Chapter 680: Volume Nineteen: Lost Horizon Chapter Nine: Truth

Seeing his opponent’s unyielding face gradually fade into a completely blurred void, the Starry Sky Magic Matrix began to shake. The strong spatial fluctuations had already affected the structural integrity of Damarlinsk Castle, and even the castle walls seemed to start trembling. Noyola timed it perfectly; he thrust his magic wand deep into the ground and mustered all his strength to transform his light magic power into the power of the void.

Star Magic was not strange to Noyola. It made use of the stars’ shifting positions in the sky, then channeled the spatial forces and transformed them. This was the basic principle of Star Magic. The power of the void, which was different from elemental magic and light or dark magic, was theoretically derived from the forces released by the sun, the moon, and the stars. Magic practitioners, to a greater or lesser extent, would encounter this force during their cultivation. However, how to enhance this power and turn it into one’s own mana for arbitrary use was the mystery of Star Magic.

What Noyola initiated was the only Star Magic spell he could proudly wield—sky inversion. This was originally a unique spell used for magical counterattacks, yet he did not expect to use it for the first time against a Star Magic Array. After Noyola invoked the sky inversion, a slight anomaly occurred in the outwardly radiating Star Magic power. The uncontrollable Star Magic energy was cleverly manipulated by Noyola’s technique, changing the direction of its force. From solid to void, the previously unstoppable power of the stars was at this moment gathered by the Magic Array, surging towards the direction guided by Noyola’s wand, and the ground matrix pillars also gradually stabilized as the stellar power was directed.

Damarlinsk Castle, which had already been shaking, finally calmed down. Lorenzo looked as if he had aged ten years, pale-faced. Noyola wasn’t faring much better; sweat was visible on his brow. Using the sky inversion to reverse such a vast amount of power released by the Starry Sky Magic Matrix, even if only guiding its direction, was somewhat strenuous for Noyola.

Caru and Boritz had tightly sealed off all routes for Rebry, who, having exhausted his mana from the roar of the Wind Dragon, held no illusion of escaping from these former colleagues. And with Komer thrust into a Different World Space, he lost all hope. In the presence of Noyola and Lorenzo, he stood no chance; even though Noyola and Lorenzo were also worn out.

"Now what do we do?" Looking at Caru and Boritz, who had come back empty-handed, Noyola was not surprised. The two had already alarmed their quarry last time, and given the noble’s temperament, he would not wait until the Court arrived to start frantically hiding whatever scant traces there were. That fellow would have already hidden them away.

In a place like Caucasus, there were too many spots to hide. Noyola and Lorenzo never expected to find any evidence under such circumstances. The question was, what now? Rebry had been captured, and this fallen one must be taken back to the Court to redeem his tainted soul through atonement. That poor bumpkin had fallen into Different World Space, and no one knew which corner of the infinite space he landed in. Just thinking of Different World Space, a term almost mythical, one would know his existence could be utterly disregarded.

However, the pressing issue was how to explain this to the outside world. Enforcement without notifying anyone had happened before, but this time was different. This fellow was a lord, and in the current delicate situation of the Kingdom of Nicosia, his status seemed important. The problem was that Noyola still had no evidence to prove the lord’s association with the Dark Forces. His performance in this battle could not serve as proof, as no one would believe their side under these circumstances.

Such an action was undoubtedly a taboo, especially at a time when the relationship between the Kingdom of Nicosia and the Church of Light was in a special, sensitive state. It could easily be interpreted by secular forces as the Court aiding the Church of Light in gaining unfair advantages, or even as using violent means to eliminate those with differing faiths. Noyola did not want to shoulder such a burden.

Perhaps the Homer People would rejoice in secret, but publicly they would still launch ferocious criticism. No secular power would endorse this approach. It was tantamount to encouraging the Church to punish nobles at will without any basis, which would be seen as an outright provocation to all the secular forces on the Continent.

"Lord Noyola, it is indeed troublesome. We cannot disclose this matter because we have no evidence. Doing so would only place us in a passive position," Caru finally said after a moment of silence.

"Does this fellow have no heir?" Lorenzo asked, tilting his head.

"He is not yet married, nor does he have children; there are no legal heirs," Caru shook his head.

