Chapter 715. Vampire Style
Chapter 715: 715. Vampire Style
Speaking of Jael, where is he? The first meal should have ended a while ago," she asked, looking from Sabrina to Mill. Knowing Jael, he wasn’t the type to stay away for so long. He would have barged into her room already, even though he had no business here, and hung around in the corner staring.
Neither of them answered immediately, as though they were looking for an appropriate response. She frowned and was about to repeat her question when Sabrina spoke up.
"Waiting for you," Sabrina said and strutted closer. "If you are happy with how you look, there is no need for all these questions. Let’s go down to the party."
"But you ladies aren’t even ready," Mauve commented with worry in her eyes.
"It will take us seconds," Sabrina said.
"I don’t like parties," Mill lied.
"You have to be there," Mauve insisted. The last thing she wanted was to be at the party all by herself, especially with the lords who were all clearly displeased with the way things ended yesterday. She had won on all grounds, and she could imagine a lot of them didn’t like that.
"As you wish, my lady," Mill smiled at her and then slowly pushed her toward the door. "Don’t worry, I will be there before you know it."
Sabrina opened the door to reveal Louis dressed up in a coat and a bow. All the women stopped to stare.
"Louis," Mauve spoke, finally finding her voice. "I never would have believed you’d be—"
"Shush," he replied. "I can just tell you’re about to say something I won’t like."
"What?" Mauve called with exaggeration. "I would never," she smirked.
"Let’s go," Louis said and stretched out his hand to her.
Mauve hesitated. She was surprised to see Louis. She hadn’t expected to see anyone, and if she did, she had assumed it would be Jael. She knew things were pretty stiff between the two of them, and she wasn’t sure how they would eventually work it out, but she hoped they would. She was very willing to put aside her own issues if they could move past this.
"Where is Jael?" she asked and looked over his shoulder.
"I will take you to him. You might want to hurry up. I am sure he is tired of waiting at this point."
"Where is he?" she insisted.
"Tsk tsk tsk. Patience has never been your strong suit," Louis remarked with a shake of his head.
"What are you talking about?" Mauve replied angrily, and Sabrina chuckled.
"Just come with me," Louis replied. She rolled her eyes and accepted his hand, fully stepping out of the room. "Isn’t that better?"
"Shut it," she said, and he started walking.
"I know it’s a little too late to say, but you look really beautiful."
"A compliment from you?" Mauve replied with an exaggerated gasp. "I can’t tell if that’s a good omen or a bad one."
"Oh, shush, my lady, and just accept it."
"Thank you, Louis."
Mauve was so engrossed in the conversation with Louis that she didn’t realize where they were until they got to the top of the stairs. Everything froze as she met eyes with Jael, who was standing at the far end of the ground floor. The floor had completely changed.
Chairs had been arranged, and the lords were all gathered. If Mauve were delusional, she would almost assume this was a wedding and Jael was waiting at the pedestal while Louis was here to walk her down the aisle. The lords lined up on both sides, creating the perfect path for her to meet Jael, who looked impatient at the opposite end.
"Why does this look like a wedding?" she asked with a soft laugh as Louis walked her down the stairs.
"Because it is," Louis responded. "You’re getting married, vampire style."
Mauve’s eyes nearly bulged out of her skull as she jerked her head in Louis’s direction. "You’re joking."
"And you’re looking the wrong way. Eyes forward; your mate is waiting for you."
"I thought it was an announcement," she whispered.
"It is," Louis responded. "But what better way to announce this than with a wedding."
"You’re joking."
"My lady, you’re dressed in a flowing dress with flowers in your hair. If this isn’t what happens at a wedding, I don’t know what else to tell you."
"Why didn’t Jael tell me anything?" she whispered. Mauve had tears at the corners of her eyes. She couldn’t believe it.
"Huh? And ruin the surprise? Of course not."
"Why didn’t you tell me anything?"
"I like having my head on my shoulders, thank you very much. Now, enough talking and just enjoy the celebration. It’s all for you." Louis smiled at her, and Mauve could only nod.
She blinked rapidly to stop the tears from falling as she walked to the pedestal with Jael smiling at her. She could see the proud look on his face, and everything else became insignificant. She could remember the first time they had met in such very similar circumstances, but then she had been terrified out of her mind. Right now, she wanted nothing else but to be wedded to the vampire waiting at the end—vampire style, as Louis had said.
She found that she couldn’t stop smiling, and the smile was still on her face when Louis handed her to Jael. He took her hand as she stood facing him.
"You look very pretty," he replied.
"Thank you," she mumbled, suddenly feeling very shy.
"I like that I can see your face," he added.
"I suppose vampires don’t believe in veils," she commented.
"We have no use for them," he stated. "Why should I hide my beautiful mate?"
Kieran cleared his throat, and Mauve was dealt another shocking blow. Kieran was to join them. She had been so oblivious to everything but Jael that she hadn’t even noticed him standing a few feet away.
"Kieran," she whispered.
"In the flesh," he said back to her.
She turned to Jael. "I didn’t know you were a priest?" she whispered.
"What?" Jael chuckled. "No, anyone can lead the procession. Kieran volunteered."
"Thank you," she mumbled.
"Shh," Kieran said, and she nodded, sealing her lips.
