Chapter 794: Volume 24: Beacon Fires Link the Camps, Chapter 7: Supreme of the Undead

The immense power unleashed by Blaze Burning Sky made Komer’s Wrath of the Water God seem a bit too insignificant. Although Komer’s desperate resistance caused the Wrath of the Water God to churn up several meters high waves roaring towards the fire wall, it was clearly no match for the Fire Magic Array supported by several Archmages. As the waves neared the fire wall, they immediately turned into a vast expanse of white steam, and the whole front was almost completely engulfed in a warm, steaming mist.

Komer looked at the advancing red fire wall with some pain, fully sustaining the Wrath of the Water God had already exhausted him, but the opponent’s power was too strong. His own power might surpass any single one of the strong adversaries, but to contend head-on with so many of them clearly was beyond his reach.

Nevertheless, the power of the Wrath of the Water God was not without effect, as it significantly slowed down the advancement of the fire wall, allowing Fran to make a quick and reasonable decision, enabling the infantry formation to immediately take a steady retreat backward, avoiding the encroaching flames. Komer knew, however, that such a situation wouldn’t last long. Once his mana was depleted, the fire wall would rapidly pour forward, and by then, not only would the infantry formation be unable to escape, but his own party would also be in considerable danger.

Now, all hope rested entirely on Mihailovich’s Metal Magic Dolls and Uma’s undead power. In fact, the Metal Magic Dolls, against magicians possessing powerful magic, were unlikely to pose a significant threat, but if they were to be involved in the battles against knight regiments or infantry formations, that’s where they could best exert their might. And for those self-proclaimed limitless mages, perhaps the undead were indeed their worst nightmare.

In fact, Uma had been lurking near the Nikosia Kingdom Royal Mage Corps, at a straight-line distance of less than thirty meters, always watching, especially the Veiled Saintess in the center. The Detection Magic used on the Veiled Saintess had several times alerted the opponent, but Uma was very careful. He knew those fellows from the Church of Light were extremely sensitive to the aura of spirits from the Dark Abyss, and any slight mistake would lead to his detection. His detection magic had not utilized any dark power at all, relying solely on Spiritual Power to probe, but even so, the opposing party’s nearly intuitive perception was constantly searching the surroundings, evidently trying to locate him as well.

Uma greedily observed and assessed his target, that damn Light Mage standing by the side repeatedly foiling his attempts to view the graceful Veiled Lady from all angles. The youthful appearance of the Church of Light’s Saintess seemed to suggest that she might be under thirty years old, but the composure she exhibited led Uma to realize that she was no fledgling, which only added to the challenge.

Only after that somewhat obsequious Light Mage left did Uma finally relax. That annoying Light Mage was no easy target either, the power contained within his body prompted Uma to prefer waiting a bit longer rather than acting rashly. The Church of Light wouldn’t deploy any mediocre personnel; he didn’t want to risk capsizing in the gutter.

Uma had not expected that his waiting would bring an unexpected change. The large-scale Fire Magic Array, Blaze Burning Sky, suddenly enveloped two elite infantry formations from the Caucasus. When Komer’s disheveled voice came through via Magic Transmission, Uma knew that Komer was on the verge of a breaking point. If he did not make an impressive display soon, even if he managed to take possession of the Veiled Saintess’s body, Komer might not fulfill his wish to transplant his soul into the body of the Veiled Saintess.

"Invocation of the Gods: You undead soaked in the Dark Abyss, now be released from your shackles. I command thee to slaughter, go!" Unable to delay any longer, Uma could feel the extraordinary heat from Blaze Burning Sky even while hidden in the mud. Those barbarians and half-beastmen stood no chance against such hellish magic fire, hardly able to escape. Komer alone could not hold out against the power of the Fire Magic Array with mere water magic. To break out of this predicament, one had to cut the weed at its roots, dealing with those casting the magic once and for all!

A dim mist silently formed above the mud, so stealthy and ghostly that the Light Mages of the Church of Light, immersed in the pleasure of casting magic, nearly missed it entirely. Fortunately, not everyone had been completely consumed by the joy of anticipated victory. As the almost imperceptible dark essence began to emerge, the sensitive Light Saintess sensed the advent of a crisis.

The gloomy mist thickened, almost solidifying into clouds in just a matter of seconds. Iliana’s clear eyes were firmly fixed on the clumps of black mist on the verge of materialization. The strong scent of darkness made her realize that only at this moment were they facing the real challenge.

The first giant figure to emerge from the cloud of black mist made Iliana’s heart involuntarily contract—a woman of vast experience, she recognized at a glance the three-meter-tall black figure. Her bright eyes flickered with a trace of anxiety. It had been a long time since she had felt this way. A giant spirit? This race, almost on par with gods, had long since vanished from this world yet here it stood before her, and she could clearly see its slightly stiff movements. It was clearly a giant zombie conjured by an undead mage!

Then another equally large giant zombie emerged from the dark mist, gripping a long-armed double-edged axe, likely of the same make as the short-handle twin axe wielded by the first. The dark axe blade, as if encountering air for the first time, was wet with moisture. Their aimless gaze followed the stiff twist of their enormous heads, seemingly searching for a target. As soon as the two zombie giants’ gaze settled on Iliana, they steadied, and her heart tensed yet again—obviously, the summoner had locked onto her as his target.

"Onia, Salianco, Maldono, be careful. Undead are appearing around us! Maldono, scan the east with detection magic—that damned summoner must be hiding there. Onia, keep an eye on the surrounding mist; more undead will be emerging soon!" Having said all this in one breath, Iliana realized that several flickering netherworld fires had also appeared quietly, and accompanying these flames, two imposing figures of black warriors emerged as well.
