Chapter 566. No appetite
Chapter 566: 566. No appetite
Mauve opened her eyes and she could immediately tell she had woken up late. Maybe, it was the fact that she was along in her bed, or the open windows but as as soon as she opened her eyes, she knew.
She didn’t bother trying to sit up. She still felt awful, the only the different was, the chills and shivering had stopped. However, her temperature was still high and her head hurt a little.
She had not been able to fall asleep on time during the day. The headache kept her up but it started to feel better after a while and she figured the herbs Kieran had given her might have had something to do with why she had felt slightly better.
Unfortunately, the headache was back. She didn’t want have to drink that terrible green juice but she knew she wouldn’t be able to bear the headache for much longer.
She heard the turn of the handle and the door opened. She could see him quietly walk in as though he didn’t want to wake her up.
"You’re awake," he said as he slipped through the open door.
"Yes, Mauve said and tried to raise her head but gave up immediately.
He closed the door behind himself, less cautious this time and rushed to her side. "How do you feel?" He was asking already even before he got to the bed.
His hand touched her forehead and Jael grimaced. "You’re still hot."
Mauve nodded, "I feel the same and the headache is back," she groaned and rolled to her side. "My head feels awful."
Her throat suddenly felt dry and Mauve winced. She didn’t like the fact that it felt like she was getting progressively worse.
He cussed. "Would you like something to eat?"
"Water," she called out. Her voice cracked as she spoke.
"Of course, anything else?" He asked.
"No," she mumbled. "I just feel really thirsty. It’s the kind of thirst that makes me want to claw out my throat."
"No clawing out your throat," he replied with a soft look in his eyes. "A servant should be hear soon with food and enough water."
"Okay," Mauve responded.
"Kieran also advised you drink some of the concoction."
Mauve looked at Jael with betrayal in her eyes.
"I know, I know but so far it’s the only thing we have got and it did make you feel better last time. Even if it will only be a temporary relief, it’s better than nothing.
"I suppose you’re right," she whispered but her expression don’t change.
"I already sent for Jean as soon as it was sunset. I sent all my personal guards and Louis offered to accompany them."
"Louis?" She asked with shock.
"Yeah." Jael didn’t look too happy about this. "His presence will be helpful. I am sure of it."
Mauve nodded, making a mental note to thank Louis when they get back. She prayed for their safety and hoped they didn’t run into any Palers.
"Do you want to try to sit up?"
He asked.
"No," Mauve said without any hesitation. "I don’t want to do that."
Jael gave her a stern look but Mauve didn’t budge.
"Your food will be here soon, you can’t lie down and eat."
Mauve groaned, "Fine," she said slowly. "Please help me up."
"Of course," Jael said and carefully lifted her to a sitting position. She felt how weak she was as he help her. She didn’t even have any strength to hold her own weight.
Jael sat on the bed and rested her body on him. Mauve sighed even though all she had just was lie there while Jael moved her, it still felt exhausting.
"Your body is so warm," Jael commented. "Even through my shirt I can feel just how hot you are."
"Yeah," Mauve replied, absentmindedly.
A knock echoed in the room and Jael gave the order for them to come in. The door opened and a servant walked in, behind them was Mill.
They simultaneously bowed at Jael before walking further into the room. The servant placed the tray on the table and left while Mill walked closer to the bed.
Mauve tried to smile at her but she doubted that was what it looked like. "I heard you’re sick again," she said, her voice soft.
"I suppose," Mauve said. Jael’s arms tightened around her as she began to slip downwards.
"What exactly is wrong?" She asked. Her voice held concern, her face equally worried too.
"Just a slight headache and high temperature. Jael could you get me the water, please."
Jael stretched to get it but Mill moved faster. She poured the water into the cup and handed it to Jael.
"Thank you," Mauve said as she accepted the water.
"That’s not enough to keep you bedridden. It must be serious."
"I am not bedridden. I am just a little tired. I will be fine, Jael already sent for physician so I should get treatment soon enough. You don’t have to look so worried about me."
"Okay. Sire," Mill said to Jael. "Would you mind if I help her eat?"
"Don’t worry about that," Jael said his first words to Mill. "I will take care of it. Just bring some water in a bowl and a piece of rag. Her temperature is high."
"Okay," she nodded and bowed again, taking the hint to leave.
"Ready?" Jael asked her as the door closed.
"No," she mumbled.
"You have to eat," he insisted.
"I know," she whispered but for some reason, she didn’t want to. "I don’t think I have an appetite."
"You can’t stay without food, just a little."
She was surprised he didn’t tease about it so she simply said, "I guess I could try to eat a little."
"Not a little, I am worried if got eat less and less you’ll get even weaker and you need your strength."
"I know," Mauve replied. "I can’t promise but I’ll try to eat as much as I can."
