Chapter 574. What She Feared

Chapter 574: 574. What She Feared

Mauve woke with a smile on her face. She had slept better than she thought she would. Her head still hurt and her temperature wasn’t getting any better but her heart was full.

She knew it had something to do with the conversation she had with Jael. She didn’t know what it meant but if she had to interpret in her own words, Jael practically told her he wasn’t going to get a mate.

The first thing she saw was Jael looking down at her. His worried face quickly changed to a blank one.

"Did you sleep well?" He asked.

"I think so," she mumbled and brought her hand to her eyes, rubbing it.

"Good, it took you so long to fall asleep last night," he whispered. "I am glad you could get some sleep." He gently caressed her head.

She remembered this even though she had rambled constantly, not once had he been irritated by this. Mauve couldn’t even recall how she had fallen asleep.

"I have to go," he whispered and that was when Mauve realized he was fully clothed. His hair was tied in a ponytail and he looked ready to leave.

"Where are you going?" She asked, trying to sit up but failed.

"Let me help you," he replied and lifted her. He propped her on the headboard and used the pillows to hold her in place.

Mauve chuckled at his setup. It definitely did its job. "Thank you," she mumbled.

"I will send Mill, I need to speak to a few vampires and deal with an issue but I will be sure to get back as soon as I can."

"No, take your time. I will be fine."

He gave a long and hard stare before he nodded and pulled away. Mauve smiled as she watched him go, lifting her hand as high as she could to wave at him.

The door closed and she was still smiling. The conversation from earlier rang in her ears. She hadn’t believed she had said such but she was glad she did.

"Someone’s in a happy mood," Mill said as she walked through the door of Mauve’s room.

"Mill," she cried.

"The Primus told me you’re awake."

Mauve nodded.

"He also told me you threw up during sleep time."

"Yeah," Mauve replied. "I not only ruined his carpet but I added the bed to it."

"Don’t worry about that, your health is more important. How do you feel?"

"Awful," Mauve said. "My head hurts worse than before." She winced as she explained her predicament.

"Really?" Mill asked with an exaggerated puzzled expression. "I would have sworn you were all better with the huge smile I saw across your face when I walked in."

Mauve smiled and tore her gaze away from Mill. "That has nothing to do with my illness."

"Oh, did something good happen?"

"You can say that," Mauve replied with a nod. Her hands laid on the piles of pillows Jael had used to pillage her to the headboard.

"Care to share?" Mill asked and Mauve blushed. "If it’s that sort of news you can keep it to yourself." The left corner of her lips lifted in a smirk.

"Mill, I am sick. It’s definitely not what you think."

"That has never stopped anybody."

Mauve looked at Mill in horror. She couldn’t believe the words coming out of the vampire’s mouth.

Mill laughed, "But that is a good thing. "You have been down in the dumps lately. It is great to see a smile on your lips."

"Thank you, Mill," she whispered, smiling at Mill.

"Are you ready to wash up?" Mill asked.

Mauve nodded. "Yeah."

"Alright, servants should be here soon with your bath water. I rushed here as the Primus didn’t want me to leave you all by yourself."

"You shouldn’t have, I can deal with being alone for a while."

"Well, I am here now. He also said I should ask you if there is anything you’d like to eat, the servants will prepare it."

Mauve shook her head, "I am fine with anything." After all, she would just throw it up but she didn’t add this part as Mill would most likely scold her.

"Are you sure? Mister Herbert will cook it specially for you. Just state your request."

"Thanks for the tempting offer but I am good. Food tastes a little bland recently as long as I can keep it in that’s all that matters."

Mill gave her an unimpressed expression but she didn’t push it. "It must not be fun to be sick," she whispered, her expression sympathetic.

"It’s not, I feel tired all the time, not to mention the pain."

"I really wish there was something I could do to help."

"You’re already doing enough and Jean will be here soon. I should be healed in no time." Mauve replied.

"Alright if you say so," Mill smiled at her. "Let us get you out of the barricade."

She partially climbed the bed and began to pull the pillows away from Mauve. Mauve simply watched her eyes following Mill’s movements.

After pulling the pillows away, she moved the covers and then started to take off Mauve’s clothes.

Mill gently lifted Mauve’s rear from the bed and then pulled up the dress. She moved backward to take the dress off Mauve’s torso when Mauve heard a soft gasp.

Mill’s hands stiffened around the dress, neither moving up nor down. Her gaze was locked on Mauve’s thighs.

Mauve could already tell something was terribly wrong with the way the vampire sounded.

Mauve looked down and she saw her abdomen wasn’t the only thing littered with white patches. It has spread to her thighs, covering almost half of it.

Mauve didn’t know how to describe the feeling she felt at the sight of them but she could akin it to horror.

It was a gut-wrenching feeling that twisted her stomach and made her gasp for breath.

Mill tried to continue as though she didn’t see anything but Mauve could see the panic in her eyes.

She couldn’t blame Mill, she felt the same way. She could wait for the physician to get here.

The entire ordeal was driving her a little nuts and every day it was starting to look closer to what she feared.
