Chapter 86. Inauspicious Reasons

Chapter 86: 86. Inauspicious Reasons

Mauve sat in front of the dresser as Mill brushed her hair, she felt so much better. The headache was gone and she had enough energy to run up and down a hill.

"You should drink more juice, Mauve." Mill randomly announced.

Mauve spun and glared at her. "Enough juice talk. I still have the rest of the night, I’ll drink more at some point."

"I see," Mill said stiffly as she carefully turned Mauve’s head so Mauve had her back to Mill once again.

"Where would you like to eat?" Mill asked.

"The dining hall, if you will. Thank you."

"Okay, the second meal should be ready in about an hour. I will come to get you then." Mill said.

"I will appreciate it."

"Would you like to eat anything before then?" Mill asked.

"Mill, I appreciate the concern but if I keep eating and drinking as you want me to, I’ll be as big as a house in less than a day."

"Well, that’s because you don’t eat a lot. You eat more fruits than you actually eat food and recently you haven’t been eating that either."

"Yeah," Mauve said softly. Her appetite decreased after Vae left and it even decreased further with Lady Jevera’s appearance.

"I haven’t really had much of an appetite recently," she mumbled.

"Should I bring you some fruits then? Apples?"

"Two then," she conceded. She did feel bad about not eating before sleeping and then Mill got scolded for it.

Mill’s face immediately lit up. "I will bring it right up. What do you think about your hair?"

Mauve fought the urge to chuckle. Mill only styled in two different ways either tied up or let down. Today, however, her hair was done a bit differently.

She arched to the left and right as she got a good view. Mill had loosely tied up her hair and had let a few strands fall in front. It was actually a well-done job.

She smiled brightly and turned around to look at Mill, "Thank you," she said. "It is very pretty."

Mill nodded at her and walked away. Mauve assumed she was leaving the room but she walked to the bedside and poured out more juice and handed it to Mauve.

Mauve glared at her but accepted it. She took a sip as Mill remained standing in front of her. "Happy now?" She asked.

Mauve nodded, "I will return with the apples."

Mauve turned away from her so she was facing the mirror again. She heard the door open and close before she place the cup on the dresser table. She looked at the open curtains. The moon was out and it shone brightly.

The moonlight was streaming in and she was tempted to toss the contents out the window. However, she knew she wouldn’t do that. She would drink as best as she could but there was no way in hell she would finish the barrel contents.

She heard the knock barely two minutes later, "Come in." She called out.

Mill walked in and Mauve turned to look at her. She held a bowl and in the bowl were five apples. Mauve did not hide her displeasure.

"I said, two apples, Mill." When the vampire placed it on the dresser.

"I know but I figured more is better than less."

"More is three, this is more than twice the number I requested."

"True but you can always save it for later." Mill said.

Mauve sighed, at this point, she was starting to think Mill was fattening her for inauspicious reasons.

"Fine," she replied and picked one.

The apple was as big as her open palm, it was a shiny red that even the candlelight didn’t dull its color. She grabbed it and brought it close to her lips. She took a big bite and made a soft sound as the juice invaded her throat.

"Would you like anything else?" Mill asked.

"No, thank you." She said between chewing. "I’ll take my leave now." I will be back in an hour."

Mauve watched her go as she chewed on the apple. She finished the first one in no time and immediately picked another one.

(...)

Mauve walked slowly as she stood up from her seat. She was full, full enough to burst. It was her fault for eating all the apples. However, she had not been able to control herself.

To make matters worse as soon as her drink went lower than half, Mill was quick to add more. She was surprised she could stand.

She was so full that she had not been able to stand up from the chair immediately, she had to give herself a couple of minutes for her stomach to settle.

She held her dress up as she walked out of the dining hall. She couldn’t afford to fall, she feared if she still her stomach might burst.

The guards held the door open and she walked out. She nodded to them but as always didn’t expect a response back. She walked through the ballroom to the stairs.

She climbed the stairs carefully, one hand gripping the railing while another held up her dress. She was wearing a blue dress. It hung around her shoulders and even brought out her small bosom.

Mauve grinned as she looked down, it wasn’t a lot of cleavage but it gave the illusion that it was. The dress was a perfect fit around the torso but now that she was overfed, it felt slightly uncomfortable.

She got to the door of her bedroom but instead of going in, she walked past it and knocked on Jael’s study.

No response.

She knocked again.

"Come in," she heard his gruff voice say. He didn’t sound pleased about the interruption.

Mauve twisted her fingers, maybe this was a bad idea but Jael didn’t show up for dinner and now that she knew where he was she couldn’t help herself.

She swallowed and turned the door’s handle. She pushed open the door and walked in.
