Chapter 232: Chapter 4: Treasure Storage_3

By this time, everyone had remembered that the items in their hands belonged to someone else. Although Komer had promised that, should the exploration succeed, he would reward everyone with a share of the discoveries, for everyone involved, money, jewelry, beauty, and power had long lost any appeal. Perhaps the only thing that could draw their interest was the chance to enhance their own power. The adventure was merely a hobby for them, as well as a way to satisfy their desire for challenges.

"Uh, Lord, if I remember correctly, you had promised that if the exploration proved successful, you would give us a satisfactory reward..."

"Hehehe," Komer laughed, interrupting the slightly uneasy Puppet Mage, and said aloud, "Mr. Mihailovich, that’s right, I did promise you all, but now the exploration has not been successful. There are still so many secret paths we have not explored, and what is our main target? We have yet to discover the demons lurking deep underground. Does this count as a successful exploration?"

Komer’s words left everyone looking at each other in consternation. Listening to their Lord, it seemed he had no intention of using the treasures they had found as a reward, which was quite unexpected to everyone. Even Newman, clasping his book, opened his mouth wide and for a moment, didn’t know how to respond.

"Lord, I think we don’t need to beat around the bush," Rebry said, much more smoothly and tactfully. He could see that the other party was not very interested in these treasures, which in the eyes of magicians were unparalleled, and was much more interested in them. Thinking it over, he could guess the other’s intentions. "Indeed, among these discoveries there are things we like, or rather, need. If you are willing to part with some of your treasures, I believe everyone here would be willing to continue with the subsequent explorations. As you said, perhaps there are even more wonderful things awaiting us further ahead, but it’s likely there will be even greater risks and dangers as well. Hence, we also need these items to strengthen our own power, to prepare for the next phase of exploration. Of course, we may also assist you with other tasks, wouldn’t you agree?"

"Hehe, Mr. Rebry really does understand," replied Komer with a chuckle. "Well then, if you really need these items, I can lend them to you temporarily. Once our exploration is completely over, I will allow each of you to choose two items from the treasures as a reward. Of course, until the exploration is finished, you will only be able to stay in the Caucasus. During this time, if I need your help, you cannot refuse my request. What do you think of these terms?"

Komer’s proposal was more generous than everyone had expected. Apart from Rebry, who had a faint idea of the other’s intentions, the rest were impressed by their Lord’s openness and understanding. Staying in a place like the Caucasus, with full meals and free to pursue whatever they wanted without restrictions, where the Lord would provide all the conditions they could possibly need, wasn’t that the life all magicians strived for? Probably even the conditions in the Bohemian Prague couldn’t match those here, not to mention they were Dark Practitioners who had no choice but to keep themselves hidden.

The wealth of the items found in the ancient castle’s secret chamber left everyone tongue-tied after a careful tally. The so-called Aladdin Token made of Black Magic Crystal was undoubtedly the jewel among them, a Magic Wand made of pure Black Magic Crystal, absolutely unique in the Continent; Pyrros’ Map was a Demonic Map impossible to replicate. To anyone not possessing significant Dark Magic Force, it appeared just like a worthless, old sheepskin. But under different angles and light sources, the full view could become visible. It was the detailed map of the Pyrros Earth Palace, one of the three great mysterious underground palaces of the Continent none had ever set foot in. Based on this map one could find the entrance to the Earth Palace and it provided several key elements for entering the palace to explore. Newman’s book, "Pavaro Star Arithmetic," was an ancient Magic book long considered lost. It contained the secrets of ancient Star Magic and the principles and strategies for designing mechanisms utilizing Star Magic. Just like a beacon in the night, this long out-of-print book showed Newman the avenue to ascend in star arithmetic.

The Metal Magic Doll held tightly by the Puppet Mage was said to be the culminating work of the greatest Dark Mage of the Dark Age—Democritus—a body made entirely of various Magic Metals. Aside from not giving the Puppet human character and intelligence, the Magic Crystals embedded within allowed it to possess human instinctual responses. Since it was made entirely of Magic Metal, it was not only immune to magic but also capable of performing some magic related to its master’s own demonic nature, and ordinary Martial arts were completely ineffective against it. Moreover, it could enhance its combat power as its master’s power increased. Having control over it was like creating a duplicate of oneself for its master. Discovering the secrets of its internal design was the Puppet Mage’s greatest hope, to be able to produce something comparable to the works of Dark Mages from the Dark Age was Mihailovich’s lifelong dream.
