Chapter 1030: Volume 33, Where to Go, Chapter 18, The Battle that Sways the City (1)

Komer’s face was exceptionally calm, but that was just an illusion he put on in front of Clark·Dos; in fact, after Clark·Dos had explained his reasons for coming, a tempest nearly rose within Komer, almost causing him to lose his composure.

Wind Riders? Caesar? The Religious Court was actually able to enlist their help? Weren’t they Julius’s direct forces, difficult for anyone to mobilize? How could Noyola, that madman, command them without Julius’s orders? The idea seemed utterly unbelievable.

However, Komer believed that Clark·Dos was not mad enough to travel a great distance to spread a false message just for the sake of amusing himself by teasing Komer a bit.

After Clark·Dos had been sent away, Komer finally turned his gaze to the silent leader of the Mage Corps—Rebry.

"What do you think? Is it possible? I mean, could Caesar accept Noyola’s orders to come after me?"

Komer stood up and began pacing rapidly around the room, a rare occurrence; it was only in the face of particularly urgent and thorny issues that he would resort to pacing to relieve his stress.

"Lord Komer, it’s not a question of whether it’s possible or not, your reaction has already told me that you believe Clark·Dos’s words."

Rebry seemed much calmer; perhaps his long history of being subjected to life’s vicissitudes had accustomed him to the onslaught of storms, so even news as impactful as this was not an unacceptable reality for him.

"What about you, Rebry? Don’t tell me you have no opinion or that whatever I think is what you think—that kind of nonsense." Komer was not satisfied with Rebry’s evasive answer.

"Caesar is a very unique individual. Ever since I met him, I’ve felt he is both completely transparent and yet utterly opaque."

Rebry said leisurely, "Never try to stand shoulder to shoulder with Caesar. This is a maxim within the Church of Light, for his power surpasses everyone else’s, even Trajan could hardly reach his level."

"So, you’re saying he is invincible?" Komer smiled faintly, not intimidated by Rebry’s words. Although he respected Rebry’s opinions, he didn’t feel compelled to agree with them.

"Not quite. The two Sword Saints might possess the strength to fight him, but those two seem to have long vanished from the secular world; we rarely see them, whereas Caesar is always visible—if you go to Marco, if you visit the Sky Garden, you can see him anytime." Rebry shook his head, seeing that Komer did not fully believe in his perspective.

"Let’s get back to the main issue, shall we? Would Caesar collaborate with those madmen from the Court?"

Komer cared more about this question than about how formidable Caesar himself was. In his mind, the threat that the Wind Riders as a group posed to him was the greatest concern.

The Black Flame Knights’ strength undoubtedly could not contend with them, and even gathering the elite of the Three Great Knights, including Lecler, might not be enough to withstand a full-on strike from the Wind Riders, unless...

"Under normal circumstances, he shouldn’t. But now that Sir Julius is in seclusion, Caesar can determine his actions based on his own judgment. If Noyola persuades Caesar, although this possibility is very small, or if Caesar himself feels that the current situation demands his presence, which is quite likely, then Caesar could join forces with anyone as long as he believes the Wind Riders alone are not absolutely certain of winning. Caesar is not a rigid person; he doesn’t mind what people think of him, so the usual constraints don’t work on him."

Rebry’s words weighed heavily on Komer’s heart. From what Rebry said, Komer could tell that Caesar was not a stickler for tradition and could even be described as quite accommodating. However, once his opinion was set, it would be extremely difficult to reverse it. This made Caesar very dangerous; regardless of how eloquently Komer might speak, he feared Caesar would still not be convinced.

"So, you’re saying there’s a considerable possibility?" Komer took a deep breath. If that was the case, he would have to immediately start devising a way to deal with this greatest crisis since his exile by Philip.

Rebry fell silent for a moment, as if weighing the import of Komer’s last remark.

"I’m afraid we have to prepare for the worst," Rebry eventually nodded and said.

"Hmm, I understand," Komer stood up, spun around, and then declared resolutely, "What’s destined to come will always come; there’s no use in hiding. We can only face it."

"But Lord Komer, Caesar is not just anyone. The Wind Riders are even stronger than the Bohemia Court Mage Knights. In Nicosia, we don’t have the strength to contend with them."

Rebry shook his head. As a man who had spent over a decade within the Church of Light, he was acutely aware of the combat prowess of Caesar and the Wind Riders. Secular knight orders like the Homer Knights were as helpless as infants against them.

"Hmph, I know Caesar is very powerful, and even his Sacred Heart Knights are ferocious, but that’s not a reason for us to flee. We must face this battle head-on. We have no other choice unless we’re prepared to give up everything we have now," Komer said decisively.

Rebry sighed gently, knowing that his advice would not change anything. This was Komer, after all.

"Then, Lord Komer, we may have to use all the power at our disposal, and even if we manage to get through this, I fear we will pay an exceedingly heavy price, possibly beyond our imagination."

"I understand, but we have no other choice," Komer nodded, his expression remaining calm as ever, "Exhaust all resources, fight to the death."

A series of magical and pegasus-sent messages were quickly dispatched. On the surface, Ugru remained unchanged; business as usual. However, a closer look would reveal a certain tension creeping over Ugru. More than a dozen high-ranking knights from the Three Great Knights regiments arrived in succession, while knights from the Black Flame Knights had long been stationed at Damarlinsk Castle.

Damarlinsk Castle seemed to be bustling with people. Newman and his group appeared to be busy day and night, his figure flickering everywhere on the castle square. Uma was nowhere to be seen, but at night when all was quiet, faint, eerie sounds could be heard drifting up from the underground passages of the castle, sending chills down one’s spine.
