Chapter 578. Keep it from Her
Chapter 578: 578. Keep it from Her
Mauve pouted as Mill brought the cup closer. She felt her eyes water and fear crept into her heart.
"Don’t do that," Mill scolded. "You look terrified. I promise it will be over before you know it. Next thing you know you’re right as rain, all better. Don’t you want that?"
"You know I do," Mauve replied. She couldn’t believe Mill was asking her something like that.
"You will have to sit up," Mill said.
She was already moving to help Mauve to a sitting position even before she could counter it.
Her body felt heavy as Mill lifted her. Mauve winced, as her head shook, a shot of pain passed her body and it took her everything not to jerk.
Mill put her against the headboard and stacked pillows around her. Mauve held onto the pillow so she wouldn’t slide to the side as she had no energy to keep herself up.
Mauve grimaced at the change in position, her head felt heavy and she wanted nothing more than to go back to lying down.
"I know," Mill said, noticing her expression. "But this will only be until after you eat."
"Okay," Mauve whispered
Mill moved closer and gently supported Mauve, lifting her head a little. She brought the cup to her mouth and Mauve closed her eyes tightly.
She gulped the contents, drinking as much as she could before she could even register the taste.
"Mill pulled the empty cup away. "Now, that wasn’t so hard was it?"
Mauve shook her head, "It wasn’t but only because the drink didn’t taste awful," she mumbled.
It tasted more weird than bitter, she could handle weird as it didn’t leave her taste buds in shambles, just confused.
"One last cup, you think you can handle it?" Mill asked.
"Yeah," she replied and Mill repeated her actions.
"You did very well," she praised after Mauve emptied the cup.
Mauve smiled at her, the side of her lips was wet from trying to drink as much as she could and so was the front of her dress but that was irrelevant.
Next was the food which was already at the table. Not long after Jael left, the servants had brought it in. One glance and she could tell the food was more than she could finish.
"Ready?" Mill asked as she sat on the bed.
"Yeah," Mauve replied.
Mill was careful not to rush her and she didn’t scold Mauve when she had to take extra time to chew. Instead, she spoke softly to her and encouraged her.
Mauve only managed to eat a quarter of the food before she ran out of strength.
"Please, later." She cried when Mill tried to force her to eat more.
"Okay as you wish. She put the food aside and gave Mauve some water.
Mauve gulped it like her life depended on it, the taste of the water as it poured down her throat was very soothing and she almost did not want to stop drinking.
"Slow down," Mill cried. "You don’t want to choke yourself out."
"Can I get more?" She asked as Mill pulled the cup away.
"Of course but think slowly, please. We don’t want anything that might cause you to throw up."
Mauve nodded and drank the water slowly this time. She wasn’t as thirsty as she first was so there was no reason to not take her time.
She pulled her lips away from the cup and Mill took that as a hint that she had drunk enough water.
She quickly put the cup aside and turned her attention back to Mauve. She smiled at her, her eyes soft with affection.
Mauve sighed, her head hanging off to the side a little, it was uncomfortable but it was even more stressful to try to hold her head up.
She groaned, "Can I lie down now?"
"In a few minutes," Mill responded, taking her left hand. She adjusted Mauve’s head, making sure it didn’t tilt. "How did you feel?"
"Full," Mauve replied. "My stomach feels like it is about to explode."
"Must be all the water you drank," Mill replied.
"Yeah, you’re probably right." Mauve coughed a little, her chest sinking and rising as she coughed.
"Are you okay?" Mill panicked.
"It was just an itchy throat," she replied. "I am fine. Don’t worry about it."
"Okay," Mill said.
"How about now?" Mauve asked. She looked on the verge of tears.
Mill squeezed her palm, "A few more minutes."
Mauve sighed, "Do you think Jael will come back soon?"
"Would you like me to call him for you?" Mill asked.
"No, don’t bother him. I was just wondering." She sighed and moved her head, moving downwards a little. "I am tired, let me lie down please."
Mill looked torn for a bit and then she closed her eyes and said, "Okay, let’s do that."
"Thank you," Mauve replied with a bright smile.
Mill quickly helped her lie back in bed. She covered her with up to her chest and then adjusted the pillow under her head.
"Try to get some sleep."
Mauve nodded and yawned. It must be the food because she did feel very sleepy all of a sudden.
She closed her eyes and she didn’t even have any thoughts to think about, her mind was just blank. She was asleep before she knew it. It was a peaceful one, free of dreams.

Jael didn’t know how long he sat down at his desk but he suddenly stood up and made his way back to his room.
He opened the door and was immediately greeted with the soft sounds of Mauve snoring.
It sounded as though one of her nostrils was clogged but she was sleeping peacefully regardless of this.
"Sire," Mill said with a bow. Her voice was less than a whisper and the reason he had heard her was because he knew what she was going to say.
"She is asleep?" He asked.
Mill nodded, "About a while now. Eating made her really tired. I think she is going to sleep for a long time."
"I see," he glanced at her on the bed and he stared at her face.
Her hair shaped the sides of her small face. Her lashes rested on her shrunken cheeks. Their usual puffiness was lost.
Her lips were partly open as she slept.
Jael took in all of this before he turned around and started for the door. "Let me know when she wakes up."
"Of course," Mill said.
Jael walked out of the room and instead of going back to his study he walked the next set of stairs and stopped in front of Jean’s room.
This was the room the physician had used the last time he was here, he doubted they would change it and by the sensation he felt, they didn’t.
He knocked once and then knocked again. Jael heard something get knocked over before Jean’s voice said, "One moment, I will be right there."
It took almost a full two minutes for him to open the door. "Sorry," he cried as he pulled the door open. I was getting dre,.. Sire!" He cried. "What are you doing here?!"
"May I come in?"
"Of c-course," Jean replied and made a path for him to walk into the room.
Jael stepped in without hesitation. He looked around the room and saw a bath. However, he already knew this as Jean’s hair was dripping with water.
"I’d like a word," Jael said as the door closed.
"Yes, whatever it is."
"Keep this from Mauve," Jael said.
"What?" Jean asked, he looked a bit shocked.
"You heard me. I want you to not tell her what you think she has."
"I don’t think that’s positive, Sire," Jean tried to explain. "The princess already has an inkling and as her symptoms increase, it will become a certainty."
"However, you aren’t sure it might be the white disease and until you know for you, I don’t want you to tell her anything about it."
Jean’s shoulder slumped as he let out a sigh. "I don’t think we should keep this from her, she at least needs to know but of course, I might be wrong. I will be as you have asked."
"Thank you," Jael whispered.
Jean looked visibly taken aback by Jael’s gratitude. "I will make sure to do everything in my power to make sure she gets better."
He bent his head until it was practically impossible for him to go any lower. He held this position until Jael replied.
"I am counting on you."
Jean nodded and Jael left the room. There was one more place he needed to visit. He didn’t think this situation applied to it but with the way they were running out of options, there was no crime In trying out unorthodox things.
He wondered what Mauve would think when she found out he had tried to keep this from her for as long as he could, he didn’t think she would hate him.
