Chapter 580. Symptoms Persist
Chapter 580: 580. Symptoms Persist
Mauve sat at the dinner table with Louis sitting across her and staring at her with an odd expression on his face.
She could tell he had a lot he wanted to say to her and she could tell it wasn’t good. Mauve swallowed and looked away, wondering what she may have done wrong.
But Louis wasn’t the only one staring at her. Everyone else at the table was. Danag was seated right next to her and even he had his attention on her.
"I heard you fell terribly ill," he was saying. "My apologies for not coming to get you, I have been terribly busy," Danag explained.
"Oh, it is fine. I am better now so you don’t have to worry about me," she said with a smile.
"I am glad. I wish you a speedy recovery."
"Thank you, Danag."
From the corner of her eyes, she could see Corbin watching her suspiciously.
She glanced at him and he looked away immediately, thinking nothing of it. She returned her attention to her food.
Her stomach grumbled again and from the glances that she pretended not to notice, it was loud enough to draw the vampires’ attention.
Jael snickered and she glared at him as she dug into her meal. She was starving, she was going to take that as a good sign.
Sure, it was embarrassing for her stomach to keep making unending screams but it simply meant her body was working again.
"Good to see your appetite has returned," Louis said as she stuffed her mouth.
She nodded, annoyed that he had chosen the exact moment her mouth was full to speak.
"I suppose it has," she said. Well, at least she tried to say but it came out all muffled.
Louis simply nodded and turned his attention away. Mauve squinted her eyes. If she didn’t think something was wrong before, she thought so now. Maybe, it was the look Jael threw at Louis.
She didn’t say anything about this. Rather, she at the rest her meal quietly. Surprisingly, she ate most of it, leaving only a tiny piece left.
Jael glanced at her plate and then her face but he didn’t comment. "Ready to go?" He asked instead.
She nodded and he stood to his feet. He stretched out his hand to her which she accepted and walked her out of the hall.
The walk to her room was filled with silence but it didn’t feel uncomfortable. She was glad Jael did not ask to carry her but he slowly let her walk beside him.
They got to the room and she climbed the bed, feeling a little lightheaded while her body felt heavy.
Jael must have noticed the change in her expression could be frowned upon and said. "Was it too much?"
"No..." she started to say.
"Don’t lie," he scolded. She could tell he was trying hard not to show his anger.
"Maybe I overdid it a little," she whispered. "I can feel the start of a headache.
She replied as she sat on the bed. It was taking everything for her to sit up. She winced a little and fought the urge to grab her head.
Jael wouldn’t let her hear the end of it if she thought it was that bad. He will be sure to scold her.
He sighed and sat next to her, pulling her in so she rested in him. "Please, don’t push yourself. When you are completely healed, you can go wherever you want, I won’t stop you."
"Promise?" She asked.
"Promise but for now don’t leave the room. Stay in bed. If you need anything I will get it for you or ask someone to do so. I didn’t stop you earlier because I didn’t want to be pushy but rest assured, I’ll be nothing but pushy henceforth. Only until you get better, please."
Mauve nodded her head, "I will do as you say."
"That’s what I like to hear. Jean should be here any moment to see you and check on your health as well as give you medicine. Please take it."
"I will even though it tastes awful, I will."
"Good girl," Jael said and she blushed.
He looked down at her lifted her chin and planted a sounding kiss on her lips. He pulled away before Mauve had any chance to process it.
She pouted and he said, "Jean is here. Unless you don’t mind an audience we can absolutely continue."
She pulled away from him immediately, "Why did you tell me?" She asked and glanced at the door.
"I just did," Jael replied.
A knock rang out and Jael gave the order for Jean to come in. He walked in cautiously looking around until his eyes rested on them sitting on the bed.
He stiffened a little before hopping forward. "Your grace," he bowed to Jael when he got close enough.
Jael smiled at him and turned to Mauve. "Her temperature is increasing again."
"It is?" Mauve and Jean simultaneously asked.
Mauve brought the back of her hand to her forehead and immediately realized Jael was right. She was starting to burn up.
Jean looked visibly stressed, he turned to Jael and said, "May I step forward?" He asked.
"Of course," Jael replied and stood up. Almost immediately a knock echoed. "I will be back."
Mauve frowned slightly but simply nodded as she watched him go. He opened the door and she caught sight of Kieran before he closed the door behind him.
She realized she didn’t notice him at the dining table. She wondered what they wanted to discuss and figured it was about Palers.
"How do you feel exactly?" Jean asked as he closed the gap between them. He placed his palm against her skin and he visibly winced before pulling away.
"The same, headache, cold and weakness. Also, the white patches are spreading again."
"Where? He asked, looking around her body.
"The one on my arm," she explained. He couldn’t see it because she wore a long-sleeved dress. "It increased and has also spread to my other arm."
Mauve saw it, the horrified look on Jean’s face before he masked it. "I will give you more of the drugs and please let me know immediately if anything changes."
