Chapter 714. Some Kind of Party
Chapter 714: 714. Some Kind of Party
Mauve opened her eyes to see Mill looking at her with a huge smile on her face. "We have to get you ready," she stated.
Mauve immediately realized why she said "we", because not only was Mill not alone, but the other person with her was none other than Sabrina. Mauve sat upright and rubbed her eyes, wondering if this was another weird dream of hers, but the scene didn’t change after rubbing her eyes for the third time.
"What are you two ladies doing here?" That wasn’t the right question. The only person who wasn’t supposed to be here was Sabrina, but Mauve was still too drowsy to ask the proper questions.
"Enough questions, out of the bed now." Sabrina giggled and pulled the sheets away.
Mauve could barely follow what was going on, but it was clearly easier to go with what the ladies wanted than argue and try to figure out what was going on. Grudgingly, she got out of bed, and Mill quickly led her to her room.
"Where is Jael?" she asked as they walked through the connecting door.
"At the first meal," they answered.
"Huh?" Mauve was fully awake now. "Why didn’t you wake me?" she accused Mill.
"The Primus’ orders. He said you had a rough day yesterday and we were not to disturb you. I was going to do just that, but if you sleep any longer, you are going to miss the party."
Mauve yawned and was about to ask what party, but then she remembered today was the day the announcement was to be made. It made sense that it ended up being some kind of party. Vampires liked their parties.
"But why are you here, Sabrina? Aren’t you supposed to be at the first meal?"
"And miss this?" she asked with a shocked expression. "Not a chance in the world."
"It just feels wrong to let you dress me up," Mauve insisted. "There are more than enough servants to help with that." As Mauve said this, she noticed there were a lot more servants in her room than usual. They curtsied to her, each one holding different items. What in the goddess’ name was going on?
"There is nothing wrong with having a little more help," Sabrina stated.
Mauve simply nodded. She didn’t have the energy to argue, and not only had she just woken up, but she was still exhausted from the day before. If Sabrina wanted to help her get ready for the party, who was she to stop her?
"Alright, alright, if you insist."
"I insist," Sabrina replied.
Mauve sealed the rest of her complaints and let them help her get ready. After she was all washed up and before she wore her dress, her food appeared. Mauve stared from Sabrina to Mill.
"Except you want to go the rest of the night without eating anything," Sabrina replied.
"Of course not," she replied and dug in.
"Take your time," Mill said. "There is still some time before you have to appear."
Mauve simply nodded. Maybe if yesterday hadn’t happened, she would be more curious, but right now, all she wanted to do was eat. She was sure whatever this was about, she would be able to deal with it, and the Lords would be gone after. With everything that had happened in the past couple of nights, some quiet would be nice.
"I am full," Mauve said.
"Are you sure?" Both Mill and Sabrina looked at her with concern. "You’ve barely eaten half."
"I am sure," she held eyes with Mill as she spoke, and the vampire got the hint immediately which she was grateful for. She didn’t want to have another spewing spree.
"I am sure that should be fine for now," Mill replied and pointed to a servant to get rid of the dishes. They bowed and cleared the place, taking the half-empty dishes out of the room.
"Now what?" Mauve asked, looking from one to the other.
"We get you dressed," Sabrina squealed.
Mauve could not comprehend why they were so excited. It was just another vampire party. They’d had enough of them that she was sick of them at this point. "Alright," she stood up and walked to the dresser.
Mill rushed to her wardrobe and pulled out a dress Mauve had never seen before. "Is that mine?" she asked with a slight frown as she scrutinized the dress.
"Yes," Mill said and brought the dress closer but didn’t give further explanation.
"No, it’s not."
"Yes, it is," Sabrina interjected.
"I would know my dress," Mauve insisted.
"You just don’t remember because Yasmin made you a lot of dresses at the time."
Mauve frowned, but Mill was still insisting. There was no way she would forget such a dress. It was a pale pink, flowing dress. It had short sleeves and several layers at the skirt. There was no way that dress would have been in her wardrobe and she would have been unaware. Mill was clearly lying, but for the life of her, Mauve could not figure out why. She let the matter rest and allowed the two ladies to dress her up.
It took the two of them equally helping for Mauve to finally fit in the dress. When they were done, she was adorned with jewelry, and her hair was styled. Sabrina was surprisingly good at this, and the two ladies gave her an odd stare.
"What?" she replied, "I used to help my sister all the time. What do you think?" She stepped back for Mauve to get a proper look.
Mauve could scarcely believe her eyes. She brought her gloved hands to her face, then lightly touched her hair. Sabrina had also placed flowers in it, but not too many that they would take away from the style. Her hair was allowed to fall down her shoulders, and some parts were braided to give it a fuller effect.
"Thank you so much," she squealed, "but isn’t this a little too much? I can barely move in this dress."
"Who cares?" Sabrina asked. "All that matters is that you look beautiful. I am sure the Primus’ jaw will drop to the ground when he sees you."
"Of course not," Mauve giggled. "Speaking of Jael, where is he?"
