Chapter 608: 608. Her Help
Mauve nodded as she looked at Jael’s face. It was hard to tell if she had said something she shouldn’t have.
"He told you about that?"
"Well, just the circumstances surrounding their deaths. He said he couldn’t remember the details," she responded.
"I see," Jael said and pulled back.
Mauve frowned a little. She didn’t know what she thought his reaction would be, but this wasn’t it. She wanted to divulge more but knew it would be a bad idea.
"Did you know about it?" She asked.
"Yeah," he said. "Just never heard anything about their deaths from him."
"Oh," Mauve didn’t know how to respond to this. It certainly explained why Louis was quick to leave as soon as Jael walked in.
"Do you remember anything about it?" She asked.
"Clearly," he replied. "He was a sobbing mess when Mother brought him home. He wouldn’t eat for days, and I literally had to drag him out of his room for him to finally start eating again. It was a pretty sad period in the household."
"Did you know his parents before their deaths?" She asked.
"As much as a child could have a relationship with an adult, so yes. Also, I and Louis were already friends before my parents took him in, so it was easy for us to be brothers."
"Sounds nice to know you both had each other at such a terrible time for Louis."
Jael looked lost for a second. "I suppose it was. Enough about this gloomy subject."
Mauve reluctantly agreed. She did want to ask about Kieran and Louis’s relationship, but she could tell the subject bothered Jael a little bit.
"Are you reading?" Jael asked.
Mauve’s eyes widened in horror as she remembered the book she was supposedly reading. What would Jael say when he saw the language of the book? Would he know what type of book it was, and what excuse could she give that she wouldn’t be caught telling a lie?
"Well," she started to say as she slowly turned to the table but stopped.
Jael followed her gaze and asked, "What?"
The book was gone. There was only one explanation: Louis must have taken it before he left, but how did he get it away from her without her noticing?
She shook her head. "Nothing. I was about to pick a book when Louis walked in."
"Oh," he replied.
"What about you? What have you been up to since the first meal?" Mauve leaned her backside onto the table for support as she faced Jael.
"Nothing serious," he said and stepped closer. "I simply had a simple conversation with Kieran."
"Oh," she replied, feeling herself shrink at his overwhelming presence. She knew exactly what he was doing, and the worst part was she wasn’t complaining.
"What was the conversation about?" She asked, wondering if he would give her details.
He stepped even closer, moving a lock of hair out of her face and placing it behind her ear. Now that he was this close she could clearly see the height difference between them and Jael towered her easily. She had to lean her head all the way back so she could see his face.
"Nothing you need to worry about. Just more options on ways we could try to defeat Palers."
"I see, did the conversation end on a good note?" She asked.
She could at least ask that, right? He seemed adamant about keeping her from incidents surrounding Palers, and to be honest, it stung a bit, but she was trying to be understanding.
"I don’t know," he replied, absentmindedly. "We are still struggling with a few things. Hopefully, we can figure it out soon."
Mauve beamed at him. That was more information than she had expected he would be willing to give out, and she was glad he was at least willing to give her a vague report.
"I truly hope you can figure it out soon and if there is any way I can help then let me know," she smiled at him as she offered. She didn’t expect anything from it but she wanted him to know.
Jael’s eyes rested on her lips immediately. "Good, ’cause this would surely help."
He lifted her so she was sitting on the desk, and before she could comprehend the situation, he brought his lips down on her.
Mauve felt his fangs grow in her mouth, and she squirmed as warmth crept from her tongue to her core. Never in a million years would she have guessed it took her only a second to get turned on.
Jael pulled away from her, his eyes glowing. He looked at her with purpose. At this point, his fangs were long enough to hinder comfortable speech.
Mauve’s chest rose and fell as she locked eyes with him. She waited as he held her gaze.
"I am thirsty," Jael said, his eyes flickering to her neck and then back to her face.
Mauve’s lips parted. Those words shouldn’t hold such weight, but they did. This was the first time he would tell her he wanted a drink so directly, and it made her so happy.
She was moving her neck to the side before she even realized. During the period, she was sick, Jael completely avoided drinking from her, and she couldn’t be hateful about it.
He sucked in air and brought his fangs down to her exposed neck. He gently ran his tongue over it, and Mauve felt a shock course through her body.
He gently pressed his fangs against her skin, and Mauve gripped him as it broke skin, a gasp escaping her lips.
It wasn’t excruciatingly painful, but unfortunately, she couldn’t have a different reaction to something piercing her skin even though she was used to it.
Mauve wrapped her legs around Jael’s waist as he fed. The rush of the blood leaving her body was exhilarating, and she found herself drowning in the pool of pleasure. Suddenly, he pulled out his fangs, and Mauve tried not to be disappointed.
"Was that enough?" She mumbled out as he licked her neck, not letting a single drop of blood spill.
"More than enough," he spoke clearly this time. It was obvious his fangs had shrunk. "I’ve missed the taste of your blood," he replied as he kept licking.
