Chapter 920: Volume 29, Chapter 14: Distant Sword Qi Strike
Trajan suppressed the excitement in his heart, telling himself that a somewhat simple wartime scene like this should not have stirred his emotions. However, when he thought about how the battle at Marco Fortress ended for him in such a manner, he felt an indescribable depression. The opportunity had come so swiftly that the thought of using this battle to wash away the disgrace, to inflict damage on the opponent, filled Trajan with unspeakable excitement. As long as he could face those people directly, Trajan was willing to pay the price in blood once again.
The three advancing armies began to quicken their pace gradually as Trajan, hidden in the gaps between the forces, lightly leaped among the undulating waves of the soldiers. Leveraging the moments he was aloft, he observed the changing situation within the enemy camp, which was surprisingly well-ordered. Under Komer, those barbarians had become so disciplined, which astonished Trajan. Having the ability to crush the Poznan Army with a bolt from the blue, they indeed must possess some skills. However, in this battle, the Light Knights would make him keenly aware that not everything could be solved with the brute courage of the barbarians.
Trajan was of course aware of the strength of the Homer Knight Order’s Lecler, but even Lecler alone was not enough to change the situation for either side. Even if there were some dark warriors aiding the enemy, apart from the Heavenly Peng Knights, there were also Thunderhorse Knights concealed among their own ranks. This time, no matter what tricks Komer had up his sleeve, all his schemes would turn to ash in the face of absolute power.
Kent led his knights to lie quietly within the ranks. He seemed very calm, though the golden drums were beating and the battle flags were flying, the knights around him were already stirred into a surge of murderous fervor. For Kent, however, all of this was merely a prelude to the actual combat. Only by maintaining a cool mind could one strike a fatal blow at the most opportune moment.
Komer wouldn’t rashly send his men over so easily. While the ferocity of the barbarian armies was well known, and even though his own side had done a remarkably thorough job in preserving secrecy, Kent did not believe that cunning old man would be ignorant of everything and let his guard down. Over the years, even though the persistent monitoring and reconnaissance by the Thunderhorse Knights had failed to uncover anything valuable from that man, his vigilance and wisdom were evident. Given the immensity and diversity of his own side’s current coalition, how could that man be completely unaware?
Kent absolutely did not believe it. And once the opponent became aware of the situation on their side, what kind of response and arrangements would they make? Contemplating this question sent a chill through Kent’s heart; this battle could very well be a war where neither side could predict the outcome.
Komer’s cold face grew even more stern, his arms crossed in front of him. He no longer had the interest in using the Mirror of Thousand Miles for scouting; the decisive battle was at hand. All strength would be revealed in this moment, stepping into the limelight with nothing held back. Only a complete victory in an all-out battle would allow the victorious side to survive, while the defeated would inevitably become spoils of war.
"Magic-armed guns, ready!" Seeing the orderly enemy formation pressing closer, and the Mage power in their camp openly beginning to converge—evidently prepping for a grand magical battle—Komer forcefully slammed his black crystal staff onto the ground, sending a Magic Transmission to Fran, who was stationed at the top of a distant moving wooden tower.
Two massive Magic-armed gun cannon barrels were being swiftly cranked by metallic gears, the dark barrels slowly rising, like hellish black holes ready to devour souls. The large scopes mounted on the Magic-armed guns were clearly improved from the Mirror of Thousand Miles, allowing a clear observation of the precise shooting area and coverage through the scope’s coordinates. This would be the first time Magic-armed guns were utilized in land warfare.
A few operators began to frantically calculate the shooting elements and gauge of the Magic-armed guns, while Magic Crystal Stone Powder was added to help increase the Magic Power of the weapons. The cumbersome gun carriages had already been mounted on four-wheeled movable wooden carriages, and a great number of Magic Prohibitions were used around them to prevent the enemy from discovering and damaging them. However, Komer knew these measures were merely a token gesture. Once discovered by the opponent, a barrage of magic attacks would likely rain down, and these Magic Prohibitions would be the equivalent of trying to douse a fire with a cup of water, utterly unable to withstand the assault of such powerful magic.
This was the Magic-armed gun Komer painstakingly created, intended for Hayreddin’s naval fleet. Just as they were about to be loaded onto the ship, they were removed and then carefully transported by boat to the front lines of Plovdiv. This time, it would witness history being made.
But the precision requirements for this type of Magic-armed gun were incredibly high, and it was too cumbersome with too long an interval between firings. Komer had once considered using this behemoth in land warfare but ultimately abandoned the idea. With so much effort, it would be better spent on training the Army, possibly yielding much better results.
Fran watched nervously at the front, the Mirror of Thousand Miles brought everything within a few thousand meters right in front of him. He would issue the order for the first strike, and the Magic-armed gun would deliver a "surprise" to the accursed Galleians and Godeborgians—a surprise they would never be able to imagine.
As Fran’s hand switched from the Green Flag to the Red Flag and pressed down fiercely, under the watchful eyes of countless puzzled onlookers, the ten operators finally completed the complex adjustment process. Two different types of Magic Crystal Stone Powder were injected through two separate channels. Eventually, the Magic Crystal Stone Powder converged in the hourglass-shaped reaction chamber beneath the barrel. The intense reaction caused the incredibly sturdy chamber to tremble quickly, with massive Magic Power flowing through the conduit into the cannon barrel. Meanwhile, the firing pin beside the barrel struck just at the right moment. The Magic Powers transmitted by the collision of vastly different Magic Metals cleverly merged with the power released by the Magic Crystal Stone Powder, releasing it all at once through the barrel.
There was no special sound, but almost everyone could feel that the space around the two Magic-armed guns seemed to pause for a moment, with the spatial image appearing to twist somehow. An indescribable light erupted from the muzzle, and in that brief instant, it seemed as if the entire space had stopped.
