned with countless doubts, but now it seemed too late. Welch, that old, cunning fellow, might also be very happy to see this situation arise. He had already stirred a mess within the Church of Light, and now was the perfect time to reap the benefits. The combined forces within the Church of Light challenging the rapidly rising Komer was, seemingly, also of no disadvantage to him.
Komer couldn’t just watch as circumstances developed unfavorably for him; he took a deep breath. How to deal with the impending crisis? The war was like an arrow on the bowstring, already notched and without any space to turn back. The Union Mage Squad had grown strong enough to contend with any mage force, even those from the Church of Light, especially when they were not perfectly unified in their command. However, it was equally difficult for the Union Mage Squad to manage the assault power of the knights.
Perhaps the not-yet-fully-formed Black Flame Knights would have to step into the limelight. Besides recruiting Three fallen knights, two Dark knights from the Rosenborg Kingdom had joined this knight regiment, along with Vladimir Koff. It could be barely said to have taken shape. Komer had always hoped that the Black Flame Knights could head to the southern region to earnestly recruit like-minded companions, but now it seemed it was too late. This newly born dark power had to fight for the dignity of the Dark Lineage.
The situation developed faster than Komer had imagined. When Komer had just received news from Quke Valley that Livonia had canceled the Caucasus privileges in Quke Valley and began stationing young niece patrol troops, the Galleians on the front lines opposite Plovdiv also started to stir.
The milk-white banner bore a blue dove poised as if to take flight, come to life as the flag waved, the dove seemed to leap through the air as if a divine bird descending from the skies; alongside was a starkly contrasting dark banner, where golden oak leaves sparkled against the pure black fabric. The addition of these two armies alongside the Galleians’ Lotus Flag made the nobles’ private armies look somewhat chaotic; although their numbers were considerable, they were clustered beside the main forces, evidently more inclined to be cheerleaders.
Komer coldly raised the Mirror of Thousand Miles, observing the situation on the other side.
The Galleians displayed a knightly demeanor, having sent a challenge to Komer’s camp a day in advance. An unavoidable battle was about to unfold. Although scouts had not yet brought news regarding the Sky Peng Knights and Thunderhorse Knights, Komer was already certain that these two knightly forces would launch an attack along with the three regular armies, but their most elite units were concealed somewhere, ready to demonstrate their extraordinary powers at the most crucial moment. With their sharp fangs, they would tear through the Homer—Caucasus line or perhaps capture the leaders in one fell swoop, solving the problem of the core members, including himself.
After putting down the Mirror of Thousand Miles, Komer stretched his muscles. This battle would determine not only his fate but also that of the entire Caucasus—Homer—Poznan Territory. To ensure the survival of these three territories, he must at least achieve a no-loss situation in this battle; this was both a lord’s responsibility and destiny.
Komer had handed over all command authority of the battlefield to Fran, trusting that Fran’s command on the battlefield was much superior to his own. He was not one of those tedious nobles who were satisfied simply by giving orders on the battlefield for a sense of achievement; he sought a tangible victory, though it might not be according to his wishes.
He would wholeheartedly appear as a mage among the Union Mage Squad, shouldering the core strength of the mage regiment, ready to teach a firm and profound lesson to those Church of Light knights and mages who dared to provoke his dignity.
The Black Crystal Staff glittered in his hands, the black magic flames lightly circulating within the crystal scepter, indicating that the Mana was at its fullest state. Komer had never felt himself in such good condition; it was as if the immense pressure from the opposition had stirred the explosive desire hidden deep within his heart. The Bear in the Cosmic Bag was awakening from its slumber, and Komer could feel its restlessness.
Rebry and his group had already spread across the camp in small clusters at various strategic locations to prevent any sudden attacks from the Church of Light knights and mage forces. Clarence, Sheferley, and Newman teamed up in one location, Rebry and Mihailovich in another, Giovanni led several Dark Mages as one group, while Komer stood with Uma at the forefront of the camp.
