Chapter 1037: Volume 33, Where to Go, Chapter 25, The Battle that Sways the City (8)
Stari received glances from his comrades as soon as the Knight Hilton made his move.
He took a deep breath and leaped forward first, his body wafting up under the guidance of the Water Dance Wind Technique at that moment, as his great sword whistled through the air, bringing a fierce wind. Launching an all-out attack from the onset was rare for Stari; other than his battle with the Ice Dragon still lurking nearby, he couldn’t recall anyone else requiring him to do so.
The surging might, along with the circles of light that the sword’s blade conjured, bloomed one after another, while Stari’s figure was like a hazy phantom, flickering in and out of visibility, nimbly weaving through his opponent’s shadowy spear’s force.
Simultaneously, Iris’s presence was as fleeting as a ghost, her slender stiletto gleaming with a chill light, appearing and disappearing in quick succession. The pale sword light was mostly submerged in the clash of swords between Stari and Hilton, but when it occasionally shone through, it forced the Sky-level Saint Knight to react with difficulty.
"Eh?" Caesar’s gaze shifted, noting the momentum displayed by this male and female pair seemed to overpower Hilton’s level.
Especially amidst the drifting mist, two apparition-like figures orbited Hilton, one in broad, sweeping movements, grand and unrestrained, the other delicate and cunning, flickering in and out of sight, their cooperation impeccable. The man seemed to be taking on most of Hilton’s pressure, but Caesar knew the true lethal move would certainly come from the woman—at the moment when the man burst forth to meet the fiercest resistance, that’s when the woman would be poised to thrust a fatal blow.
"Who are these two?" Caesar couldn’t help but turn to ask.
"They do not seem familiar, and their techniques do not appear to be martial arts of us mortals," Lorenzo furrowed his brows, surprised by the myriad of extraordinary characters under Komer’s command. At least the performance of these two was eye-opening; even as bystanders, the Fog-Transforming Illusion Technique looked elusive and intangible, and one could only imagine the immense pressure that one faced within.
"Hmph, it seems we might have underestimated our opponent, hopefully, we won’t have too many more such surprises," Caesar coldly remarked, making Noyola and Lorenzo feel somewhat embarrassed.
The intervention of the Jellyfish Double Respect instantly doubled the size of the battlefield, but for the vast square inside Damarlinsk Castle, this was just a corner. The fierce wind stirred more intense and exciting combat, igniting everyone’s passion; it was a battle to decide fate.
Caesar’s words made the two chiefs of the Court both feel somewhat awkward; after taking a brief breath, Lorenzo exchanged a look with Noyola, indicating it was time for the Court to act, or else it might become an irrelevant entity in Caesar’s eyes.
"Caesar, allow me to witness the supreme arcane arts from the Dark Lineage in this battle," Lorenzo stepped forward, his gaze fixed on the opposite side.
"Very well, Lorenzo, I hope your performance does not tarnish the honor of the Church of Light. The Court should be the supreme adjudicating authority, any defilement against the sacred arcane teachings of light must be purged without hesitation!" Caesar articulated each word with a cold luminance in his eyes.
Lorenzo nodded without expression and took a step forward, but his gaze turned to his former close friend, Rebry. It seemed Rebry felt Lorenzo’s gaze and met it with a slight smile, "Lorenzo, have you chosen me?"
"May I?" Lorenzo brought his hands together, performing a standard rite of Light.
Without another word, Rebry also stepped forward. The duel between mages didn’t need the infinite elegance of melee knights, yet the danger inherent in their clash was no less than that of knights’, where a single misstep could lead to the soul scattering or even being reduced to ashes.
Lorenzo took a deep breath, and his robe billowed gently. For a brief moment, it seemed as if all the sunshine that fell upon Damarlinsk Castle now shone upon him alone. Golden light cascaded over his head, and his radiant smile appeared so solemn, dignified, yet also warm and approachable.
"Saint’s Bright Charming Face!" Rebry exclaimed in surprise. It had been a year since they last met, and Lorenzo had made striking progress. In their last encounter, Lorenzo had been far from this level, but in just one year, he reached such a state. Could it be that the last battle had also been a stepping stone for Lorenzo?
The warm glow that enveloped Lorenzo seemed to pause the very atmosphere of the battlefield. The first to be affected were the trio from Solonberg, whose coordinated offensive faltered under the sudden shift in ambiance. Meanwhile, their opponent appeared to surge in strength, becoming more ferocious and forceful in both reaction speed and power.
Also affected were the combat conditions between the Jellyfish Double Respect and Hilton. Although Lorenzo’s Bright Charming Face had no effect on the combat strength of the Jellyfish Double Respect, it significantly enhanced the combat state of Hilton, the Sky-Level Saint Knight. Wherever the Bright Charming Face illuminated, the Holy Power within Light Knights present was activated to its optimum state. The double-headed Knight Spear transformed into two elusive shadows of light, moving unpredictably up and down, left and right. The numerous light shadows turned into chains of light rings due to the speed of change, relentlessly locking down the Jellyfish Double Respect.
Even though the Jellyfish Double Respect had pushed their Water Dance Wind Technique to the extreme, the Light Fighting Qi stirred up by the opponent’s twin spears continued to spread outward, gradually dissipating the fog-like water vapor, swiftly gaining the upper hand.
This sudden change immediately tipped the balance of the battle, which had been evenly matched, in terms of momentum. Hilton gained the upper hand, and Macroni became overwhelmingly fierce. The combined encirclement of the Solonberg trio was suddenly on the brink of collapse.
Rebry took a deep breath; if he did not retaliate soon, the confidence they had started to build would be swiftly undermined.
Lorenzo made his move with hardly any reservations. The Saint’s Bright Charming Face was, in fact, a mixture of Psychic Magic and Light Magic. He used Mental Magic to project the power of Light Magic to every corner of the battlefield, not only suppressing the antithetical Dark Lineage magic and martial arts but also greatly bolstering the effectiveness of Light Series magic and martial arts.