Noyola slightly furrowed his brow. "It seems we can only stick to one story—that Viscount Komer and Rebry were entrusted by the Court of Church of Light to handle a matter on the Mang Continent and they might need quite some time. The affairs in Caucasus and Leon Territory are, for the time being, entrusted to—"

"Sir Puber!" Caru added, catching on.

"Right, entrusted to Sir Puber for temporary management," Noyola was pleased with Caru’s quick thinking. "We will not interfere with any secular matters in Caucasus and Leon. Even if there are suspicions from the outside, they will accept this situation, as we have no intent to change the political status quo in Caucasus and Leon."

"But the situation in Caucasus—" Lorenzo hesitated.

```
"It doesn’t matter, what reaction could they possibly have? We clearly informed them of Viscount Komer and Rebury’s whereabouts, and if they don’t believe us, they are free to search Mang Continent for themselves. Furthermore, we relayed Viscount Komer’s words that Sir Puba would temporarily handle the affairs of state. As for what happens in the future, who can say for certain?" Caru explained, "Even if they have doubts, they wouldn’t be able to guess what really happened."
"Hmph, isn’t everything on the ground evidence enough?" Lorenzo glanced at Caru with dissatisfaction.
"Well, we can explain it by expressing our concerns about whether Komer and Rebury possess the capabilities needed to undertake an expedition to Mang Continent," Caru said with a light smile.
"That’s just sophistry, no one will believe it," Lorenzo shook his head.
"Lord Lorenzo, the truth is in our hands, they have no choice but to believe our words, truth is eternal," Caru lowered his head and spoke softly.
"Truth? Perhaps if you repeat it enough times it becomes truth," Lorenzo huffed and said no more.
"Let’s leave it at that. Caru, go and inform those people on our behalf, and don’t be too courteous about it. Just tell them Viscount Komer admires the God of Light and is willing to do this meaningful act to propagate the teachings of the Church of Light. Nothing more needs to be said," Noyola concluded decisively.
"Lord Noyola, what about the situation here?" Boritz finally spoke up.
"There’s no need to stay here any longer, now that the root of the problem has been removed. Inform the people of Frenster that they may now actively proselytize and preach here. As for the Thunderhorse Knights regiment, don’t reveal the real situation to them for now. Just say that we have started a series of operations to eradicate the Dark Forces in the Caucasus, no need to go into details," Noyola said with a contemplative look. How would Frenster react to that?
Watching the departing members of the Court, Puba’s brain was suddenly blank. Ever since the Half-beastman Guards had been expelled from Damarlinsk Castle, Puba realized that something was amiss. However, he knew very little about the other side of Komer, perhaps Rebury knew the most, but since Rebury and Komer were together at Damarlinsk Castle, exactly what had transpired was a mystery to all.
But the current scene within the castle was evidence enough of the fierceness of the magical conflict, with crisscrossing scars on the ground, the disorderly giant pit, and every room clearly searched by someone. Coupled with the thunder and clouds that enveloped Damarlinsk Castle at the time, even Puba, who knew nothing about magic, understood that this was certainly no mere assessment!
Damn it! Puba didn’t know what to do now. Although it was made clear that he was to temporarily take charge of state affairs, what Puba needed to know was what exactly had happened, and where had Komer and Rebury gone?
"Sir Puba, it’s likely that the Lord has been kidnapped by these people!" Maha Gummi’s face was grave, but a trace of worry in his eyes couldn’t be concealed, "That’s the only possibility, they’re either the lapdogs sent by the Homer People or the executioners of the Church of Light!"
"No, Maha Gummi, the internal affairs of the Church of Light are quite complex. It’s not as simple as you imagine. Even I’m not entirely clear about the intricacies," Puba shook his head, having some inkling of the situation, "But one thing is certain, the Church of Light, or even the Court, whether in relation to the Homer People or the kingdom, it’s not something that can be summarized in a few words. They would not act based on the interests of any one party or individual."
"Then why have they come this time? Could it be that the Lord has violated some taboo of theirs?" Maha Gummi sighed, his face then resolute, "Our most pressing issue now is to find the Lord immediately. The Caucasus cannot be without the Lord! The Lord would never go to Mang Continent. We need to find Miss Eve and the others right away, and we must also inform Mihailovich, Lome, and Miss Shatima. Only they have the ability to locate the Lord!"
