Chapter 1033: Volume 33, Where to Go, Chapter 21, The Battle that Sways the City (4)
Maha Gummi’s intelligence network operated at its fastest pace, monitoring Marco and the Sky Garden without missing a detail, since a massive deployment such as the Windriding Knights could hardly occur without leaving any traces. From Komer’s judgment, if the Wind Riders and the Court truly planned to make a move against him, they were unlikely to bother with secrecy.
The moment the knights of the Wind Riders set out, it would signal the commencement of war, and Komer was well aware of the preciousness of the time before this.
The Basarabia Eagle Sobchako had already arrived with two Basarabian Court Knights, claiming their triangular strike formation was a leader among the smaller combined formations, capable of holding its own against five or six opponents of equal strength.
The invitation to the Jellyfish People in the middle of the Catania River should have reached by now. The Double Honor of the Jellyfish People must have started their journey, trading their clan’s health, which they believed would satisfy them since they would never want their clan’s prolonged well-being under a foreign control.
Komer believed he had done everything that could be done, mobilizing all available forces. Damarlinsk Castle would be the place deciding Nicosia’s fate. The Church of Light could not afford to wait, and he was unwilling to delay further, knowing that a prolonged stalemate was unbearable for both sides.
Komer did not consider himself a man fond of women. His frivolous youth was behind him, and although he shared the normal manly penchant and desire for women, these were no longer of paramount importance. What, then, was most crucial for him?
Love?
The word sounded noble yet bitter. For someone like him, craving love was seemingly a luxury. Even if his feelings for Vero were unclear—whether it was a Platonic love of the mind or merely an attraction—he had yet to harbor any physical desires towards her. There might be some, but at least he could control them with ease.
Others then? Eve seemed to be drifting away, but Komer could sense her affection towards him, as his behavior increasingly disappointed her. Perhaps a more realistic realization of his true nature was distancing her from the Komer in her mind, prompting her to leave Nicosia decisively.
Perhaps the only woman who now stood closely beside him was his most intimate person, unwavering and silently supporting him from behind.
"Lome, when did you regain your memories?" Komer softly played with the woman’s soft hair, asking lightly.
"Ah?" The woman shuddered all over, "What did you say?"
"No need to hide anything, I know your memories have long since returned, but I’m glad you still chose to stay by my side," Komer smiled, his slightly sinister smile appearing exceptionally sweet in Lome’s eyes.
"A year ago," Lome continued to lean against Komer’s chest.
"Don’t you hate me?" Komer asked in surprise.
"Hate, of course, but the hate has long turned into love," Lome spoke frankly, her demeanor unabashed and free from any awkwardness or embarrassment.
"Heh, that’s the happiest thing I’ve heard," Komer’s expression became even more gentle, "Our days ahead will be sweeter."
"You seem worried? You’ve never had such emotions before."
"Worried? Certainly, Caesar and the Windriding Knights aren’t just anyone; they represent the pinnacle of the Light Power," Komer’s smile turned bittersweet, "I’m not entirely confident."
"You will be victorious," gentle yet firm, Lome’s eyes held nothing but absolute trust.
"Don’t participate in this battle; I don’t want to put you in a difficult position," Komer pondered before speaking.
"No, I will participate. I want to stand by your side," Lome shook her head.
Their gazes intertwined, and Komer saw determination in her eyes; he could not refuse her.
Shatima was contemplating a dilemma as well; Komer had informed her that this battle would mark the end of their contract. She could choose to fight in her Human Clan appearance, but he also advised her that she could flee if faced with severe danger or transform into her dragon form. The adversaries would be the Church of Light’s formidable warriors, far stronger than any Human Clan warrior she had faced before.
The end of the contract? Shatima felt bewildered; she had grown somewhat unfamiliar with her life in the Swamp. If she lost her current life, she did not know where to go. Should she return to the Swamp Area and resume that lonely yet free existence?
Shatima was unsure whether to be happy or sad; freedom was all well and good, but how meaningful was a friendless, companionless freedom?
Shatima’s gaze fell on her current body, her proud figure always captured the attention of men, and clad in fitting armor, she appeared as a spirited Female Knight.
Her substantial Dragon Spear made many knights feel inadequate, her readily surging Fighting Qi resembling one who has entered a high realm. Shatima was quite pleased with her current life, especially the respectful atmosphere made her feel immensely fulfilled. She had no desire to return to her original damp and messy nest—that was no place for a highly intelligent Beautiful Dragon Knight.
Shatima was aware of the crisis Komer was facing. That fellow Caesar appeared to be among the top warriors of the human world, perhaps even stronger than Vladimirkoff and Solonberg. Without transforming, she undoubtedly was no match for him, but what if she did transform?
Shatima hummed softly. Each transformation was a significant drain on her essential power, and the Dragon Clan was reluctant to transform unless absolutely necessary. Was she really willing to pay such a heavy price for this occasion?
Shatima asked herself, but the answer in the depths of her heart was affirmative.
What made her make this decision? Shatima no longer wished to understand; she only needed to be clear about one thing—if a decision was made, there was no need for further hesitation.
If there must be a battle, so be it.
