Chapter 503: Volume Eleven: Shrouded in Fog and Smoke Chapter Fifteen: Dark Night Angel Mercenary Group

A crisp cry of alarm came from the assassin who had fallen to the ground, as two glistening vines, like living ropes, slithered over the assassin’s tightly constricted body, gradually sprouting little thorns. With each sinuous movement of the vines, the mage’s broad robe was shredded to tatters, revealing the body-hugging clothing underneath.

At this moment, the two warriors who had launched a desperate attack also seemed to realize their recklessness and stopped, sheepishly, not knowing what to do as they looked at Komer and his companion.

The two opponents in front of them didn’t seem to be part of the group that had been evading pursuit and assassination; one was calm and collected, spreading magic freely, while the other, though looking displeased, exuded elegance and serenity, and with her picturesque eyebrows and soft features, it was hard to imagine she was the mage who had just cast the Light Holy Shield.

But one thing was certain, the two opposites standing as mages were not their enemies. Uncertain why the others had called out for them to wait, it had triggered an intense reaction from the already tense trio.

Lome looked unhappily at the Great Sage, who was intently watching the struggling assassin on the ground. The mage’s robe that covered the outside had been torn into scraps by her thrashing and the crawling vines, revealing a sophisticated assassin attire underneath, with long, shapely legs leading up to full and firm hips tightly wrapped in a leather crafted from a special beast skin, outlining an enchanting figure that could only be attained through extensive physical training.

Around her slender waist, a wide belt fastened in reverse was adorned with a string of small trinkets that resembled decorations, but Komer knew they likely served another purpose, though he could not discern their secrets for the time being.

Above the delicate waistline were her prominent breasts; two large, green chest plates fastened over her elevated bosom, covering her peaks completely, yet the contours of her figure could still be discerned from the outside.

The mage’s hat that had been covering her head also fell off, revealing short hair that blazed like leaping flames, with an attractive round face and eyes wide with anger. Her cheeks, flushed with a crimson hue, were slightly sweaty, and her cute nostrils flared continuously. Clearly, being tied to the ground by these embarrassingly magical vines was intolerable for her; she clenched her silver teeth and refused to make a sound, struggling continuously to escape the increasingly tightening vines.

Lome perceptibly sensed the Great Sage’s interest in the female assassin on the ground, and though she wanted to wave her hand and release the Wood Magic cast by Komer, she was afraid to go against his wishes. She could only suppress her displeasure and stand by calmly.

"There’s no point in struggling anymore; these are magic vines, born from the power of Wood Magic drawing from the earth. You can’t break free with brute force, unless your Fighting Qi has reached the level of the Martial Dao," Komer said with a gentle smile. Despite the frenzied attack they had faced, Komer didn’t seem to harbor any enmity as he casually added, "If you promise not to attack me and my companions again, I can immediately remove this restraint for you. I think you might have misunderstood something. Ah, it looks like your companions have come to realize this."

With a casual flick of his finger towards the ground, the two glossy vines, as if sentient creatures, swiftly slipped away from the tightly bound female assassin and burrowed into the ground without a trace, leaving no sign of where they had emerged, garnering the envy of the two warriors still grasping their weapons with barely hidden admiration.

To a warrior, this kind of magic, which appears and vanishes without a trace, is the best amulet. If a Mercenary Corps has a magician among them, its status would instantly rise, and if there is a mage, the group would undoubtedly stand out as one of the elite in the Mercenary world.

Unfortunately, mages are too popular across the Continent and except for substantially sized Mercenary Corps, ordinary groups simply can’t afford to keep one. Even magicians usually wouldn’t mingle with mercenaries casually; they could do much better anywhere else, unless they wanted to take advantage of the Mercenaries’ work to hone and improve their magic ability.

Magic Practitioners are incredibly beneficial to a Mercenary group, not just for casting attack spells during combat but also for using support magic to enhance the attack efficiency and protective ability of the warriors. They can also help the warriors recover their strength and heal injuries. In essence, depending on the specialization of the Magic Practitioners, they can provide significant aid in certain areas and cover additional tasks as well.

Of course, during combat, Magic Practitioners have rather poor close-quarters combat capability, typically requiring the protective presence of dedicated warriors or fighters. But the benefits they bring far outweigh this drawback.

