Chapter 662. Confronting Louis
Chapter 662: 662. Confronting Louis
Mauve turned her head to Jael. "Why would I do that?" she asked. "It could be important."
"It’s not, It is Louis," he replied.
"All the more reason why we should answer the door. Louis isn’t one to bother without reason," Mauve said.
"There is no reason why he should be here," Jael said.
"That’s not for you to say. If I was really asleep for that long, I’m sure he is here because he’s worried," Mauve tried to convince Jael.
He shrugged but didn’t say anything.
"If you aren’t going to let him in, I will do it myself."
"Don’t," Jael said, placing his palm on her to hold her down. "I will let him in myself."
She narrowed her eyes at him and nodded. Jael let out a loud sigh before getting out of bed. He took his time walking to the door; it was almost painful to watch. Before he could get to the door, Louis knocked two more times. Halfway through the third knock, Jael pulled the door open.
"What do you want?" he asked darkly, strategically placing himself in the open space to prevent Mauve from seeing Louis and vice versa.
"It’s not you I’m here for," Louis replied.
"Well, I’m all you get."
Louis sighed. "I’m here to check on Mauve."
"She’s fine. Now leave. You’ve checked on her."
"Jael!" Mauve called, and she heard him loudly sigh before stepping aside for Louis to enter.
Louis didn’t waste any time walking past Jael and was in front of Mauve in no time. "You look to be in good health," he said.
She grinned at him. "I am. I feel pretty good."
He smiled at her. "I was absolutely shocked when I heard you wouldn’t wake up."
She shook her head. "I still find it very hard to believe that I was asleep for that long. I truly don’t know what happened. Even if I was that tired, that was a little too long to sleep."
"I’m glad you think so too," he said and gave her a once-over. "Your appetite seems pretty normal," Louis commented as he eyed the empty dishes.
"I didn’t eat this alone," she spat at him.
He laughed. "I didn’t think you did." Louis slowly turned to Jael, and Mauve could see something pass across his face. "I would like to have a word with you, Sire."
"No!" Jael said, sitting on the bed. "If you are done here, you best be on your way."
"It’s important," Louis said, his eyes pleading.
"Jael," Mauve said.
He looked from Mauve to Louis and then back to Mauve. "You are not allowed to leave the room," he ordered.
"What has that got to do with anything? Also, I just woke up. The first thing I want to do is move around."
"No, or no conversation with Louis."
"Fine," she said. "I will wait for you."
"Good," Jael said, pushing himself off the bed.
"Don’t push yourself too much, kiddo," Louis said, turning away.
Mauve smiled stiffly at him, a little ticked off that he called her kiddo, but it wasn’t enough for her to scold him about it. She sat on the bed as she waved both of them away.
She wondered what was so important that Louis had to drag Jael away. She would probably ask him about it, but knowing him, he wouldn’t tell her until he wanted to. Mauve stood on her feet and stretched her arms. She felt a bit stiff and a little sore.
There were also fading marks on her skin. She had noticed them while Mill helped her wash off. She walked closer to the mirror. A weird bite mark drew her attention. She hadn’t been able to clearly look at it while Mill helped her dress.
She sat down and leaned toward the mirror, but that didn’t help much; there was barely enough light. She stood up, picked up the light by the bed, and placed it on the dresser. The light gave her a better view, but the bite mark didn’t look all that different.
It had the shape of Jael’s fangs. She ran her fingers over it, and it didn’t hurt. She shook her head and pulled away from the mirror. She was likely just being paranoid and trying to find a reason why she was asleep for that long.
Jael didn’t seem too worried; he just looked happy that she was awake. Louis, however, had an odd stare in his eyes, and when he spoke about wanting to talk to Jael, she couldn’t help but feel like it might have been about her.
Mauve shook her head and returned to the bed. She was most likely overthinking this due to the lack of anything else to do. Just as she made to sit on the bed, a knock drew her attention to the door. She stood up.
She could just tell whoever it was to come in, but she wanted an excuse to move around. She walked to the door and pulled it open. Mill looked surprised to see her standing behind the open door.
Mauve laughed a little. "Why do you look so surprised?" she asked.
Mill bent her head immediately. "I didn’t expect you to open the door. Where is the Primus?" Mill asked as she walked in and saw Mauve was alone in the room.
"Louis came to get him not too long ago. I think it is something important."
"Oh," Mill said and walked further into the room. She immediately walked to where the empty dishes lay and picked them up.
"Yeah," Mauve said absentmindedly.
"Alright," Mill turned to face Mauve. "Would you need anything else, my lady? I can bring your favorite drink if you’d like."
Mauve had a surprised look on her face. "I’d like you to stop calling me that. It’s not funny, Mill. I already know what’s going on. You don’t have to go that far. Argh! Louis was here; I completely forgot about scolding him for putting you up to this."
"Lord Louis didn’t put me up to this."
Mauve narrowed her eyes. "You know what? Maybe I will go give him a piece of my mind. I think they should be in the study."
