Chapter 85. A Barrel Of Juice
Chapter 85: 85. A Barrel Of Juice
"Good, you are awake," Mill said as she walked through the door.
Mauve stretched out her hands to Mill, opening and closing her palms. Mill smiled at her and walked even faster. She placed the tray across her legs as Mauve moved to a sitting position.
She was wearing her nightdress again, Jael must have put it back on while she was asleep. She was not surprised when she woke up and he was gone. This was the usual.
Mauve wasted no time in digging into the meal. She ate with gusto, only pausing to take a breath as she ate while Mill stood beside the bed watching her with a smile on her lips.
Mauve drank half the cup of water, she wasn’t done eating and was still hungry but at least she no longer felt as if she would die if she didn’t eat.
"Thank you, Mill."
"You’re welcome."
"How did you know to bring me some food?" She put some in her mouth but chewed slowly this time.
"His grace said I should and that if you were still asleep, I should wake you up to eat." Mill slightly bent her head. "He wasn’t pleased when he heard you didn’t eat before bed."
Mauve froze as she brought the food to her lips. "How did he know?"
"I don’t know but he asked to confirm."
"Did he scold you?" She asked, looking up at Mill.
"No, but he might as well have. Do not skip your meals, please."
"I won’t, I’m sorry. I just didn’t have much of an appetite."
"I understand but when you don’t feel like eating you can always just eat a little, instead of going to sleep on an empty stomach or you can request something else. I don’t mind making you a different meal. Don’t hesitate to make the request."
Mauve could only nod at Mill’s words. From the way the vampire sounded, she hated the exchange with Jael, and Mauve was sad that she was the reason Mill had to go through that.
Mill smiled again but it didn’t reach her eyes. "I will be right back." She said and started walking towards the door.
"Okay," Mill replied and watched her leave before she resumed eating her meal.
A soft knock and the door opened to reveal Mill holding a barrel. Mauve’s mouth fell open. "W-w-why?" She stuttered. "What is that for?" She asked, her eyes wide with shock.
Mill didn’t say anything until she dropped the barrel on the bedside table. She uncorked it, picked up the empty cup, and poured some into it. She handed the cup to Mauve.
"It is freshly made," she announced.
Mauve blinked but didn’t reach out to accept the cup. "It still doesn’t explain why an entire barrel of wine is in my room?"
Mauve looked from Mill to the barrel and then back to Mill. The vampire looked unfazed and just continued to push the cup in front of Mauve.
"Technically, it is juice. It hasn’t gone through the fermentation process yet."
Mauve frowned, "Juice or not. Why is an entire barrel in my room? A cup is fine."
Mauve frown deepened, she couldn’t comprehend why Mill wasn’t answering the question and was just shoving the cup in her face.
"Sire’s orders," Mill muttered and offered the cup again.
Mauve eyes turned to slits, she knew Jael was behind this. "I can’t finish a barrel of juice."
"You won’t know until you try," Mill said with a hint of a smirk on her lips.
"I would explode before it reduces to half."
"The sire orders. He said to make sure you drink lots of liquid." Mill said with a blank expression that literally said ’not my problem’.
"Yes, not an entire barrel, Mill."
"Well, would you like to take it up with his grace?" She blinked rapidly and stared hard at Mauve.
Mauve scoffed and looked away. Mill pushed the cup once again in Mauve’s face and Mauve accepted it with a scowl. She drank the content in one drink and dropped the glass onto the tray with a loud sound.
Mill immediately picked it up, filled it, and handed it back to Mauve. Mauve looked at her with an unimpressed look. She accepted it but didn’t drink it, instead, she placed it back on the tray.
"Would you like to have your bath now, princess?" Mill plastered a smile on her face as she picked up the tray.
"No, I am going back to sleep."
"Yes, that’s good. You should get some rest."
"Thank you, Mill." Mauve said with a stiff smile.
"You’re welcome, Mauve." She said with a softer smile. "Don’t forget to drink."
She leaned against the headboard and glared at Mill.
"Ring the bell if you need anything, I’ll be right on your doorstep." Mill said and walked out of the room.
Mauve looked to her table and picked the already poured juice. She took a sip and rolled it around her tongue. It was nice juice. Still, the fact that Jael actually expected her to finish this was annoying.
She empty the content and touched her forehead. It was hurting. Now that she wasn’t starving anymore she would feel a slight headache. Her eyes felt a little hard to hold open and she felt quite tired.
She stretched out her arms and then hugged herself. She slid down and covered herself all the way to her shoulders. She closed her eyes as she tried to get some sleep, hoping she would feel better by the time she awoke.
She hated how Jael made her feel, one minute he showed that he cared and the other he didn’t. He gave ridiculous orders but she couldn’t say it wasn’t obvious that it was for her well-being and on the offside, it could just be her trying to look on the bright side of things.
She groaned and rolled to her side, she had to fall asleep soon. If she didn’t, her thoughts would consume her. She didn’t want to have to think about her worries.
