Chapter 730. I am not Angry
Chapter 730: 730. I am not Angry
By the time Mauve was ready to leave Sabrina’s room, she was mentally exhausted. Sabrina was a whirlwind that never stopped, and all she did was tease Mauve about the question she had asked without answering it. However, Mauve didn’t press further. If there was indeed someone Sabrina was interested in, she didn’t think the vampire would have any problem getting them.
"Are you sure you don’t want me to see you off to your room?" Sabrina offered as she walked Mauve to the door of her bedroom.
"There is no need for that. Besides, I won’t be going to my bedroom. I want to go see Jael."
Mauve watched Sabrina visibly shrink at the mention of Jael. Was she that scared of him? Mauve couldn’t help the frown that appeared on her face. Was it because Jael was scary, or did Sabrina have a reason to be afraid of him? Mauve quickly squashed the thought. All the talk of trust was making her paranoid.
"Oh, okay. I will see you at the last meal then, and tell the Primus I won’t stay long. I am sure he is very displeased about my presence."
"No, he is not. He’s just cautious. I promise that you can stay as long as you want; you don’t have to rush away. You only just got here."
"Thank you, my lady," Sabrina said as she opened the door.
"I should be the one thanking you," Mauve smiled and slipped through the door.
"Bye," Sabrina said.
Mauve replied with a bye of her own just as the door shut behind her. She smiled at the door. It was almost time for her walk. Jael should be returning to the castle any time now; if she went to her room, he wouldn’t notice she had left it.
"I was looking for you."
Mauve almost jumped out of her skin. It was a miracle she didn’t scream. "Jael," she jerked her head in his direction.
Jael raised a brow. "Why are you so surprised?"
She placed her hand on her chest. "I didn’t hear you coming."
"I thought you said you’d see her tomorrow?" Jael asked and glanced at the door.
"I—I had some free time on my hands, and I thought it wouldn’t hurt to do that now."
"Really?" Jael asked with an emotionless expression. "And you didn’t think to inform me?"
"It was an impulsive thought," she whispered.
"We both know you rarely have impulsive thoughts." He grabbed her hands and started to pull her away. "What did you talk about?"
"Nothing specific, mostly about the pregnancy," Mauve added the last part because she knew Jael wouldn’t be very pleased with her vague response, but she didn’t know how to tell him about the conversation they had.
"I see," he mumbled.
"Are you angry?" Mauve asked when he didn’t say anything more, just led her down the stairs.
He turned to look at her with suspicion in his eyes. "Should I be?"
"No," Mauve shook her head. "I was just wondering."
Jael sighed and turned away. "I am not angry. I just thought you’d be in your room getting some rest."
"I don’t need that much rest. I am fine."
"Okay, I believe you, but I would be lying if I said her presence doesn’t piss me off."
"She doesn’t mean anything bad by it, and Lord Phelan’s son is here."
Jael frowned. "What has that got to do with anything?"
"I was worried you were angrier about the fact that her father is a lord."
"Corbin has a reason to be here," Jael replied.
"Maybe but I am sure his father is already aware of the situation. This is no different."
"It is," Jael said. "Corbin is already here for a reason. Sabrina’s arrival might give the lords the idea that they too can show up unannounced. Also, rumors will continue to remain rumors until an outsider confirms them, as she has done."
"I am sorry," Mauve blurted, and Jael looked like he was about to lose his mind.
"Just what are you apologizing for now? How is this your fault?" he asked darkly.
"I didn’t think about that," she replied.
Jael moved his hand to his hair and stopped himself. "I am not angry, I promise. Besides, I can handle anything that would dare come our way, so there is no need for you to apologize or be worried."
Mauve nodded. She knew they couldn’t keep this under wraps for much longer, and she knew Jael must be quite angry about Sabrina’s presence, especially after she heard his reasons. But she couldn’t help but be happy that someone heard she might be pregnant and the first thought was to come visit her. It made her feel a little warm inside.
Mauve had thought about telling her brother Malcolm a few times but thought it was a little too early. Maybe when her stomach was more pronounced. He was the only one she wanted to share the news with—or maybe Vae too—but she knew now was not the time. She didn’t even get a reply after expressing her condolences about Vae’s mother’s death.
Mauve’s face hardened. That was also another problem that needed tackling. She had a child on the way, and the fact that they might one day get infected with the White Disease was not something she was pleased about. She needed to find some cure for it.
"I told you I wasn’t angry. You don’t have to look so bothered," Jael said.
Mauve jerked her head to look up at him and then smiled. "I am not bothered. I know you’re not angry. I was just thinking about whether I should tell my brother or if it’s too early."
"You want to tell him now?" Jael asked with a soft frown.
"Not yet," she whispered. "I’ll wait a few more months. Most likely when the pregnancy is more visible."
Jael nodded. "As you want, but Malcolm is family. You don’t have to wait to tell him. You can tell him whenever you want."
"Thank you," Mauve said and leaned on him.
"Oh, do you want me to send for Jean? I have been thinking about it for some days now."
Mauve pulled her head from him and shook her head. "No need for that."
"Are you sure?" he asked.
"Yes." Mauve knew she wouldn’t have the heart to pull him back to the Vampire Region when his wife had just given birth. Besides, she would likely need a midwife more than a physician.
