Chapter 687: Volume Nineteen: Lost Horizon Chapter Fifteen: Setting the Stage at the Doorstep_2
The sheathed thrusting sword nearly glided into the air in an instant, its fluid motion devoid of any superfluity. In midair, the stiletto shimmered with myriad specks of light, and the suddenly erupting Fighting Qi caused the frost-cold blade to unexpectedly grow by three feet in a flash. The brilliant light flickered unstably, and as the Fighting Qi burst forth from the stiletto, it thrust forward rapidly through the air, its fierce friction producing a piercing shriek. A sky full of Sword Qi whipped up endless winds and clouds, the specks of light densely converging into an all-encompassing light net aiming to entirely envelop Komer.
With a flick of his fingers, a silent Dark Shield materialized in front of Komer. He was also curious to test the extent of his power after surviving the ordeal in the Different World’s void. His powerful Dark Magic Power allowed Komer to conjure it effortlessly, without any need for spells—an unfathomable feat in the past.
The dense specks of light striking the Dark Shield immediately caused it to tremble violently, the fierce collision of forces distorting the air with a strange twist. The Dark Shield fractured after withstanding only a few blows, yet before it shattered, Komer had already released his blinding spell in an instant.
Startled, Katrina hastily retracted her flashing stiletto, drawing around herself a magnificent curtain of light for protection. She realized she had been careless this time, not expecting a bard to actually be a concealed master. Although her intuition told her that the other party seemed to have no intention of targeting her directly, relying on her intuition was never Katrina’s style. She preferred to control others’ fates.
The opponent’s sudden disappearance made Katrina aware that she was facing an unfathomable Mage. Although the blinding spell was no sophisticated Magic, the fact that it was cast instantly without any visible preparation unnerved her.
When Komer reappeared from a different angle, angry roars akin to thunder followed the sudden appearance of several hulking figures. The Cross Spiral Harrows whirling in flight emitted a ghastly wail. Three spinning discs surrounded Komer, clashing and grinding down in a frenzy. Amidst the howling, the glimmers of light dazzled; these were deadly weapons adapted from the Dwarves’ flying axes, especially lethal in close combat and when facing multiple foes.
Komer hadn’t expected his opponent to react so swiftly. Before he could launch an offense, the giants’ Cross Spiral Harrows were already entangling him. He smoothly executed a Dragon Soaring Control Art to evade the intersecting assault of three spinning harrows, but as they collided with each other, they leveraged the impact to spiral back towards the direction Komer had dodged.
"Hey!" An Earth Elemental Giant leaped up to meet them, its dense earthen body allowing the three Cross Spiral Harrows to sink deeply into it.
"Miss Katrina, your subordinates are quite responsive. However, it seems you’ve misunderstood my intentions. Do you really think that if I had wanted to harm you, you’d still have a chance?" Komer watched as the Earth Elemental Giant was cleaved into several pieces by the three Cross Spiral Harrows, which exhausted their force in the process. Yet, he remained composed and nonchalant.
Waving her hand to halt the advance of several more warrior giants, Katrina leaned on her sword, thoughtfully sizing up Komer. "It seems you have come here with a purpose. Just who are you, and what is your intention in coming to our place?" she inquired.
Komer carefully considered how to respond to her. His identity seemed somewhat awkward at the moment; even now, he still didn’t understand how he, having been caught in a Different Space black hole, ended up on the altar of the Giganthia Temple. However, he was certain it was related to his purification of the great Dark Magic Power of Kennifer III. He wondered if it was Kennifer III’s formidable Power that had freed him from the Different Space.
And now that I’ve returned to this world, how should I face the realities that have already come to pass? Although Komer still isn’t clear about the detailed situation in Caucasus, he didn’t hear any news of drastic changes in Caucasus during his travel. It’s still unknown whether the Church of Light has blocked the news or if it simply hasn’t reached the South yet. For some reason, Komer felt a temporary desire not to contact the people of Caucasus, allowing himself to rest and relax without constraints. Perhaps he felt that he needed some time to sort out his thoughts.
"Who I am is something I feel I will tell you when the time is necessary. For now, confidentiality is needed, but you just need to understand one thing, I have no ill intentions towards Miss Katrina. As for why I’m here? It seems I didn’t come voluntarily; it was Miss Katrina’s subordinates who brought me here, probably because they thought I was suspicious. However, personally, I did want to witness the prestige of the Red-haired Witch renowned throughout the Mediterranean, and, um, it wasn’t too disappointing."
Komer’s words could not hide a hint of teasing, which infuriated the giant warriors who were standing in line, with anger brimming from the top of their heads. No one dared to be so presumptuous in front of their Chief. Their hands gripping the copper rods were nearly leaving indentations, and the raging flames of anger seemed almost ready to melt Komer.
On Katrina’s face emerged a rare, serious expression, yet her heart was filled with doubts. Arrogance naturally comes with its own capital, and it does not mean that the opponent is foolish. The Dark Shield that the opponent released had been broken by her Fighting Qi, but the Dark Power still made Katrina feel the opponent’s boundless potential. Could he be a Dark Priest? From the Great Mysterium Sect or the Charm Sect lineages? On this land, the famous dark power wielders seem to only come from these two. She had never had any dealings with them, so what could be their purpose in acting this way?
According to her understanding, they never seemed to deign to focus on the petty struggles for power at sea. To them, the faith of the people seemed to be the eternal pursuit, and the struggle with the Northern Church of Light was their unchanging goal. Could it be that something had changed?
"Let’s be plain, Your Excellency. Since you’ve come and we’ve met, there’s no need to hide or hoard. Lay it all out, and let me, Katrina, ponder over what exactly you are trying to do. A Bard, that’s quite the title. A Bard skilled in Dark Magic—surely you’re not expecting us to believe that you’re truly here to erect a monument to my achievements?"
Although Katrina was inwardly uneasy, she didn’t show any sign of weakness in her demeanor, and her pressing tone seemed as if she was about to attack Komer.
In the side hall, the Javelin Throwers and Crossbowmen had gradually taken their places, and the only three Mages of the fleet had raised their Magic Wands and were quietly chanting spells, preparing to invoke Magic. However, Katrina knew that these means of attack might be effective against others, but for the person before her, it would be fortunate if they could even serve to delay or restrict him.
"Miss Katrina, I have already stated that I have no enmity towards you or your fleet. My purpose on Dacorsica Island is to see just how powerful the Carter Fleet is. Perhaps we might have an opportunity to collaborate in the future," Komer said slowly after a careful deliberation, "You don’t have to jump to conclusions. If I had other intentions, your subordinates and you wouldn’t be able to inflict much harm on me with your individual strength."
