Chapter 573. I Assure You
Chapter 573: 573. I Assure You
Mauve woke up suddenly. She could feel Jael move beside her but she didn’t have any time to explain what the issue was before, she jerked out of bed.
The force made her head spin and it made her even more nauseous but she was trying to save the bed. If she couldn’t save the carpet, at least she could spare the bed.
She couldn’t, she retched before she could adjust completely throwing up on the carpet and down the side of the bed.
"Oh," Mauve cried at the mess. She dropped back to the bed, her energy depleted. "I’m sorry," she tried to say as her vision blurred.
She could hear the sound of the sheets being moved and Jael scooped her out of the bed. She lay limp on his arms, her head and limbs shaking as he moved.
"Mauve," he called softly, she could clearly hear the panic in his voice.
She tried to open her mouth to say she was just tired but even that felt hard to do. She groaned in pain.
He swore and she held movements but she was already blacking out. Mauve tried to fight it, tried to stay away but she lost the fight.
The next time she opened her eyes, she was in her bed, shivering. Jael had wrapped her in a light cover and then wrapped his arms around her.
Her eyes were in line with his chest and she could see he and taken his shirt off.
"Jael," she called softly.
"You don’t have to force yourself to speak unless you want to let me know something is wrong," he said to her.
She already knew he was awake but this also meant he knew she was too.
"It is fine," she whispered. Her throat sounded hoarse and her mouth tasted awful but that was nothing new.
The headache was worse and the shivers were a nuisance but it wasn’t enough to hinder her speech, it just made her really tired.
"No, it’s not," he replied.
She tried to look up but it was too dark to see his face. She smiled and pulled her hand out of the spring roll wrap and touched his face.
He flinched as her fingers met his skin and Mauve let out a little gasp at how high her temperature was.
She quickly pulled her hand from his face and looked at it. "My temperature is higher," she mumbled.
"It is," he said. "I am glad you’re awake. You suddenly went quiet and limp. I feared the worst."
She tried to move closer, "Sorry, I scared you."
"Don’t apologize. Would you like something to eat? Perhaps something to replenish the energy you lost."
Mauve shook her head, "Not right now, I don’t think I will be able to keep anything down. I feel sick to my stomach. Maybe after sundown," she replied.
"Okay," Jael said. "Kieran checked on you. Unfortunately, there is nothing else he can do and we can only wait."
She nodded her head. "Have you been able to get any sleep?" She asked, looking at him. For some reason, she felt very chatty.
"A bit but don’t worry about it, I’ve gotten enough sleep to last me a year."
Mauve laughed, "That’s not possible. Sleeping more doesn’t mean you will be able to stay awake for longer."
"You will be surprised."
"Sorry you had your wake up suddenly because of me," she said, chuckling.
"It’s not a problem."
"Hmm," she whispered. "I am sure it is sort of an inconvenience."
"Nothing you do is an inconvenience," he replied.
"Even when I do this." She flicked his forehead and chuckled.
"Even then." He brought his face closer and kissed her forehead.
Mauve blushed and touched the spot his lips just left, obviously not expecting him to do that.
"Do you think I am a nuisance? I’m sure vampires don’t fall sick like this but I can’t seem to get better." She suddenly asked, her lower lip stuck out as she looked up at Jael.
"Only because I didn’t get you proper treatment. I am sure you will as soon as Jean gets here," he explained.
"But what if I take too long?" She whispered.
"I am a patient man," he said. "I can wait."
Mauve laughed, "I don’t think that’s true."
"For you," he kissed her forehead again, anything is possible.
Mauve blushed and looked away from him. "Jael can I ask you something? A favor, if you will," she whispered.
"I am listening," he said, pulling her even closer, his arms wrapping tighter around her.
"I didn’t want to talk about it but I can’t help but think about it," she pouted a little.
He frowned, "What’s the issue?" He asked with worry. "You can tell me anything."
"You won’t get mad?" She asked.
"Why would I get mad? I promise I won’t, no matter what it is."
"Okay," she replied. "I know you’ll have to pick a mate eventually but could it be anyone but Jevera, I don’t think my heart could take it. I know I shouldn’t tell you who to choose but I want to say that..."
Jael’s gaze darkened. "What are you talking about?" He interrupted.
"That you shouldn’t pick Jevera when picking a mate," she repeated.
"Who told you that?" He asked.
"Lord Levaton did inform me when I first got here and Louis confirmed it at the party. Besides, I keep hearing the Lords ask you about it."
"Get some sleep," Jael said, his voice held anger.
"Are you angry?" Mauve asked, her eyes watered a little. Maybe, should have held her tongue.
"No," he sighed. "I shouldn’t have said that. I am sorry. I just got really angry but not at you, never at you. Don’t listen to them," he said. "You don’t have to worry about Jevera or anyone."
Mauve’s eyes widened a bit and she smiled. "Okay, but don’t you have to pick a mate?" She asked.
"I don’t have to do anything I don’t want to and I assure you you’ll never have to worry about anyone else."
