Chapter 439: Volume 9: Phantom of the Ancient Castle, Chapter 5: Rebirth Part 2
If it hadn’t been for the brilliant performance of this captive Light Mage against the One-spiked Flying Dragon, it would be quite uncertain whether this adventure group could have made it through that challenge unscathed.
Fortunately, the gains they had made were not insignificant, especially the large number of books related to magic acquired from the two bookcases, which Komer and the other Mages were eager to return to the surface to peruse at leisure and digest the fruits of their adventure.
The disposal of the Light Mage ultimately fell into Komer’s hands; after all, it was he who was the true master of this land. And Komer’s promise to the Magicians, that he would erase all of the Light Mage’s memories and train her to become a true believer of Hades, the Lord of the Underworld, was something they all looked forward to. This sounded like an exceptionally challenging task—one that neither Rebry nor Mihailovich had the confidence to undertake—but the young lord seemed full of it.
The adventure’s rich bounty surprised everyone, especially Puber and Ilot. Neither of them could have imagined that the haul from this adventure would be so significant. Though the treasures temporarily borrowed by the Magicians and Dark Knights caused Puber significant pain, he consoled himself with the thought that these Magicians would stay in the Caucasus for a long time, even possibly attracting more of their kind to reside there. In view of this, the trade seemed quite fair.
What gnawed at Ilot was the equipment obtained by the two Dark Knights. Fortuitously, the treasure trove included more than just a Dark Sword forged from Ghostly Sand and an Anti-magic Armor. A Secret Devil Spear with considerable history, crafted by the Dwarves of the Sayan Mountains region in the South, was something Ilot could not put down.
This Secret Devil Spear was made from Devil’s Iron Ore that is unique to the Sayan Mountains region in the South, smelted into refined iron.
Although Devil’s Iron Ore is not Magic Metal, it possesses characteristics similar to certain Magic Metals. Weapons made from the refined iron it produces can effectively combine with the user’s innate Fighting Qi attributes, enabling the Fighting Qi to be utilized to its fullest extent.
Although it may not enhance the power of Fighting Qi as many imagine, even a slight improvement can sometimes be the decisive factor that determines the outcome of a battle. Therefore, weapons forged from the iron ore of this region have always been favored by many Knights and Warriors.
Regrettably, the Sayan Mountains region is filled with treacherous terrain and difficult access. The mines producing Devil’s Iron Ore have low output, mostly poor Iron Mines with a high level of impurities, making smelting and refining arduous. Moreover, the few mines that were easy to exploit had been depleted a hundred years ago. Although many prospectors are still searching in the Sayan Mountains region, there has been little progress.
In fact, this type of iron ore is already out of production, causing the price of weapons forged from this Devil’s Iron Ore to skyrocket in the high-end weapon markets everywhere, and they are consistently in short supply.
The Secret Devil Spear is an excellent weapon forged by the Dwarves from the refined iron of this Devil’s Iron Ore. While not as precious as the Dark Sword cast from Ghostly Sand, this impressive and exceptionally stable large weapon seems even more suitable for Ilot, who has made significant progress in Martial Arts, especially as a battlefield weapon for charging—an area where it is much more useful than smaller weapons designed for personal duels.
Having come into possession of such a fine weapon, Ilot was already completely satisfied. In his view, it was as if the weapon had been custom-made for him.
In the dimly lit Practice room, a faint halo gradually rose. Komer, intrigued, watched the still resolutely bound Light Mage before him, whose face of defiance and anger was fading but whose steadfast gaze told Komer that she would not be easily dealt with.
After moving her slightly stiff body, the Girl made no other moves. She knew that without her captor releasing the dark bindings that had seeped into her very being, she was no different from an ordinary girl. Any resistance in such a place would undoubtedly be futile and unwise. It was wiser to stay calm and address the situation, perhaps providing a chance for things to turn around.
Seeing that the Girl was calmly adjusting her clothing without paying attention to him, Komer found it increasingly interesting. The more challenging a task, the more it piqued his interest, and undoubtedly, this Woman was a high-ranking combatant specially trained by the Church of Light. Her composure in such circumstances provided ample proof of this, and it only intensified Komer’s keen interest.
"Please have a seat, Miss Lome, if you’re willing," Komer said, raising his hand in a gentlemanly gesture of courtesy towards the formidable Woman. He was eager to learn about her true origins and her reason for coming here, and of course, he also wanted to use her to gain some insights into the inner workings and power structure of the vast Church of Light, although he knew it would be difficult.
Giving Komer a brief glance, the Girl seemed unaware of his ulterior motives and sat down gracefully. "Your Excellency, please don’t ask questions that are a waste of words. I will not provide any answers, so you needn’t bother with more," she said. "However, if you would like to discuss your issues of Faith, I would be delighted to oblige."
Before Komer could speak, the Girl blocked his approach but her last remark intrigued him. Nodding with a smile, Komer replied, "Very well, since Miss Lome is willing to give me an opportunity or, shall we say, enlighten me on matters of Faith, I am more than willing to engage in conversation with you on this topic. You need not hold back, Miss Lome. Speak freely, I’m all ears. Should you require explanations or answers from me, please do not hesitate to instruct me."
