Chapter 576. Diagnosis

Chapter 576: 576. Diagnosis

"I will make some herbs for you, it should help with the throwing up and the headache, of course," Jean said after he checked her body.

"What’s wrong with me?" Mauve asked, her voice soft and it was obvious it took effort for her to speak.

"Just rest for now, I will discuss it with you when you have enough energy," he replied.

She nodded and closed her eyes, she looked drowsy. Jael wasn’t sure if it was because she was sleepy or just tired.

"Don’t fall asleep just yet. Make sure she eats first," Jean didn’t speak to anyone in particular.

"Okay," it was Mill who responded.

Jean slowly stood up from the chair next to Mauve’s bed and started to back away from her.

He grabbed his bag. It looked like it had more years than it needed to. He bowed his head as he looked in Jael’s direction.

"I will go get the herb ready?" He whispered with his head still bent.

Jael frowned slightly, the human still found him terrifying. The good news was, it wasn’t as bad as the first time. However, Jean’s fear was almost as if he had done something wrong.

"Okay," Jael responded.

"I will go with you. If you need anything, just ask me." Mill rushed out, moving to the human side as she led him out the door.

He turned his attention to Mauve and he could see she was looking at him. He crossed the room to where she lay and took over the physician’s seat.

She smiled at him, her eyes lacked the usual glow and he felt a little tug in his chest. He knew he wouldn’t be able to take it if something happened to her.

"Jean is here," she grinned.

"I know," he replied.

Jael heard a slight shuffle and turned to see Louis standing next to him just as Mauve cried out his name.

"Good to see you too," Louis said.

"You look like you rolled in mud," she laughed.

"You look like you rolled in chalk," he threw back.

She laughed some more. "I am glad you got back safely," she said.

"Did you really think I wouldn’t have made it back?"

"I may have entertained the idea," she replied.

Louis forced a gasp then said, "You shouldn’t speak. We will talk about this when you get better."

She nodded and turned her gaze to Jael. "Could you hold my hand?" She asked him.

He nodded and took her palm, the nearest one. Mauve flinched as their skin touched.

"Ugh, so cold."

Jael made to place her hand back but she stopped him.

"It’s fine," she said.

She closed her eyes and just concentrated on his hand around her palm. He squeezed lightly and she tried to squeeze back but there was no energy in her palm.

The sound of the door opening turned their attention to it. Mill walked in first and behind her was Jean.

She held a tray with a jug and a cup. Jael felt Mauve shiver a bit. He turned his gaze to her and she gave him a sad smile.

"You will be fine," he replied.

She smiled and nodded at him.

Mill placed the tray on the table and stood back. Jean walked closer but not close enough. He stopped at the foot of the bed.

"As soon as she takes that, make sure she eats immediately." Turning to Mauve Jean said, "Try to eat as much as you can. Don’t worry about throwing up. As soon as you take this," he pointed to the jug, "You won’t."

"Is it bitter?" She asked.

"No," Jean said without hesitation. "But it does have an odd taste. Bear it please."

Mauve nodded, she doubted it would be as awful tasting as the one Kieran made.

"Do you have any more questions?" He asked.

Mauve shook her head.

"Good, a word, Sire," Jean said to Jael as he turned his gaze away from Mauve.

Jael squinted his eyes, he didn’t like the sound of it. He had seen the expression on Jean’s face as soon as he laid eyes on Mauve and he could tell whatever the physician thought wasn’t good.

"Right now?" He asked.

"If that’s possible."

"I will be right back," Jael said as he slowly let go of Mauve’s hand.

"Don’t worry about me, take your time. Mill is here."

"Okay," he looked up at Mill and she bent her head.

"You can count on me," she said.

Jael stood up, it wasn’t as though he didn’t know Mill could take care of Mauve, he just didn’t want to leave her.

He walked out and Louis followed behind him with Jean behind them. Jael didn’t try to stop Louis. This was the one time he knew he wouldn’t mind having Louis around.

He walked to his study while they walked behind him. He couldn’t hear Louis’ footsteps but he could still yell.

The physician’s footsteps, however, were loud enough to wake the whole house. Maybe, Jean was just tired because his footsteps sounded loud and sloppy.

Jael pushed open the door to his study and Mauve’s scent hit him. She has spent enough time in here for her smell to linger.

He walked in and walked straight to the window, throwing it open. He then lit the candle on his desk as he knew the physician must be as blind as a bat.

"Jean," Jael said slowly as he took his seat. Something told him, he would need to be seated.

"Sire," the physician replied a little jittery.

"Thank you for making the journey here."

"No, no," Jean said, waving his hands hard. "Please, don’t thank me, I am getting paid for my services."

"Well then, what is this about?" Jael asked, his expression turning serious.

Jean’s back straightened immediately and he fiddled with his fingers. His aura indicated this was important. Jael’s forehead creased.

"I wanted to speak to you privately about the nature of the princess’s illness," he glanced at Louis.

"Don’t worry about him, you can speak. What is wrong with her?" He asked.

Jean looked visibly worried. He looked to Louis and then back to Jael. "I am afraid she has the White Disease."
