Chapter 797: Volume 24, Beacon Fires Link the Camps, Chapter 9, Mutual Destruction
A series of powerful enhancement and defense magics instantly formed around Uma’s body. Even though the Space Seal imposed significant constraints on him, it could not prevent him from protecting himself. At this moment, Uma had abandoned any hope for luck, realizing that the Church of Light’s ability to completely annihilate the Dark Holy Church years ago was no fluke. Its formidable strength, even after so many years, was evident.
As soon as the white jade scroll unfurled, a huge disturbance swept through the space. Beams of light flowed and expanded in an instant, quickly forming a massive vortex of Light Mist that firmly locked Uma, still struggling, at its center. The Light Mist began to whirl rapidly, and the shrill sound produced by its friction with the air almost pierced the eardrums.
The powerful infiltrating force, like a cocoon, wrapped around Uma tighter and tighter, with each layer more distinct than the last. Uma, who considered himself to possess the most formidable Sky Demon Cover among the dark forces, still could not resist the infiltration of the light magic power. The intense erosion peeled away at the Sky Demon Cover’s dark magic power layer by layer, which was unimaginable for Uma. His pride in the eroding and absorbing power of darkness was astonishingly turned against him by the power of light, a phenomenon that was rather bizarre.
But now, Uma could not afford to ponder what sort of magic the opponent had released from the magic scroll; the urgent matter was how to resist the light magic power still seeping into his body. If this exceptionally pure light magic power were to reach the core of his origin, it would be the end of him, both soul and body. Although his last resort had been activated, Uma realized too late the gravity of his mistake. The magic had been initiated through the magic scroll, drawing all its mana from the scroll itself and not from the mage. Under normal circumstances, this would be inconsequential, but in this situation, it proved fatal. Regret, however, seemed a little too late now.
Maldono’s smile had not yet fully faded when he sensed something unusual in his surroundings. Ever cautious, he had already positioned monitoring magic around himself. When a dark presence appeared ten meters behind him, he knew another demon was about to attack him.
A series of Light Shields were released around him, wrapping Maldono’s body securely within. At the same time, the prudent Maldono still resorted to the Spatial Transfer Technique, a swift transfer which could avoid direct attacks by the enemy to the greatest extent and ease the burden on his protective spell shields. Maldono thought he had considered all the worst possibilities, but he soon found that he had underestimated the Undead Summoner, who seemed to be on the verge of surrender.
The small but agile figure swept past Maldono like a whirlwind, and as Maldono marveled at his opponent’s precise tracking and pursuit skills, he was horrified to discover that his proud defensive Light Shield had been silently breached by the assailant’s strike!
Despite the pain from the oppressive Light Mist penetrating him, Uma couldn’t help but crack a slight smile. The strength of the Soul Eating Gnome was not something that one or two protective shields could withstand. Its invincible hands, refined through the sand of vengeful spirits countless times, could easily penetrate even solid physical defenses, let alone ordinary magic shields.
Maldono paid a heavy price for his arrogance. He had not taken the shadow accompanying Uma seriously, and the Soul Eating Gnome’s cunning attack almost cost him his life that round. Without a doubt, that silent strike pierced through his triple magic shields. Although the shields imbued with Holy Light Power underwent three cleansings of holy light, it was not enough to stop that fierce blow!
Tumbling to the ground as if in a spin, clumps of black blood spewed from Maldono’s gaping mouth, his pale face with eyes wide like dead fish, as the spark of life rapidly drained away.
Just as Maldono was on the brink of death, Uma was also paying the price for his impulsiveness. The powerful net of light magic had him firmly trapped, and the tightening light net was like invisible shackles deeply cutting into Uma’s body. Each strand was like a searing hot needle piercing deep into his very origin, scorching his dark core.
When Komer received the distress signal from Uma, he had already successfully subdued the wall of fire with the Wrath of the Water God. Before he could even catch his breath, Uma’s call for help was imprinted on his brain, and Komer understood Uma’s predicament in an instant.
The Supreme Light Sky Net!
The awkward name, originated from some ancient tome, seemed quite a mouthful, but it was nevertheless an undisputed holy technique of light magic from the Church of Light. No wonder that fool was caught in it so hopelessly!
Sighing inwardly, Komer couldn’t help feeling bitter about his misfortune in allies. It was not easy to entrust such a heavy task to this fellow. Just as victory seemed within reach, they encountered such a nuisance. Obviously, it was this fool’s exposure of his true form that gave the opponent the chance to capture him in the net. Otherwise, no matter how formidable the Supreme Light Sky Net was, it would not have been possible to release it aimlessly without a target.
The problem was, once the Supreme Light Sky Net was deployed, breaking free from it was almost impossible. This pure Holy Light Technique was a weapon tailor-made explicitly for the Undead, offering no hope of escape once ensnared. Had it not been for the body he provided, which could still offer some protection, Uma would have already been scattered to the winds in the light net.
Uma needed a passage, and only by opening a route for him could he escape from the clutches of the light net. But under such circumstances, how could one carve out such a path? Komer knew that there wasn’t much time left. The battlefield had reached a stalemate, and as the magical contest between both sides entered a standoff phase, it was time for the actual combat forces to take the stage—this was the true battlefield!
He gestured for Clarence, still somewhat pale-faced, to come over. After a brief whisper, a look of unbelievable ecstasy appeared on Clarence’s face. The sudden excitement was almost too much for him to believe, and the intense thrill even made his whole body tremble uncontrollably. He believed that Komer could not possibly be deceiving him at this moment, unquestionably, although it required him to take considerable risks. Clarence thought it was entirely worth it.
