Chapter 575. Deteriorate
Chapter 575: 575. Deteriorate
Mauve let out a soft cough as she lay in bed with the covers high up to her chest. It had only been a few hours since she noticed the white patches were spreading even more and her condition had deteriorated this badly.
She couldn’t so much as roll out of bed and the headache was blinding. She was trying to go to sleep that would at least make the pain bearable but she couldn’t.
She groaned as she felt the wet rag on her forehead. She tried to move her head to shake it off but she couldn’t.
All she could do was slowly turn her head left to right and that wasn’t enough to get the wet rag off.
"Stay still, Mauve," Mill’s voice reached her ears. "Please."
She stopped moving, wincing as she felt the cloth move from her forehead to the side of her face and then her neck.
"This will make you feel better," Mill encouraged.
Unfortunately, Mauve didn’t think so, all she could feel was cold. It sank its teeth right into her, causing her to shiver some more.
"Why is Jael?" She asked as Mill took the rag away from her neck.
Mill dipped it into the bowl of water to cool it down. She squeezed it out and brought the rag back to Mauve’s face.
"He only stepped out for a couple of minutes, he will be right back."
"Okay," she mumbled, wincing at the cold rag. "Do you think I will be okay, Mill?"
"Of course," Mill replied without hesitation. "The physician will be here any minute now so don’t you even worry about it."
Mauve nodded and tried to smile but any extra movement increased her already terrible headache.
At least the cold rag was doing something and that was soothing her aching head. She closed her eyes and tried to not think about her current state.
It wasn’t easy to do. She felt terribly and she couldn’t help but think it would remain this way for a while and that she might never get better.
She opened her eyes and Mill’s face appeared. "Sleepy?"
"I wish," Mauve mumbled. "I want to sleep because my head feels like it is about to split open."
Her eyes watered at the end of her sentence, showing how much effort it took to speak for long.
Mill’s eyes darted around and Mauve could see her helplessness. "Does this help?" She placed the rag on Mauve’s forehead after changing and squeezing out the water.
"Kinda," Mauve mumbled. "Cold," she added.
"I know and I truly cannot wait for you to get better but this is a must. Your body is constantly burning up higher than it should be and Lord Kieran said to try to cool you down as much as possible so bear with this for now."
Mauve nodded at Mill’s words. What else could she do? Right now, all she could do was wait and pray her body didn’t give up on her.
She didn’t think it would do but when all she could do was lie down the only thing that went to places was her thoughts and it was often places it shouldn’t go.
"Would you like something to eat? Drink?"
"Water," Mauve replied. She had already thrown up twice already, she wasn’t about to do so a third time.
She didn’t even feel hungry and everything tasted bland to her. She would have bore it but throwing up after she struggled to eat was the cake.
"Water isn’t nearly enough," Mill cried. "Even if it is just a little soup."
"No," she mouthed.
Mill sighed, "As you wish."
Mauve heard sounds of movement and soon enough Mill was lifting the back of her head as she brought a cup to Mauve’s lips.
Mauve opened her mouth and the water poured in, she felt it go down her throat to her empty stomach.
She drank as much as she could before pulling her head away. Mill took the hint immediately and gently placed Mauve back in the bed before returning the cup.
"Thank you," Mauve mouthed.
Mill simply nodded before she took the rag from Mauve’s forehead. Mauve closed her eyes again. The third time’s the charm, right? Maybe this time, she would really be able to fall asleep.
Mauve started to drift off and she let herself float in the wind of sleep. She didn’t fight it, just let herself fall as deeply as she could.
******
Mauve heard a soft sound. No, it wasn’t the sound that woke her up, it was the feel of another skin on her body.
She winced, feeling herself getting pulled out of her sleep but refusing to let it happen. She groaned, not opening her eyes as she tried to return to sleep.
If she woke up, she would be greeted with pain and she wanted to avoid that for as long as she could. However, whoever was trying to wake her up wasn’t getting the hint.
The hand on her forehead was warm. Mauve frowned. The hand moved to her eyes and one of them was pried open. Mauve opened the second one immediately, startled.
The figure pulled back immediately, Mauve wasn’t awake enough to register his face.
"She is awake," Jael’s voice reached her ears.
Mauve winced, she was still delirious and unable to process the situation in front of her.
"Princess," a familiar voice said. "How are you?" He asked.
Mauve blinked as her eyes recognized Jean, he didn’t look any different from the last she saw him except for the clear fact that he was stressed out.
His eyes were shrunken as if he hadn’t gotten any sleep and she could pick up a funny smell. It wasn’t enough to irritate her nose.
"Jean," she called as she tried to sit up but he stopped her.
"Don’t move," he said. "Converse your energy, Lord knows you’ll need it."
Mauve looked around the room and saw Louis and Mill standing not more than three feet apart staring down at her.
Louis looked to be in terrible shape. There were stains on his face but it was hard to see from this distance. He had a dark look in his eyes and Mauve wondered what happened.
