The Vampire King's Possession
Chapter 92. Lord Seraphino

Chapter 92: 92. Lord Seraphino

"Mauve."

"Yes," she heard herself say with her head still bent.

"Mill said you might be ill."

Mauve nodded. "It is just for today, I should feel better in a couple of hours or at most by tomorrow night."

No response.

Mauve raised her head when he didn’t respond to see him turning around the side of her bed. He walked close enough and sat next to her.

"It is unfortunate that you can go to the rooftop during this period. However, as soon as the party is over and the guests have gone, you can roam around however you like."

He softly touched her cheeks and she rested her head on his palm. Why hadn’t he used this approach when he told her she could leave the room?

He had given the order and when she had questioned him about it, he had shut her down. She couldn’t wait for this period to be over because it felt as if she was with a completely different person.

"So, I won’t meet any of the vampires?" She asked.

It wasn’t that she was interested in the vampires but she wanted to meet at least one of his family or friends. She knew absolutely nothing about him except that his parents died.

If Lady Marceline hadn’t intruded into her room, she most likely would have never met her. She couldn’t understand why she was something he had to hide.

"It is best you don’t."

"Why?" She frowned and looked up at his face.

He immediately pulled his hand away. "What about family? An aunt or an uncle perhaps."

"I have no family and you have met the only person related to me by blood. Get some rest. This conversation is over."

"Will you come after sunrise?"

Jael stared blankly at her. "You are sick. It is best you’re left alone to recover. Besides, I don’t think you are in any condition for that." He said and his eyes trailed her body.

"That isn’t what I mean!" She glared at him.

"Mill will bring you some books, let her know whatever you need, and don’t leave this room. You do like to go against my orders sometimes but assure you that now is not the time. The consequences will be grave."

Mauve brought her head down, she didn’t need him to tell her that. She could tell that it would be to her detriment to go against his will at this time.

"I know," she pouted.

"Be a good girl and I’ll treat you when all this is over." His hands trailed her shoulders as he spoke.

She lay on the bed and covered her head with the sheets. "Don’t you have somewhere to be," her cheeks were burning.

"I guess," he said and stood up.

Mauve heard the door shut and pulled the sheet down. She hated that Jael did have some effect on her but still, she didn’t like the fact that he wouldn’t tell her anything.

Unfortunately, she knew now was not the time to pry. She knew it would only get on his nerves and she had seen Jael angry, she never wanted to be on the receiving end of his anger.

(...)

Jael closed the door and touched his head. He was on his last thread and attending to a pet was exhausting especially with the rush of negative emotions he had. However, he knew he couldn’t upset her in any way. Keeping her happy would favor him immensely.

Jael got to the top of the stairs when he heard the doors open. He frowned, he was too far away to sense the presence of another and was quite shocked as the door opened.

The open doors revealed Seraphino Trenton and Jael felt his already sour mood worse. He didn’t expect Seraphino to show up at all, let alone this early. However, that wasn’t the only problem, the vampire Lord wasn’t alone.

Vampires only show up with a crew when they intend to start up something and even if they had no intention of doing that, this Seraphino had nothing but bad intentions.

"What are you doing here?" Jael asked from the top of the stairs. His voice thundered in the open space.

Seraphino turned around and when his face rested on Jael, his face broke into a nasty smile. He bowed mockingly. The rest of his crew also bowed.

They consisted of six members, five guards, and a petite vampire. She looked too young to be a part of his guards. Jael squinted his eyes as he wondered what Lord’s daughter she was.

"Whatever do you mean, sire? You invited me." Still bowing, Seraphino lifted just his head to look at Jael.

Jael was down the stairs in two seconds. "Don’t you think you are a little too early? Besides, are you sure you are here for the party? I remember inviting just you."

"I figured, it was better to be early than not show up at all." Seraphino stood to his full height. "And I wanted to be here in time for breakfast but I guess I just missed it. Herbert does make the finest meals. I will trade him for all of my cooks in a blink of an eye but you will never give him up."

Jael walked closer, "Herbert isn’t something to give up."

"I know but I am sure if you put in a good word for me, he would listen to your orders."

Jael didn’t respond, just glared at him.

Seraphino raised his hand, "A joke only, sire." He chuckled.

Jael ran his eyes over the guards that still had their heads bent. He couldn’t feel anything off them but he knew they were strong enough to be an actual nuisance. He didn’t need this, this early.

"This," Seraphino gestured to the five guards behind him as he noticed Jael stare. "Are just precautions. Just to be safe, I hear Palers are running rampant these days."

Jael squinted at the accusations but didn’t acknowledge them.

"As for her," he said and pulled the younger vampire close to his chest. "A date, nobody shows up to a party with a date now and for three days, you definitely know what I mean."

"I couldn’t care less about what you mean."

The young vampire darted her eyes from side to side, Jael could only guess that she was around the same age as Mill.

At that moment, servants rushed out toward the door where Seraphino stood with his crew. "Your grace," they all cried in unison when they saw him.

"Lord Seraphino," they called out immediately after.

Jael started to walk away. "Lead them to their room and Seraphino you know better than to start any trouble."

"Of course, sire. I wouldn’t want to go against the one true king." His voice dripped with sarcasm.

Jael didn’t stop his stride, just continued walking. He walked past Seraphino and out the open doors. Jael turned around and soon got to where Damon, Danag, and Erick were waiting.

"We just saw Seraphino," Erick announced and soon Jael appeared within earshot.

"I know, I am not blind Erick."

"My Lord, is it safe to leave with him in the castle?"

Jael squinted his eyes, "I have no plans to give up the patrol because of him and there are enough guards left to prevent any trouble."

"Yes, Sire. I am sorry to have suggested such."

"Shall we?" He said, his voice still holding a hint of annoyance.

"Of course."

Jael took off before any of them, he headed north. They really had no destination. They were just going to run around and try to see if he could sense or smell any paler nearby.

He doubted there would be any as they had done the patrol last night and had come up short. This was expected for the past week, they had done nothing but run around the castle and further.

He knew this was a waste of time and Danag had said so but he would lose his mind if he had to spend another minute in the castle and now that Seraphino was around, it was bound to get even more annoying.

He could only imagine how the second meal would be. He winced at the thought of it. Lady Marceline was already a handful

He wished he could have it in the confines of his room but as King, he was not allowed that kind of luxury. Vampire Lords were draining to be around.

Jael swore, they have been running for more than thirty minutes and he had not sensed any paler. He needed to let out some steam if he didn’t his temper would only worsen.

This was not good, he needed this party to go off without a hitch. It would determine a lot of things. Who would remain on his side? They would only follow him as long as it benefited them, he needed to show them that it will.

Jael sensed a faint sensation followed by a faint smell. There was doubt about this. Palers smell like a body on the verge of rotting and this was without any doubt the smell of a paler.
