Chapter 565. Get a physician
Chapter 565: 565. Get a physician
Kieran looked down at Mauve with a clearly worried expression on his face. His brows furrowed as he concentrated.
Mauve tried to keep her gaze on his face but her vision kept failing her, it didn’t help that the room wasn’t bright enough. She winced, the pain from the headache caused her to close her eyes.
"What do you suggest?" Jael asked.
"I don’t know," Kieran said. "She already drank the herbs, she should be better. Getting a fever again barely a day later is very concerning."
Mauve listened to Kieran’s voice. She could clearly hear his concern. Her shoulders shook again. The chills were so uncomfortable.
He walked closer to the bed and squatted, his face directly aligned with hers. He kept enough distance between them, not invading her personal space.
He stared hard, she wondered what he was looking for. He carefully placed the back of his palm on her forehead and Mauve shook.
The cold of his hand was a bit startling and she could swear it made her cold worse. He pulled his hand away almost immediately.
"You will have to get a Physician," Kieran said and slowly stood to his feet.
"I know, I already thought of that," Jael replied, sighing softly. "I plan to get Jean as soon as it is nighttime. The only problem is he will take a couple of nights to get here."
"Not to mention the Palers," Kieran added.
"Yeah," Jael said and touched his head. "They are not rampant in Vampire Regions but according to Mack the journey through Nolands had been a little too much to handle. It will be a hassle to send them back out again."
"I think we should see how I feel by..." Mauve coughed and coughed again.
Jael rushed to her side, he touched her and she sighed, feeling exhausted. He sat on the bed and Mauve adjusted so her head would rest on his leg.
Mauve looked up at Jael and she could tell that whatever protest she had against getting the physician, he wasn’t going to listen.
He stroked her hair and she smiled. "I am getting Jean," he said.
Mauve simply nodded. She would have said something but she was worried it might trigger a cough and she was yet to recover from the first one.
It had felt like her chest wanted to combust and it still hurt from the force of the cough. The back of her throat was itchy but not enough to make her cough again.
"I could make more of the herbs," Kieran offered.
Mauve grimaced. The thought of drinking the juice made her want to throw up. She would almost rather deal with the headache and cold.
"I think that would be best, hopefully. It will help the fever calm down," Jael replied on her behalf.
"It tastes awful," she managed to say. She didn’t want to drink it.
"I know," Jael said.
"I apologize but we can’t leave you like this. At least the herbs will help with the symptoms. The headache and the increase in temperature. I don’t think you’d want to stay in bed the whole time until the physician gets here."
Mauve shook her head. "I will drink it," she said. Her face contorted and looked on the verge of tears.
"Okay? Don’t force yourself though. If you think it makes you feel worse. Don’t drink more of it."
"I don’t think it does," she replied. "It’s the taste I don’t like."
"I know, I could tell it tasted awful. If I could make it taste remotely better I would but I am afraid that would affect its potency," Kieran explained.
Mauve nodded, "I know." At least he had been nice enough to let her know that.
He gave her a small smile. "How do you feel? Aside from your head, is there pain anywhere else?" Kieran asked.
Mauve shook her head, "Nope, just the cold."
"Get some rest, hopefully, you can be able to get some sleep. I will send a servant with the herbs when it is ready. Thankfully, I had gotten enough to make another batch."
Mauve didn’t like the sound of that even taking a sip was a hassle. The batch sounded like Kieran was about to make a jug full of this green juice.
"Thank you," she whispered.
Kieran smiled, his pearly white teeth were all she could concentrate on.
"Get better. That’s how to show me you’re grateful. Besides, I haven’t done anything to deserve your thanks. You’re still as sick as when you asked for my help." He turned to Jael, "If something changes do let me know, I will try to see what I can find."
Jael nodded and Mauve watched Kieran bow before he headed to the door. The sound of it locking in place sounded louder in her head.
Jael caressed the top of her head. She shivered but this time it wasn’t from the cold.
He sighed, "I should have sent for Jean last night. At least by now, he would have less time to get here."
She pulled her hand from under the covers and grabbed his free hand. "I think I can wait a couple of days. Besides, I still think we will be calling him for nothing."
"It will be better if it is for nothing than you get worse and we don’t get him."
"I suppose you’re right," she whispered.
"It’s not a burden and you don’t have to worry about the guards I’ll send out. They will be able to hold their own against the Palers. I would have gone myself but I don’t want to leave you."
"I don’t want you to leave me either," she replied immediately.
He touched her cheeks, Jael was the one who flinched, "I won’t," he said.
He didn’t pull his hand away and Mauve was glad he didn’t. "After taking the herbs, try to get some sleep, okay?"
Mauve nodded. She still felt cold but for some reason, she felt a little better on Jael’s arms.
