Chapter 918: Volume 29, Remote Pointing of Sword Qi, Chapter 12: Immense Pressure

Kent’s face was also a picture of solemnity, "Those who dare to challenge the God of Light shall face destruction."

"Sir Kent, presumably you are aware that Mr. Komer is not as simple as we imagined. I have heard that the Thunderhorse Knights have had encounters with him as well," Trajan said, his eyes probing.

"Hmm, several years ago when I led a number of Thunderhorse Knights on a mission, we came across an Undead Mage. However, the opponent was cunning and eluded our search. We suspect this Undead Mage is Komer, but we do not have solid evidence. The Thunderhorse Knights conducted a very discreet reconnaissance in the Caucasus and, although they found his relationship with the Dark Forces to be ambiguous, they did not uncover any conclusive evidence," said Kent, without any attempt to conceal, as there was nothing worth hiding.

"The cause of Magician Malone’s death has never been thoroughly investigated. Assassinations in a forbidden place like Versailles are truly unacceptable. However, we have reason to believe that Malone’s death is related to Komer," said Trajan, who had already reviewed in detail all intelligence concerning Komer after the fact. "This man’s identity and role are quite enigmatic, not only does he possess the ability to cast Mixed Magic, but he also excels in some insidious methods, such as Malone’s death being due to a Magic Crossbow Arrow."

"Oh?" This was the first Kent had heard of it, and it sent a chill through his heart. It seemed rare to see real powerhouses who were skilled in both magic and martial arts, yet Komer’s performance was not inferior to that of a true powerhouse.

"In dealing with such a person, we cannot stick rigidly to the knight’s code of conduct, especially when we face a real war. We cannot be restricted by some trifling rules," said Trajan meditatively.

Kent knew this was Trajan reminding him. His uncompromising and rigid character was well-known within the Church of Light, but facing the final battle between light and darkness, would he still maintain his rigidity?

Taking a deep breath, Kent nodded firmly, "Thank you for your kind reminder, Sir Trajan. As a Demon Exterminating Light Knight, I am bound by duty. As for the means, I know my limits."

Trajan sighed silently. This Heavenly Knight, who was considered his equal, had flaws in his character that were too apparent. Being straightforward was good, but being overly conservative and stuck in one’s ways was not suitable for the leader of a Knight Order, to the point of being out of touch. This also meant that his position in the Pericles Church was not high and did not receive the appreciation of Archbishop Frenster, and there were even secret rumors that Heavenly Knights Douglas and Iso were in fierce competition. The victor might very well replace Kent as the new leader of the Thunderhorse Knight Order. Trajan hoped this opportunity would help Kent reaffirm his position, but it seemed that Kent did not care for such matters.

However, Trajan was satisfied. With the support of the power of the Pericles Church, he did not believe there was anything that could stop his path of revenge. The only thing he regretted was that Michelangelo was too severely injured to come out and witness this war of vengeance. The flames of revenge had already been ignited in Trajan’s heart.

Intelligence from the West confirmed the Anson family’s prediction: both the Blue Dove Corps and the Golden Oak Legion had emerged within Galle’s borders. It seemed Galle was gearing up for war on a grand scale, with an increase in the number of Galle infantry and frequent adjustments to the Nirvana Knights. Thankfully, the Bohemian Magic Knight Group had not been drawn into this conflict. Forced to leave Gutenberg, Blamonte had returned to Prague, and Komer’s preemptively placed chess pieces finally began to take effect.

But worse developments had occurred. The beastmen had suddenly contracted their forces, satisfied with their current gains and in need of rest. Their aggressions towards the East and South ceased suddenly. On the surface, this appeared to be a temporary adjustment, yet Komer smelled a conspiracy in the air.

Komer was well aware of the tenuous connection between the Church of Light and the upper echelons of the beastmen. Despite the lack of concrete evidence, he firmly believed a special link existed between them. It was clear neither the Vazinsky clan nor the Religious Court had the power to influence the decisions of the beastmen’s upper echelons. That left the Pope and the Frenster clan. If even Julius II was involved in such affairs, Komer would have no choice but to concede defeat and withdraw. Although the likelihood was slim, the involvement of the Frenster clan posed an ominous question: what would their interference bring?

Komer felt a chill in his heart. If the Pericles Church clan got involved as well, the situation could turn perilous. He certainly held absolute advantage in terms of armed forces, but with the support of the Blue Dove and Golden Oak legions, Galle had gained enough strength for a battle. If formidable Church knights from orders like the Sky Peng Knights and the Thunderhorse Knights sided with the Nirvana Knights against his own camp, the situation could spiral out of control. Considering the potential impact of powerhouses like Trajan and Kent entering the Battlefield, the thought alone was unbearable.

While this was a worst-case scenario, Komer could not afford to ignore the possibility of such grim outcomes. This was a war that would decide the fate of Nicosia. The phrase "to the victor belong the spoils" echoed in his mind countless times, but the oft-forgotten corollary "the vanquished shall become the condemned" seldom came to anyone’s thoughts.

The Homer Knight Order might just manage to withstand the Nirvana Knights, but if the Sky Peng Knights and the Thunderhorse Knights also joined in, his own side would lack the power to resist. And to imagine that conventional forces like the Rock Corps and the Furious Wave Corps could thwart these Church knights, even at a great cost, was hardly conceivable.

Should such a situation arise, the only force capable of suppressing these two powers would be his control over the Union Mage Corps. And if the Sky Peng Knights and the Thunderhorse Knights truly intervened, would the Church’s mage forces just stand by? Clearly, that was impossible.

The balance of the war was starting to tip against him. If he did not adjust his forces in time, the outcome he hoped for might just fall apart. The question now was how he could avert the looming crisis? Komer strove to calm his thoughts: the Salvation Society? What were those fellows from the Salvation Society doing? Weren’t they supposed to be restraining the Church’s forces? Why had the Church’s power suddenly emerged so prominently?