Iliana’s Holy Heart had been completely suppressed by Uma’s Heart of Darkness, Despite Uma’s various abrasive methods, such as saturation, corrosion, grinding, and subtle transformation, the Dark Magic Power had entirely eroded Iliana’s saintly heart. However, that last bit of purity never extinguished. Uma and Komer had studied it multiple times without figuring out a solution. It could only be said that Iliana’s devotion to the God of Light was ingrained in her bones, her understanding of the Holy Power etched into her heart. Perhaps, to completely erase her mark of Light, they truly needed to destroy her physically. This was something both Komer and Uma were quite dissatisfied with, yet for the moment, they couldn’t find a suitable way to deal with this problem.
However, this no longer affected Uma’s free use of this body. From the unintentional charm and allure Uma displayed, one could tell that she had gradually begun to regard this body as her own, slowly recapturing the feminine allure she had three hundred years ago.
The sound of horns and drumbeats seemed to rise at the same time, the ground seemed to tremble slightly, millions of boots hitting the ground, merging into a thick footprint stomping on the earth, the land expressed its burden with a mournful wail. The banners pointed to the sky in an instant, the flags making a satisfying fluttering sound in the air, lances like forests, Tower Shields like mountains, the air of slaying at this moment solidified into sharpness rushing towards each other, about to collide.
Komer gently breathed in to let his body slowly levitate, the magic flight technique at a certain level also had the ability to hover, although this required a higher mastery of Wind Element Power, but for Komer, this wasn’t an issue. Before his eyes, the dark expanses of the camps came into view, Fran, closely surrounded by guards at the high mobile command tower, occupied such a high position to observe the situation which was undeniably risky, although he was protected by mages and knights, he was still quite vulnerable to an attack by Magical Power.
In the high sky, the silhouette of the Thunder Peng circled, barely visible, if one did not observe carefully, it would be hard to spot the figure clinging tightly to the Thunder Peng. The Thunder Peng Knights were also one of the main trumps for Komer to dare such a robust response in this battle; the best way to deal with mages was a lightning-like raid, to deliver a fatal blow before they could react. To achieve this, only the Thunder Peng Knight had this capability, the ferocious attack and lightning speed, coupled with the airborne assault, Komer believed the Thunder Peng Knights could greatly alleviate his own burden in this battle.
Fran’s formation was still a classic semi-circular formation, only embedded within it, with the Rock Corps as the main unit, hid the Furious Wave Corps, and within the Furious Wave Corps lay the Earth Dragon Assault Camp as the breakthrough cluster’s fist strength. One battle to compete for full success was Fran’s idea, provided that Komer could fully suppress the enemy mages and knights’ onslaught.
Looking at the opposing side, the United Army had adopted a wedge-shaped formation, the spike’s assault force was likely the Nirvana Knights of the Galleian, directly opposite to their own deployment at the top of the arc, the Homer Knights, their next duel would prove who was the most ace Knight Order in Nicosia. Komer could assert that there definitely were assisting Church Knights on either side of the Nirvana Knights; the Mirror of Thousand Miles had already shown some figures whose attire was markedly different from the surrounding Nirvana Knights and Blue Dove Corps soldiers, it was clear, they were preparing for a forceful breakthrough in the center, to completely shatter their own central line, initiating a comprehensive collapse of their defensive morale.
The sight of the Mirror of Thousand Miles was still slowly moving within the enemy camps, Komer was trying to identify those who might opt for specific methods to demonstrate their special abilities, he knew it was difficult to spot them now, but he didn’t want to give up; the sooner he spotted their traces, the sooner he could take measures to gain the initiative, especially under the circumstances where his conventional forces held an absolute advantage, Komer absolutely couldn’t allow the enemy to achieve their goal through unconventional means, which was wishful thinking!
Like rolling waves, jumping figures now and then appeared and disappeared in Komer’s field of vision, a glint flashed in Komer’s eyes, a familiar figure entered his gaze, Trajan?! The Heavenly Peng Knights had finally appeared! Komer felt somewhat assured, this guy was actually hidden among the right flank’s Golden Oak Legion; if not for his deeply ingrained image of him, if not for the special effect of the Mirror of Thousand Miles, Komer knew he wouldn’t have been able to do this.
Two black lines were slowly pushing forward, like two slowly rolling angry waves advancing toward the shore, a wide, flat plain was slowly engulfed by the tides of soldiers from both sides. The plain gradually turned into a narrow strip, as suddenly the sound of golden drums started to intensify fiercely, a dueling sonata was about to commence!
