Chapter 1031: Volume 33, Where to Go, Chapter 19, The Battle that Sways the City (2)

When Komer realized that war was inevitable, his reaction was unprecedented.

This was a war that would decide fate, and Komer knew this better than anyone. If facing the beastmen or the military provocations of the Northern Alliance, one could still escape with dignity and return to fight another day, but facing the might of the Court and the Wind Riders, there was no chance of escape once defeated.

Perhaps they won’t destroy him physically, but he would forever become their spectacle, used to show the entire Continent what happens to those who dare challenge the Church of Light—the result being a beaten-down version of himself.

Thus, the importance of this battle cannot be overstated in any terms.

Komer accepted Rebry’s suggestion to set the Battlefield at Damarlinsk Castle.

Retreating to Damarlinsk Castle wasn’t shameful considering the overwhelming strength of the Court and the allied forces of Wind Riders. Utilizing the powerful underground dark energy of Damarlinsk Castle, the members of Dark Lineage could surpass their usual limits.

Still, this wasn’t the most crucial part, Uma would play a decisive role in this war.

The various Charming Spirits beneath the third level of Damarlinsk Castle would become Komer’s ultimate countermeasure, he was reluctant to expose the secrets of Damarlinsk Castle unless absolutely necessary, but when everything potentially comes to an end, concealing them any further would be pointless.

Komer demanded that Basarabia send three of their finest and most loyal high-ranking knights to Ugru as quickly as possible, even directly requesting that Sobchakov, known as the Eagle of Basarabia, be among them. Komer did not tell Antonio the reason; he simply needed the person to act as requested. By then, no one could stay uninvolved.

The elites of the Three Great Knights were also gathered for targeted formation training, which puzzled the chiefs of the knights, but Komer gave them no explanation. Obedience is a knight’s duty.

Among them, Shatima undoubtedly felt the intense war spirit most profoundly, especially when Komer spent a great deal of time meditating in the meditation room, she sensed something odd, but for her, it was naturally a rare opportunity; she was immensely eager for a brutally unprecedented war to maximize her combat potential.

Komer silently watched Bear standing in a dark corner. Its yellowish skin seemed to have a bit more vitality and sheen than before, and its eyes also appeared a bit brighter, although the occasional movement of its pupils still proved that it did not possess life, but the added vitality made its whole body seem more spirited and supple, and thus much more agile.

Komer took a deep breath, Bear had surpassed the Golden Corpse Stage and entered the Divine Corpse Stage. The Golden Corpse had been achieved; it was impervious to blades and spears, immune to Fighting Qi, and resistant to magic. The only thing that could harm it might be a high-ranking Magical Instrument combined with strong magic, or a divine magic blade dismembering it.

"Hmph, but when it possesses a certain level of intelligence, who can achieve that? Caesar?" Komer thought coldly. "Perhaps I should also add a layer of anti-magic mixed armor to enhance its resistance to magic and defense. If only I could have some more time, Bear had just entered the Divine Corpse Stage. Although its sensitivity to my mental induction has become quite acute, its judgment of external situations is still at a rudimentary level. Often, it still requires my mental suggestions to perform complex actions, which greatly affects its combat capability."

Sometimes Komer felt that his expectations were too high. For an Undead Mage to achieve the Golden Corpse Stage in just a few years was already sensational news in the magic world. Ordinary Undead Mages, even after decades of exploration, might not reach this threshold, yet he had leaped from the Golden Corpse Stage to Divine Corpse Level, a feat that could only be described as a genius that dazzles.

However, all this seemed trivial compared to the pressure from Caesar. Komer considered himself confident, but that did not mean he could be arrogantly complacent. He still had not figured out how to deal with Caesar and the force of the Windriding Knights.

Whether it was the Black Flame Knights, Uma and Shatima, or even the elite of the Three Knights combined with the Eagle of Basarabia, gathering them might not be enough to withstand the opponent’s assault. What he could do now was to make use of the home-field advantage, maximize his strengths, and weaken the opponent’s dominance, in hopes of gaining the power to counterattack.

Komer gazed deeply at the somewhat gloomy sky outside the window. Newman and the others were currently actively excavating the Star Magic Array in the courtyard. This ancient magic array was overly complex and exquisite. Newman had previously spent a lot of effort on this array and, although he had not completely figured out the operational rules of the magic array, he had made substantial progress, especially in how to drive the operation of the Star Magic Array.

Now, how to lure those proud knights of the Windriding Knights into the trap and use the Star Magic Array to blunt their sharpness and drain their power was vital. Even if it could not deal with Caesar, it would still be quite effective against other Windriding Knights.

Xerob still had not given him a definitive answer, but Komer believed that the other party would not be shortsighted to such an extent. However, whether Xerob would come to support him in person was difficult to say.

For the first time, Komer felt unsure of himself. Ever since he had gradually wanted to disassociate from the Dark Holy Church and play the role of a secular ruler, his relationship with Xerob had become somewhat delicate. Although he still accepted the supreme title of Dark Lord bestowed by the Dark Holy Church, in reality, Komer was subtly diluting his dark essence, something both Komer and Xerob were aware of, but neither wanted to disclose.

Everything was in preparation for this inevitable battle. Caesar truly was someone to look forward to, Komer silently thought. To make him prepare so meticulously, looking across the Continent, perhaps only Julius could compare to Caesar. To gather such elites, if he still ended in failure, then it would simply be fate.

Komer found himself surprisingly calm now, as if he was looking forward to that day’s arrival, ready to face victory or defeat with equanimity.