As the magic vines were retracted, the freed female assassin sprang up lithely from the ground, her battered mage robe looking somewhat comical, contrasting with the intricate and snug-fitting assassin clothes hidden beneath.

Seeing the assassin’s crimson cheeks and her ferociously murderous facade, Komer found the scene extraordinarily amusing. Such a stubborn, unyielding assassin was rare. Assassins adhere to the principle of striking to kill with one blow, and if they find themselves severely outmatched or unable to confront head-on, they tend to flit away and seek another opportunity rather than blatantly expose themselves.

This girl must be a novice in the way of the assassin, taking on the lead role in this quirky band of mercenaries. Even in the face of failure, she was too embarrassed to leave. Besides, this was all a misunderstanding and not really dangerous.

"Ladies and gentlemen," Komer spoke in a gentle tone, though his words were unsparing, "I believe by now you should have realized that the two of us are probably not your targets, right? Such impulsiveness and recklessness are taboo for a mercenary. Next time you encounter someone else, you may not be as lucky."

"Hmph, who are you to lecture us?! Why did you bother trying to flag us down when we clearly don’t know you?" The female assassin adjusted her robe only to find the outside of her mage’s robe too shabby-looking. In a swift motion, she tore it off in front of everyone and tossed it aside, displaying her robust and graceful figure.

Even her two companions felt embarrassed by their comrade’s bold behavior—a girl acting so casually in front of several men was quite inappropriate.

"Uh, the three of you, we are indeed strangers," Komer began, "but I accidentally overheard someone mentioning your theft issue. It appears to have been an Elf Thief, and just before that, I happened to notice an Elf Thief passing by me, so..."

Before Komer could finish, the three nearly shouted in unison, "Where is he?"

"I’m sorry, but he was here just a moment ago; he shouldn’t have gone far. However, you’ve delayed things with your fussing, and I’m afraid he’s probably left this garden by now." Komer shrugged, looking innocent.

Upon hearing Komer’s words, the trio deflated, with the girl especially irate, feeling as though she had been played: "You, why can’t you talk straight!? You stammer and ramble, wasting so much of our time. Come on, let’s go! Don’t waste your breath on this guy!"

"Ah, Miss Bukharin, could you please not be so hasty? I have a proposal, would you be willing to consider it? It happens that I too had something stolen by that same thief. I’m not very familiar with Prague, so I was hoping to join your group in search of the thief. What do you think about my suggestion?" Komer said with a slight smile, his voice calm.

The three exchanged surprised glances, and even the female assassin nearly jumped for joy. It was a stroke of great fortune; the magic displayed by these two indicated they were at least on the level of a Mage. If they could join their group, wouldn’t the value of their Mercenary Corps increase manifold?

However, it seemed Komer had reservations, simply expressing a desire to join the search for the stolen goods. It was still uncertain whether he would be interested in joining their Mercenary Corps. Would Mages like them see value in a group like theirs?

Mixed feelings of excitement and concern brewed in their hearts. The girl still dressed as an assassin was quick to react. She blinked rapidly as if calculating how to entice these seemingly inexperienced fledglings into their ranks and promptly said, "Sure, but you two must join our Mercenary Corps as official members and be part of our group to act together. Hmm, our Mercenary Corps just happens to have a few vacancies for Mages. If you’re interested in joining, I can represent our corps and accept your request to join."

"Joining a Mercenary Corps? I don’t even know the name of your corps, nor whether it’s well-known. My teacher told me that only famous Mercenary Corps need Mages for our security. I’m not sure about your corps...?" Komer blinked, feigning confusion.

"Ha, haven’t you heard of our Dark Night Angel Mercenary Group? Our Black Rose Mercenary Group is renowned in the Northern Continent. Even the beastmen of the Mogan Wilderness dare not provoke us easily. By the look of you two, I can tell you’ve just started your journey. Haven’t you heard of our corps? You two are really out of touch," the girl’s voice grew sharp as though she was raising her volume to give herself confidence. If she could dupe these two, her Mercenary Corps’ strength and prestige could skyrocket, ensuring their prominence even in the south.
