Chapter 796: Volume 24: Beacon Fires Link the Camps, Chapter 8: Impulse is the Devil_2
Compared to more routine necromantic creatures such as Black Warriors and Undead Knights, Iliana didn’t feel particularly fearful. Having spent a long time in seclusion within the Church of Light, she had little understanding of mechanisms akin to Metal Magic Dolls and Puppet Bone Pythons, nor did she know how much of a threat these unfamiliar beings posed. However, even with just the Giant Zombie, Iliana knew that the battle ahead would be an extremely arduous confrontation!
"Blaze Burning Sky" had clearly weakened the wall of fire that it had conjured, and although it was still advancing forward, Komer could distinctly feel the pressure from the opposite side gradually diminishing. Mihailovich and Uma’s surprise troops had finally started to prove their worth. Just a bit longer, and it would be their turn to teach the ignorant Homer Army a severe lesson.
Indeed, the Royal Court Magicians and the three Light Saints were now facing an unprecedented challenge. They could no longer focus on the Fire Magic Array that was on the brink of achieving a complete victory because their own safety was under serious threat.
Maldono’s Detection Magic finally locked onto the elusive target at the last moment. A series of Heavenly Sacred Flame magics brightly illuminated the area where Uma was hiding, and the light released by the Heavenly Sacred Flame enveloped everything within a radius of thirty feet, making anything foul and dark have nowhere to hide. The Sacred Flame penetrated all external barriers and pierced deep into Uma’s body.
The intense sensation of burning made Uma almost howl in agony, not having felt such pain in a long time. During the battle at Damarlinsk Castle where she met Komer, she had tasted this flavor, but it was nothing compared to the severity of this moment. It was as if lava was coursing through her body, subjecting Uma’s soul to what seemed like hellfire. Painful, yet alive, Uma felt this peculiar sensation. After more than three hundred years of quiescence, Uma finally experienced this profound and tangible feeling. Although she wasn’t satisfied with her current body, the torment of her soul could at last be released through the nerves of her flesh – a wonderful feeling, a pain that pierced to the marrow but was utterly real, almost heavenly compared to the pure ordeal of the soul.
Of course, Uma also knew how much damage the purification of the Sacred Flame would do to her Dark Origin. Aside from continuously conjuring a dark shield to withstand the erosion of the Heavenly Sacred Flame, she had no choice but to rely on the power she wielded to protect herself.
The Undead Knight raised its lance at the first opportunity to block the Light Saint who sought to continue casting spells, with its lance cutting through the firmament, trailed by a dense miasma of death. The Ghost Warhorse effortlessly leaped through mid-air, sweeping towards Maldono’s position with the imposing might of a boundless gale.
Maldono’s agile figure accomplished a spatial transfer in an instant, as though he had never been there. The enveloping miasma caused the surrounding greenery to instantly wither and darken, losing their vitality in that moment. As if by natural attraction, without any pause, the Ghost Warhorse artfully sidestepped, and the lance shook off a multitude of dark rings, sweeping a dense succession at the Light Saint who had just grounded himself.
Maldono was surprised at his opponent’s strength. Although he had never encountered such an Undead Knight, he had some understanding of them and was confident that he could handle three alone with ease. He had not expected the Necromancer Knight to react so swiftly, scarcely giving him any chance to act fully. This indicated how formidable the Knight’s innate abilities must have been in life. From where had this Necromancer obtained so many and such powerful original beings?
A series of seals unfolded with Maldono’s gestures, creating an illusion of momentary stasis in space, a harbinger of the spatial plane being compressed. The onrushing Undead Knight seemed to plunge into a quagmire, its speed and momentum both suddenly sticking as if bogged down, abruptly becoming as sluggish as the pace of an old man. Every step taken, every motion, was unusually slow and arduous.
Space Seal?! Uma’s eyes flashed with an even stranger light, recognizing that the Church of Light indeed had some talents. This Light Saint’s mastery of Space Magic was so profound that they resorted to using a Space Seal to deal with her summoned creature. It filled Uma with a sense of prideful satisfaction, knowing that her own Undead Knight could force the opponent to use such a rare form of Space Magic. Although the scale of the Space Seal was small, it was sufficient for self-comfort.
But soon, Uma was engulfed by extreme rage. Along with the Space Seal came a series of Holy Light Balls that completely shattered the Necromancer Knight. No matter how frantically the Necromancer Knight struggled, it was firmly compressed within a stagnant space by the Space Seal, utterly immobilized. The Holy Light Balls, imbued with Holy Light Power, burrowed into the bodies of the Ghost Demon Horse and the Necromancer Knight one by one, exploding with milky white radiance. The thick aura of darkness intertwined with the milky light of Holy Light Power, and the crackling sounds of explosions were incessant.
Amidst Uma’s endless roar, the Necromancer Knight finally reached the end of its brief existence. Each Holy Light Ball was infused with Maldono’s Light Blessing and Mana. The fundamental repulsion granted the Holy Light Balls maximal lethality against such dark creatures, watching every bone of the Ghost Demon Horse and the Undead Knight burst open, with billows of ash-grey smoke slowly spreading.
Blind with rage, Uma no longer cared about possibly attracting a direct strike from the opponent’s Light Divine Technique. Her grief for her magical creature nearly drove her mad. A shadowy figure flashed up from the ground, and alongside it, a faint silhouette shot from another direction.
A haughty smile spread across Maldono’s lips. This wretched Necromancer, at last, could no longer restrain himself. He would completely destroy each of his summoned creatures one by one to see what other tricks he still had up his sleeve. Maldono’s status as a Light Saint in the Church of Light wasn’t given for nothing—it was a signature honed through countless tests and challenges within the Marco court.
A series of Space Seals once again shimmered into existence in the air, locking down every angle and position from which Uma could possibly approach. At the same time, Maldono’s other hand quietly rested on the belt beneath his robe. As Uma’s speed started slowing down while maneuvering in space, the sinister smile on Maldono’s lips became even more apparent.
"Damn spawn of darkness, in the name of the God of Light, I summon you, to the depths of hell you go!" Suddenly he pulled out a scroll from his waist and it unfurled in the wind, Maldono’s eyes gleaming with mocking triumph. As the pearly white scroll slowly opened, a beam of jade light soared into the sky, and at that moment, the entire spatial plane rippled with a hint of cloud-colored ripples that quickly spread in all directions.
Uma realized immediately how foolish her impulsiveness had been. Testing the law with her own body was undoubtedly fatal for her half-formed entity still not fully rooted in the Dark Origin. As soon as she saw the sneer at the corner of that man’s lips, Uma knew something bad was about to happen. Trapped within the Space Seal, she could no longer flee with the speed she had arrived, and now she had no choice but to face this imminent devastating strike.
