Chapter 233: Chapter 5: Reinvention

By comparison, the weapons and armor held by the two Dark Knights paled significantly. The dull, lusterless long sword in Vladimir Koff’s hand was clearly an ancient relic with some years to it, but Komer seemed to lack knowledge in this area. The Dark Knight generously told Komer that it was one of the works of the famous Dwarven master smith Ou Yezi from hundreds of years ago, and its value could be seen just from the choice of materials used in forging this long sword.

The long sword, which appeared plain and unadorned, was forged entirely from a dark magic metal—Ghostly Sand. Ghostly Sand is not a magic metal per se, but it shares certain characteristics of magic metals, being extremely tough. However, refining the tiny grains of Ghostly Sand, melting them into shape, and ultimately crafting them into a Hundred-refined long sword required substantial time and effort. Additionally, the skill to control the smelting process was crucial. Insufficient smelting would leave the finished product fragile and useless, while excess would render it too pliable and compromise its sharpness. For hundreds of years on the Blue Continent, none but the Dwarven masters could undertake the creation of such items. Yet, Vladimir Koff was unclear about the name of this long sword, as while many of Ou Yezi’s famous masterpieces are known and have been passed down, there are many whose true names are yet to be discovered.

The flexible armor that Solonberg carefully wiped was also a masterpiece by a Dwarven giant. On this, Komer could discern some clues—it was an authentic Anti-magic Armor, a favorite of Knights for defending against Magic Attacks. For a long time, Knights pursuing the Martial Dao and Mages exploring the Magic Heaven had different objectives, and ideally, there wouldn’t be a conflict, but living on the Continent, no one could truly exempt themselves from worldly interests. Often, for their own benefits, Knights and Mages could either stand on the same side or find themselves at odds. The duels between Knights and Magicians have always been points of contention—debates about who is the true ruler of the Continent seem to have troubled the races since the Continent’s inception, but even now, no definitive conclusion has been reached.

Simply put, if a Knight’s level surpasses that of the Mage he faces, the Knight can use his strong Fighting Qi to resist the Mage’s Magic Attacks then eliminate his opponent with his martial arts. Likewise, if a Mage is more powerful than the Knight, he can cast formidable magic to vanquish his foe outright. This has always been a paradoxical combination, with neither party assured of victory without first witnessing the other’s strength. Many glorious moments on the Continent have been duels between Knights and Magicians, and the outcomes appeared to be evenly split. The debate seems never-ending.

In the face of Mages who often can strike first, dealing an initial blow to the Knights, Casters have devised various ways to develop Anti-magic Armor. Of course, these armors cannot withstand all sorts of Magic Attacks from Mages, but they offer the same protection against Physical Attacks as ordinary armor. Casters have also experimented with adding Magic metal minerals and Magic non-metal minerals into the armor materials, endowing the armor with unique opposing properties. Some Mages have since joined the smelting process, applying Magic blessings and Condensation Spells in the production process, resulting in a significant advancement in the craft of Anti-magic Armor. The intricate craftsmanship and high difficulty, coupled with frequent failures and expensive materials, make such armor quite costly, even becoming a trendy luxury in high society. Aside from a few affluent senior Knights, ordinary Knights dare not even consider it.

The flexible armor in Solonberg’s hands was clearly a very precious Anti-magic flexible armor. The smooth helmet seemed more suitable for warriors than Knights who valued appearance and demeanor, making it somewhat superfluous. However, the splendid silver armor was incredibly soft to the touch and finely thin; when worn underneath a knightly coat, nothing seemed amiss. Komer could feel the flow of restrained water-based magic, a clear indication that it was armor designed against Fire and Thunder Magic, with considerable Protective Ability against Earth Magic as well. Moreover, a distinct Magic incantation mark on the right shoulder of the armor signified that a Mage had conferred additional magic upon it. However, determining which spells had been cast would require an expert versed in arcane and exotic Magic incantations.

What Komer felt was his greatest gain, though, was the Light Mage he held captive; her arrival had initially filled him with a disquieting pressure, but once she was bound, that sensation dissipated. Even the relinquished Aladdin Token from Rebry and the precious Magic books and ancient Continent history books on the shelves couldn’t match the relief and ease he now felt.

Given the complex geography of the Moreske Castle underground palace, as well as the potential hidden dangers that might still lurk within, the exploration team unanimously agreed to postpone the next stage of their exploration. Particularly concerning were the emergences of Exotic Magical Beast Variants, which served as a stark warning. Were it not for the impressive display by the now-captive Light Mage during the battle with the One-spiked Flying Dragon, it would be difficult to say whether the team would have emerged unscathed. Fortunately, the gains had been substantial, especially the numerous books acquired from two bookcases, most of which were related to magic. Both Komer and the other Magicians were eager to return to the surface to slowly digest the fruits of their exploration.
