The Vampire King's Possession -
Chapter 93. A Young Paler.
Chapter 93: 93. A Young Paler.
Jael’s reaction was instantaneous, he turned left through the trees, towards the Paler’s direction.
"Sire," Danag called. "Don’t set out alone."
Jael wasn’t listening, he picked up his pace, losing his guards in seconds. Suddenly, he stopped and took a whiff of the air. His senses and nose were telling him the paler was nearby but he couldn’t see anything.
Jael heard the shift of the wind and something dropped on his shoulder. His reaction was a bit delayed as he didn’t think the Paler was above him and it grabbed his neck, its grip tightening immediately.
Jael grabbed its head and pulled, flinging the creature. Its back hit the nearest tree and a whimper escaped its lips. Jael moved immediately, leg running and hands out as he made to punch the Paler.
He jumped as he got close enough, having gathered enough momentum and brought his hand down but the Paler had already recovered and it easily dodged the attack.
His punch made a hole right through the tree. Jael cursed and pulled out his hand. The tree remained standing even with a busted trunk.
Jael twirled his wrist, annoyed that he had missed. The paler was about ten feet away from him on all fours. Its long tongue stuck out to its chin, all wet and dripping. Its fangs were in a zigzag shape, with its incisors the longest of them, almost twice the size of the rest of its fangs.
Its eyes were in a state of perpetual shock and its black pupil was a dot compared to the rest of its eyeballs. It was the only thing dark about its features. Its hair was as white as its skin.
Its eyes darted to the left and right as it studied Jael. It moved sideways, never taking its eyes off Jael like a hunter sizing up its prey. Jael cracked his neck from side to side and took off.
The paler reacted immediately, raising its hands as it tried to scratch Jael. Jael bent, narrowly avoiding the attack. He grabbed one of the wrists and swung the paler against the nearby tree.
The tree shattered on impact and Jael felt a sharp pain as the paler dug its other set of claws into the back of his palm. Jael winced in pain, not comprehending how the Paler could still move its hand even though it saw spinning in the air.
He didn’t let go despite the pain and smacked the creature against the ground. Palers were annoying to fight. They fought like wild animals, with no tactics, just claws, and fangs coming at you.
The problem was, their fangs were venomous to vampires. A bite was enough to stop a vampire from healing. A fatal wound could be drastic, the vampire was sure to bleed out and die.
Enough human blood was needed to neutralize the venom but only if given on time. However, considering how haphazardly these creatures fought, it was arduous to completely avoid getting bitten.
Jael winced as the creature slipped out of his grasp, he rushed after it, hoping to attack it as it lay on the ground but the creature got up quickly, black blood dripping down the side of its lips.
It rushed after Jael, its mouth open as it aimed for Jael’s head. Jael stood still as he timed the attack and just before the paler could reach his head, he punched upwards.
His fist made contact with its lower jaw and Jael heard a loud cracking sound. The paler staggered backward. Jael didn’t slow down. He charged at it and grabbed its head, he brought it down on his knee.
The paler fell to the ground and he stumped on his head, his leg crushing his skull. The paler lay on the ground spurting black blood out of its crushed head as the rest of its body jerked controllably.
"Sire," Danag’s voice echoed in the night.
"You are late," Jael said without turning to look at them.
"We didn’t want to interrupt the fight and distract you."
"It was a young paler," Jael said. He knew without a doubt that if the paler had been slightly experienced, the fight would have gone very differently.
"Ugh!" Erick muttered at the sight in front of him.
"Please, sire. Refrain from setting off alone."
"If I had needed help with this paler, it would have been worrisome Danag."
"Well, at least use a weapon. You are the reason Damon fights without one." Danag complained.
"My hands work just fine, Danag." He spat.
It stopped moving and Jael bent and pulled out its right hand, completely separating it from its shoulder. Jael knew if it didn’t have a crushed skull, it would be screaming.
"Ugh!" Erick repeated. "I hate this part."
Jael did the same to the hands and moved to the legs. It was annoying that they couldn’t die, nothing could kill them, nothing except sunlight. As soon as the sun was out, they would turn to ash and no traces of them would be found.
The only option they had was to weaken it enough that it would not heal before sunrise. However, as Jael pulled the last of its limbs he worried about this. There was still a full seven hours before sunrise even the weakest of Palers would heal in that time frame.
"Erick tie it up," he ordered.
"Why me?" He asked but he was already moving.
He pulled the rope that was around his waist and untied it. "Damon!" He called with a glare. "Lift it!"
Damon stood unmoving.
"Damon!" He called again but Damon didn’t answer.
"Sire," he looked at Jael.
Jael stared back with a scowl on his face. "Erick, if you can’t handle a limbless paler. Don’t you see that there might be a problem?"
"I am not saying I can’t but it will definitely be faster if I have help."
Damon walked towards him and pulled the rope out of his grasp.
"Hey!" Erick yelled.
But Damon didn’t say a word. He picked up the paler with one arm and stuck its body to a nearby tree. He wrapped the rope around it in a speed-like manner and tied it.
"This should hold," he said stiffly and walked away from the paler.
"There are still a lot of hours before sunrise, wouldn’t it completely recover before then?" Erick asked.
"Let us hope not," Jael mumbled.
The paler jerked and they all became alert but its movements stopped immediately.
"Let’s hope not," Danag repeated.
Jael turned and started walking away, they knew better than to take it with them. It was better to tie it up somewhere far, somewhere it couldn’t track your steps if it didn’t die. They were resilient and a pain in the ass.
They made their way to the castle, it was almost time for the second meal, he could always resume the patrol after that. He wanted to skip it but he had guests, and he needed to be in attendance.
Jael got in front of the doors and Damon threw the doors open. Seraphino’s date was making her way to the dining hall and she yelped at the sight of him.
Jael knew he must look like a mess. He could vaguely recall some of the paler’s blood splashing onto his face. However, washing the blood was easy, it was the smell that was annoying, and it would take a lot to get it off.
"I want my bath water ready now!" He said to nobody in particular as he went up the stairs.
He got to his room in no time and soon enough a knock was heard. He opened up and two servants walked in. One with a tub, another with a bowl and a bucket of water. Jael took off his clothes before the servants and handed his bloodied items to one of them.
He bowed and accepted them graciously before they room fled the room. Jael scrubbed hard with the soap and rag. Rubbing hard against his face.
He winced as soap got into an open wound, he had not realized he had gotten cut. It must have been when the bastard held his neck.
The cut was already healing but was healing fast enough. He rubbed at the back of his palm. It should be completely healed in an hour or so. Jael frowned, he would have to wrap it for the second meal.
He got out of the tub, dripping water everywhere, and wiped himself. He got dressed, he had picked the usual. A pair of pants and a loose shirt.
He ripped a cloth and wrapped it around his arm before he set out of the room with his hair still dripping water. He took the stairs two at a time and got in front of the dining hall in a minute.
The guards quickly threw the doors open and he walked in.
"I see your manners have not improved," Lady Marceline’s voice echoed in the hall. "You know better than to keep guests waiting."
