Chapter 99. Leave Your Fangs
Chapter 99: 99. Leave Your Fangs
Jael stood up from where he sat on the rock and began to make his back to the castle. He had stayed out longer than he had intended to but he did not regret it. He walked steadily not picking up his pace, however, he still got to the castle faster than he wanted to.
Just before he walked into the castle, he ran into Danag, Erick, and Damon on their way back from patrol. It was almost time for lunch.
"Sire," Danag called in horror as soon as he caught sight of Jael. "You left the castle? What about the guests coming in today?"
"It was only for a couple of minutes, Danag. How did it go?"
They all shook their heads. "Nothing, not even a hint," Danag said.
"I see that should be enough until at least the party is over and the guests have dispersed. Until then, don’t go past the fence."
"Yes, Sire." They said in unison.
Damon went ahead and threw the front doors open. Jael walked in while the rest filed in behind him. He walked with purpose to the stairs and just as he took the first step, the front door was thrown open.
Jael turned around to see Lord Garth and beside him was his mate, Lady Arora. Lord Garth was one of the older vampires. His younger daughter rushed forward, Jael couldn’t remember her name.
"Your grace," she called.
Jael stepped down the stairs and walked a little closer. Danag and Damon immediately bowed to the guests.
"Welcome," he said. "Lord Garth," the older vampire bowed. "Lady Arora," she curtsied, smiling at him. "Lady?" He asked, gesturing at her.
"Helana," she replied and rushed at him. She stopped about two feet away from him and curtsied.
"I am glad you could make it here."
He could feel Helana’s gaze on him. She looked like she was about to jump him.
"Lady Sabrina will appear before the sunrise, she was held back." Lady Arora explained.
"That’s fine." He knew Lady Sabrina, she was their eldest daughter, and he has met her a couple of times.
The servants rushed out of their quarters and bowed to him and then the guests.
"Do follow them, they will lead you to your home and if anything isn’t to your liking, don’t hesitate to let them know. Thank you for coming all this way."
Jael watched the guards lead them up the opposite set of stairs, Lady Helana had been hesitant to leave but she finally and as she walked away she turned back to look waving vigorously. He didn’t wave back.
He turned to the guards. "You can do as you like. Having you guys follow me around is a little unnerving. If you have nothing to do, help the servants."
"Um Sire, Our room is in the direction you’re heading," Danag explained.
He glared at them and walked up the stairs. As soon as he got to the top. He froze, something was wrong. He could tell immediately. What solidified this train of thought was the soft scream that rang out. It was loud enough to attract any attention but Jael had been listening.
Jael was moving before her voice even registered. He pushed open the door and the first thing he got a whiff of was Mauve’s blood. She was bleeding.
He looked inside to see Seraphino standing in front of her while she was leaning backward, low enough to hurt her back. Her hand was on her neck and he could see blood.
Jael ran, hands out and he landed a solid punch on the side of Seraphino’s jaw. The punch pushed him away from her and Jael pulled her to him, holding her tightly.
"Are you out of your mind? Has stale blood made you mad that you think you can touch mine?" Jael’s eyes glowed in the dark, his anger unhidden.
Seraphino rubbed the side of his bleeding lips, "What are you talking about, Sire? Vampires share blood slaves all the time."
"She is not a blood slave!" His voice echoed in the room. "And you need permission for that."
"From the way you sound, you would have never given it to me." He licked his fangs and his eyes trailed to Mauve.
Jael felt his neck tic, his free hand made a fist. The sole reason he wasn’t pummeling Seraphino to the ground was that he wasn’t about to cause a commotion.
"Sire," Danag’s horrified voice called from the doorway behind him was Damon and Erick. They all looked ready for battle "What is the matt..."
"Take him away from here," Jael bit the inside of his cheeks.
"Yes, Sire." Danag replied and walked into the room.
"You don’t have to," he smirked. "I was just on my way out." He licked his fangs, which were still engorged, and adjusted his clothes. He walked slowly, never taking his eyes off Mauve until he could look at her again.
"Stop!" Jael said when Seraphino got close enough.
"Yes, Sire." He grinned.
"Leave your fangs," Jael ordered.
"Surely, you don’t mean that Sire."
"Seraphino, I have every right to rip your throat open and kick you out of my castle. You should be grateful that all I am asking is for your fangs."
"Yes, our kind and merciful King."
He spun around so he and Jael made eye contact and then proceeded to pull out his fangs one at a time.
"You know these take forever to grow, Sire. However, I can’t say it wasn’t worth it." He said and stretched out his palm that held the two elongated incisors.
Jael clamped harder on his cheeks but he lost control and punched Seraphino in his guts. It wasn’t a hard punch as he had used his non-dominant hand while holding onto Mauve. Still, it was hard enough for Seraphino to gasp in pain.
"Toss it on your way out and Danag, make sure he doesn’t roam around without an escort. Put a guard on him, don’t let him out of your sight. As soon as the party is over, I want you out of here, if you’re not I will assume you want me to attack you with everything I have got."
